    I have an idea. If it’s a better tire, why not standardize it for everyone else? It would make sense to have the option to have bragging rights that every team is using YOUR tires for the season because they want to use your better tires. And it incentivizes other teams to make an even better tire and you get more exciting racing year after year with teams competing for having the “tire of the year”.

    • @randal3122

      because they have to have rules to keep teams from spending more and more money to gain an advantage. believe it or not, tighter rules that keep the cars more comparable keeps costs down and racing better

    The tire doping thing has always been a weird issue for me. Like what happens if you run over an oil puddle or spray brake clean on the birdcage and accidentally hit the tire. The reports are always so vague, like “not consistent with original analog” or something. Never go into detail on what compounds are in play. UV exposure has been proven to break down the compounds and give false positives. I say let tire companies loose and do whatever. It’s cheaper than the trick suspension crap that everyone is rabbit holing these days.

      Best way to look at it is that if you just roll through it it will only be on the outside if it’s soaked it will be deeper

    • @Hydrazine1000
      @Hydrazine1000 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Someone with an MSc in chemistry and specialized in organic chemistry will be better at explaining this than I am, but the trick to tire compound doping depends on the ability of the particular chemical to be absorbed by the rubber.
      Water will not diffuse into rubber. Likewise, oil will not diffuse into rubber. Brake clean tends to be much more volatile (shorter hydrocarbon chains compared to oil) and that could diffuse into rubber. But then you still need enough contact time and enough applied volume to actually let it penetrate the rubber. Then again, brake clean might actually be _too_ volatile to remain captured by the rubber. So it's not like just about any liquid used at a race track can dope the tires.
      But either way, just cutting rubber samples on 12 o' clock and, say, 6 o' clock, both from the inside and outside of the tire track, will rule out any accidental contamination.
      (Just for some better understanding: many decades ago studded ice and snow tires for rally cars had such effective weakening agents in them that, at room temperature, a hard press with a thumb or finger would leave a fingerprint pressed into the rubber! The FIA banned use of those weakening agents because those compound were pretty seriously carcinogenic.)

    Great segment on tire soaking Justin. Not sure about the dirt scene, but it's been around in pavement racing for decades. There are a number of home recipes besides the commercial stuff, as well as how it's applied. In my pavement late-model days we had a rotisserie setup that rolled the tire in a pan for a set period of time to either bring back a used tire or make a killer qualifying set! Others just rubbed it on the surface, or used diapers soaked and then shrink wrapped onto the outside. Some tracks had mechanical sniffers that detected chemicals or, believe it or not, had trained dogs to check legality. Nowadays, in some classes tires are locked up between nights and limited allotments for the season are the norm. As for Roth, they may have felt they could get away with it being a new tire this season.

      😅I remember the "rotisserie" method of soaking tires was my job as a kid in the late 70's at my old mans garage. From soaking our special re-caps on hobby stocks to our Good Year and McCreary slicks on super stocks.

      I've used the soaked papertowel wrapped around with ceran wrap to seal it on the tire with a toluene and diesel mix (was a long time ago, don't remember the ratio) and it worked like a charm to bring back a set of old sport tires for a track day.
      I knew the method from rc car racing back in the day, where tire soaking in traction compounds are a must for competition wherever allowed.

      @jamietwigg5152 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toluene is just a carrier for the transmission fluid, it by itself will cause the natural oils in the tire to dissipate drying the tire out and actually making it harder.
      Toluene and Zylene are used as curing agents, one fast, one slow.
      it matters which you use when.
      Transmission fluid can be substituted with WD 40 and diesel

    ATP Automotive AT-205 with some automatic transmission fluid mixed in works nice. (not that I would know) Certain series techs/officials, will always cut the samples from the same place on the tire, usually from the outside edge, sometimes from the inside edge. So, if you wanted to gamble, treat the center of the tire and leave the edges alone, might just get past the lab test. (not that I would know either)... I wish dirt racing would go back to the way things were back in the 80's & 90's, not as expensive, not as technical with the rules and the cars, wide open run what ya brung!

    Also it's kind of crazy we only have 4 race weekends left until their first elimination "cutoff" and so far their top 15 still has 6 WoO full timers. If we keep getting unlucky weather I wonder if they would disqualify those guys to get their full timers in that cutoff (Hughes, Alberson, Smith, Bruening, Robinson, Roberson would all be cut out)

  • @SouthJerseyBaitReviews
    @SouthJerseyBaitReviews ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is kinda funny cause this type of deal is very common in RC car racing some places don't allow it while some don't care but. You defitnely do notice a difference in performance of the tire at the places that allowed it. It usually gave more grip I wouldn't say the lifespan though ever improved on the tires we applied it to. An actually made the rubber usually softer so they tend to get worn faster from what I noticed lol.

    • @962RACER
      @962RACER ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly, and the stuff mostly smells like a strong solvent with a bubble gum smell. it definitely wears faster as the rubber is softened, and when you wipe the tire a bit after soaking, a rag or paper towel visibly stains with a bit of dissolved rubber if it's been on long enough. in my case when i first started using it for 1/10 touring cars on carpet it was too much grip and it would roll even with a harder suspension etc lol, so i started soaking less or doing half the tire.

    Justin! Awesome video once again my friend! Appreciate your work! Id like to upload a video about tire prep and the ins and out to send it your way.... There is alot to know! For me the most condemning piece of evidence is the end of the race - the speed he had and the line he was able to lay down ( late in the race ) definitely makes me feel there was some tire tampering going on.... Thats exactly what you want a preped tire to do and how that race went is exactly how you get a preped tire to fire off.... Couple heat cycles - late into the race - the harder the tire will bite.... I would have like to have seen his tires after the races - there is a good chance there would have been visual indications of how much and how long ago the tire was prepared - i would like to know why they chose him for a tire test? Maybe someone seen something SUS.... Or maybe it was actually a random chance .... It is possible for a tire to never see prep and still pop dirty - storage conditions can play an effect..... These chemicals are very potent - you never get rid of the vapors - i have a karting trailer that hasnt had anything in it for almost 2 years - you open the door and you instantly smell the prep.... I store extra tires in a black trash bag when not on a car ( 2 to a bag ) i have to make sure ( non prep ) and ( prepped ) tires don't end up in the same bag - in the right conditions the non prepped tire can become contaminated and will fail and core sample test..... ( But ) - it is also very obvious the difference between a prepped ( worked tire ) and a tire that just soaked up some contaminants.... Prepping isnt something you just rub on and go - it takes cycles and stages and controled conditions - its a extremely controlled ( Art ) a good preper will start a week or more in advance... The way those tires hit - screem prep. Just my opinion

      Also - undetectable means - unidentifiable..... There is no getting around the manipulation of the tire structure and chemical make up - like you said -but there are chemicals you can use to mask and disguise the chemicals..... Some of the older technology may have struggled getting proper Readings but that's not the case anymore.... Undetectable simply means the chemicals will come back inconclusive or unidentifiable....

    If anyone has ever been to a dirt circle track go-kart race then you know what preping is, we can take a tire that punches around 65 with a deromitor & add a couple of coats of prep & within 45 minutes have that same tire soften up to around 40 & this has been going on in karting for thepast 10 years we have been prepping, also we have whats called a hot box to where we put the tires into a box woth prep in the bottoms & the tires are on a rotisserie with a heat bar to keep the tire at a high temperature so thd prep will soak into the tires. So the late model tire drama is about 10 years behind what we have been doing in karting, & my question was why are these dirt & drag racers are so slow on there tire prepping

    Everyone is treating tires period, if you aren't cheating you aren't trying. If you read the rules and just showed up with the car to spec stock rules you'll probably not make the A feature. I'm assuming they went too soft and that's why they got caught. I'd think you'd want the RR to be harder on sprints and LM for the features because you see the guys with the super softs go ballistic for 15 laps and then fade or blow the RR off the rim. Glad the officials are least making an attempt to check tires. Doing what rules officials SHOULD do at every track.

Are Hoosier having any problems with supply? I guess the answers will come at the appeal. Just a shame for one of the truly nice guys of the sport to be caught up in this mess. I hope you find your groove again soon J Mac ❤

    I actually looked up the tire dope to see how much it would cost for a team to have a bunch of it lying around. It's honestly VERY cheap. Like I was shocked how cheap it is to buy the exact can shown in the video. Wouldn't surprise me to find out a lot of guys run doped tires... That being said I'm not saying it's definitely a thing, just saying it wouldn't surprise me

    Wondering if regrooving tires to a different tread pattern is legal? I know in rallying teams will legally regroove to sharpen the edges of the tread blocks or remove tread blocks to open a tire up to allow mud to clear and allow the tire to dirt deeper for better grip.

      @@somethinburnin In the mid 80's I crewed for a dirt late model. My main job during the week was to take care of the qualifying and race tires. Besides keeping the grooves clean and sharp I had special patterns for different track conditions. We never used the tire softener but I remember going to another racers garage with the driver and in the corner was a single workbench with a gear reduction setup that had a wide 5 hub mounted to the large gear with a 5 gallon can of Balls softener not hidden very well on the shelf under the bench.

    So Hoosier American racer etc. have tried to boogey man tire Chemicals for years now claiming makes tires blowout randomly etc. and the simple fact is that’s not true. If you can read the instructions on the container and follow them especially with stuff like hot lap etc. it can help get more life outta the tire like not getting too hard after a few heat cycles it can bring back a set of older tires that may have been sitting out and got harder over time. What happens to those places when tires last longer ? They don’t sell as many am I the only one that notices these tires don’t last like they used to back in the day ? No different that Hoosier claiming grooving tires is unsafe now and pushing sanctioning bodies to outlaw tire grooving. The worst thing that’s gonna happen if you do it wrong is your gonna over soften a set of tires and lock yourself down. And the chemicals being unsafe blah blah yea they aren’t safe but so is oil and brake fluid , tranny fluid, fuel etc. and guess what ? Most of those chemicals are a mixture of all of those so unless your drinking it it’s no different than dealing with the other chemicals that involve race car maintenance

  • @gatorage850
    @gatorage850 ปีที่แล้ว

    IMO if they are saving money it should not be a rule!!!
    I can tell you in "RC" racing with no real tire rule. The clay on the track gets in the tire, making it hard and brittle (you lose both grip and tire life) many of the top racers will wash the tire with a cleaner (at the end of every run) to get the clay out the tire (simple green works well for this) but here the crazy thing - one of the best ways to recondition the tire to get more grip and last longer is WD-40 (best to lightly brush it on and let it sit 15min before next run - in the sun if you can).

    Woo brought this cheating on themselves and its all there fault if they didnt implement gambling into racing then teams would most likely not cheat. Dash draws have no place in racing but Woo does it because over 50% of there races are won from the front row and its why they have dash draws to mix up who wins creating a false narrative that there is parody in there sport and its a false sense of competition. You think its right for a guy to be fast time and win his heat and go on to draw the 8 pill and be buried in the field?I think its why people cheat in this crappy era of winged racing were in, there is no rivalries which stinks and lack of innovation its just every driver going to the sprint car walmart buying there parts and of course being forced to buy the WRG hoosier tire that benefits only WRG and nobody else and they race and talent does not have a huge input anymore instead its there starting spots that are also determined by Woo how nice for Woo that they are constantly controlling the narrative. With no end to this madness in the near future teams are going to cheat to find any edge they can cause remember there is no innovation those days are over. The real problem is Woo and there lust for control over every aspect of winged racing, why not make smaller rear tires like what they had 20 years ago and make smaller wings that dont support those larger tires locking the cars down to the track? It would put driver in the car again and talent would matter and any ole swinging dick starting on the front row wont win over half the races anymore and the cheating would stop because there would be seperation, there is none and its why its not pleasent to be a controlled sheep like the Woo boys are. If WRG was is big as they think they are then they would not feel inferior and when Geo won that 50k at the lakeside speedway they would have introduced him when he came out the friday following the tuesday he won by saying " Coming off the 50k to win race earlier this week are rookie of the year Geo picked up was impressive, i mean something some sort of acknowlegement you know, but Woo feels a threat of some sort over two guys putting on a different series getting crowds and getting car counts during the week i might add that they cant bare to mention it or bring any light to it at all for a reason. I say its because Woo is being shown that two guys drinking a beer can sit down and the next day form a sprint car series and that there not as important as they think they are there threatened by it folks believe it. Because there sure petty about it. Here is a boring shitty stat for you to look up if you dont believe.... every single WOO heat race this year so far has been won off the front row. They put fast guys on the front row asking them not to race cause they dont have to then there asked to get in line for Woo to tell them where there going to start. Bahhhh bahhhhh sheep do what your told for 10grand to win that we paid back in 1982 to win and there the premier series😂😂😂😂😂 #HighLimit #KyleLarson #BradSweet
