Gotta applaud the sheer commitment to not only buying but probably spending hours tracking down a shirt with the same carpet pattern as the the Overlook hotel itself!
The size of the thing would have to be even more dumptruck to accommodate Instax Square so I’m not sure they’d do something like that (also, framing would be brutal), but who knows what Nons might do next!!
Thanks for introducing this marvel I had no idea that it existed. And congrats for the film festival I think the black and white video is your best so far ! Keep your energy and great work !
@@InAnInstant I'm currently working on a horror movie that will be shot in super 8. It's gonna take a long time to get there. So, everything new Super 8 excites me to the MAX. Everything Polaroid too, ofc. Thanks for giving me that addiction, btw. It's so much fun. :)
I got one a few weeks ago, and yea the viewfinder especially with the format extender is my biggest issue, I’ll gladly purchase a square or wide version if they ever release one.
I got one of these when they had the Kickstarter. I keep trying it, but continue to fail to fall in love with it. Right now I have a Pentax Takumar 28mm on it, which is insanely wide. Doesn't fix what's wrong with the camera, though.
I bought the Mark II for a little more than 250 dollars in the Kickstarter campaign (don't remember the exact amount) and it's mad fun if you can overcome the vignette. I find that I love the look of the photos taken with my 50mm f1.4 Pre Ai in dark environments with a lit subject in the center. Amazing product and, if you have the money and want some fun, absolutely buy it. I know the price probably doesn't make any sense but this camera makes no sense at all in any way possible and it's still my favorite.
Yaay. I've been waiting for this one for a long time. It did not dissapoint. I'm honestly okay with the vignetting for portraits. Your examples looked very crisp. But! You had a tasty selection of other SLRs on there. What were they? Lastly, I am huge fan of Minolta glass. Did you take any photos with those lenses? Ok long comment over. Thanks Ben!
Great review, Ben! I love to see that on-location goodness. The instax wide format could really use some more camera options, though, wouldn't you agree?
So glad you dug the vid!! And yes agreed about Instax Wide, I wonder if Nons will ever make a Wide camera. Certainly could not be an even remotely similar design to this one (if you think the vignette is bad on these, imagine on wide lol)
Just finished my first pack of instax mini with this, has been loads of fun! A nice change from digital mirrorless cameras. Have a MIR-26B on the way that I cannot wait to try with it
Instax Mini’s format is close to 645. I think they should have at least made an attempt to make it in those medium format 645 mounts. That would also eliminate the need for an extender, and just use glass that matches the film size.
I shot Instax mini single-shots in the Polaroid holder on a Mamiya 645 and the image is a little smaller though beautiful!! There are Mamiya 645 to EF adapter available.
BIG FOR BUSINESS BENJAMIN!!!! I finally got to use one of these! I use the NONS SL42 instax mini SLR in my latest youtube short. Watch if you're into having fun & you have 60 seconds to spare.
I thought about pledging for this brick on Kickstarter, the second version. But saw some reviews and decided not to. Your review basically confirmed my concerns. And for that kind of money I would rather get a Mint TL70.
They should make a 3rd version that shoots two separate images side by side on the same instax sheet. That would fix the vignetting and the viewfinder coverage problem. I have never seen a product do that so it would also be completely unique.
I find it interesting that "Kodak's Instant Film" has outlasted the original Polaroid company. As I recall, Kodak and Fuji worked on "the other instant picture film" before releasing it to their respective markets. Polaroid sued Kodak Instant Film out of existence, but allowed Fuji to "sell only in Japan." Polaroid is history, and Fuji Instax shows what might have been if Polaroid and Kodak came to an agreement. Could The Ghost of Rochester bring Kodak Instant Film back? Stranger things have happened; such as this Fuji Instax Mini SLR camera.
@@InAnInstant what about the the instantkon RF70 ? i of course never held one in hand but it looks reasonably sized for a camera that produces instax wide. thats is a sweet camera actually wish that offered interchangeable lenses
Just came across this camera. If you use an M645 to EF lens adapter direct to the body would you eliminate a lot of the vignetting? Has anyone tried medium format lenses adapted to this?
one of my favorite lenses is my FD 7.5mm, i’m curious what pictures it’d create if mounted on this camera, especially since on 35mm it already produces a 180 degree circle!
Try a tilt shift / shift lens in the EF mount? They have a much larger image circle than a typical 35mm lens. Unless the shutter size of the camera itself is the bottleneck.
I appreciate their efforts, but they really should have made one with common medium format mounts. That vignetting surely can look cool in some situations such as 4:51 and especially when it blends well like at 7:09, but for normal and sharp photos it's just too much for my taste
For sure Simone; the vignette is ever-present, if you use a lens with giant elements or a larger image circle it wouldn’t be as severe, but very few people would be doing that with this camera.
LOMO and Lo Fi have made Instax backs for medium and large format cameras. There are more options coming online now. Right now, I am waiting for the best, least hassle back. I'd like one for the 600SE Polaroid or the Mamiya Universal. I'd like one that takes the wide film.
Been wanting some nice instax mini shots....but this isn't it for me. The price isn't the issue, its the stupidly heavy vignette, which I understand why it happens. This just isn't it though. Sad too, because I love this idea, make my existing kit work, on a SLR body? Sign me up! But for all the messing around you have to do for it to "just work" I would rather go with the mint TL-70 for the price point. Both cameras present similar issues anyhow, so why not go with one I don't have to fiddle with as much and looks way nicer? I think after sitting on the sidelines it is time to get a good ole' lomography glass. Small and easy to handle, gives good results and is in a very comfy price range, and has little to no hassle to pick up and use for even the novice photograpther(so I can actually hand it off to a friend without having to explain anything). Got to give it to nons for trying though. If anyone finds a good lens that is able to have minimal vignettes for cheap, I may consider it. But for now, I'll go with other options. Beautiful location too. I have got to visit Colorado.
Many 35mm lenses allow you to lock the aperture lever so that you won't need a neutral density filter. Just lock the aperture down and set it to the desired size.
I have one of those. Shot about 3 or 4 packs and put it back in the box. There is an insufficient volume of profanities to describe it. And the mistaken of buying it?
