    My coach got me squeezing the club with the bottom two fingers to start the backswing, this picks the club up and stops any inside motion. Lots of great points in the video, thanks.

    ive had several lessons this summer and the pro has emphasised this club head outside hands move, what is problematic to many 'average' mid handicap/hi handicap golfers is after the initial takeaway the club head appears 'shut' or closed but this is an illusion, its still square to the target line, the vast majority of the worlds greatest players past and present were seeking to do this move, some did it intuitively, yes there were some that pulled it inside quickly but they had to make compensations from then on the keep the club on plane, and their swings relied a lot on pure timing, the pros want to keep the club face square and stable throughout the swing and use trunk rotation to square the clubhead and this approach is a major key to doing that, since i started doing this earlier in the year my ball striking has improved greatly, i recently hit my best gross score (83) and have taken my handicap from 29 to 15 in six months, it works!! thanks and cheers

    Had a lesson today with this being the main swing thought, that and practicing hitting fades to help neutralise my incredibly in to out path. I was the opposite, i'd roll the hands in on the backswing but it would get stuck behind me therefore further inside to out and it would cause me to have the shanks/push-fades. Hitting fades with a 5 iron during a warmup will become a drill i do to help me feel more steep and feel like i'm swinging left. Though if it turns out hitting a little fade is more consistent I may stick with it.

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it does take a bit of practice feeling comfortable. This is something I've had to battle with also. Sounds like a good drill to practice. Definitely, if the fade works for you then stick with it. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers

    Used to do this well and for a whole 12 months I didn't realize I was pulling the head inside, therefore having a nasty slice and rolling my hands. I realized a few days ago this was the issue, but not being a swing expert, I wasn't sure. Your video confirmed for me and is a great explanation of the results of taking away right and wrong. Thanks!!

    I found if I feel I am starting the takeaway with the clubhead and let the weight of the club set the top of the backswing, I get a good downswing by turning my body to the target. I used to manipulate my wrists to start the backswing and was very inconsistent. Took lessons that never helped. Figured it out watching guys like you on TH-cam.

    Hey Troy worked on this yesterday at the range and it seemed the more I bent over (creating more angle between forearm and club) the more solid I struck the ball it was easier to feel the hinge going back effectively keeping the clubhead outside the hands...this seems to fly in the face of most teaching that says stand tall at address but the taller I stand the more I tend to pull it inside on the takeaway....great video by the way!

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, yeah standing taller is fine with the longer clubs like the driver, but is perfectly fine with the irons. I don't see it as an issue as long as it feels comfortable and you're getting the results. Cheers

    Me exactly. I trained myself way inside trying to fix my over the top. Developed a wrist roll to square the face. Very bad and inconsistent.
    Current swing feel is to get real vertical with the shaft. When I feel vertical, the real gets the club in a good position.

    My problem taking the club to the inside comes from (in what i beleived in my thought process) taking away a "cupped" wrist at the top. It all comes from having a wrong wrist hinge, in fact having a cuped wrist in the top never really bothered me more than mentally in creating a good swing, because it was my to go move to then come down with a flat wrist at impact hitting solid shots. So your video really helped me coming back to hit really descent shots again.

    Hi, I hear a lot of people say to get the club completely parallel at the start of the swing and have the butt end facing towards the target. So according to this video, do you instead want the butt end facing sort of towards your left thigh and then from that position hinge and turn?

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I do. But, the other method is fine. You just don’t to be taking the club too far in the inside.

    I recently changed my swing as I noticed I was really cupping my left wrist causing a very open club face. I used the feel of bowing my wrist (although in reality it ends up pretty neutral) and for a while I was playing the best golf of my life. But eventually (without me even noticing I was changing anything) I think the wrist movement caused me to start rolling the club very inside my hands. I've gotten to the point where 75% of my shots are shanks off the hozzle. I'm pretty close to just quitting golf so if you have any extra tips for me I would appreciate it more than you know! I want to keep my wrist movement if possible because it really helps me close the face.

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike, I would try to keep it as straight as you can without too much effort. Some good players have it slightly bent and some have it straight. You can play good golf with both. You can still generate plenty of power if it's slightly bent, so I wouldn't be concerned if you can't keep it straight. Cheers

    Great vid Troy. I need your advice. By experimenting I have found a way of returning the clubface square at ballstrike and by chance it also keeps my hands outside as per your video. At address I start the backswing by first cocking my wrists up so the clubhead is still behind the ball but raised above the ground by several inches. At the top of the backswing my trail wrist is now automatically slightly bowed and provided I rotate on the downswing (as per your downswing rotation video) I found the clubhead is invariably square at ballstrike. It looks a bit odd but it seems to work. Am I bonkers or is there some logic to it and worth working with?

    • @Hittingitsolid
      @Hittingitsolid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Steve, I always say if something is working to stick with it. I generally don't advocate a vary bowed trail wrist at the top of the backswing because that would make the lead wrist very cupped and have the club most likely across the line. But, as I said if it's working well for you and getting the results then definitely keep doing it. Cheers

      Hi John, a good feel for you would be to feel your left shoulder lower during the takeaway and backswing. The thing to remember is having a steep backswing is not a bad thing, I actually prefer it. It helps with shallowing in the downswing. If you're too flat in the backswing it can cause you to come down steep in the downswing. Hope that helps. Cheers
