The floorboard, look under the floorboard. There’s always something interesting under there in a Poe story (unless it’s walled up instead or in the attic).
A friend of mine went to visit Poe House in Baltimore. He parked and began to wander the neighborhood. A local came to his aid and said “You’re looking for the Poe House. Go to that corner, turn right and go 600 feet.” My friend thanked the local and asked how he knew he was looking for Poe House. “That’s the ONLY reason White People come to this neighborhood.”

@@Lavarpsu10 Ha, well, not quite. In The Wire the joke was about the local not knowing what the visitor was asking, thinking he was asking about the po' (ie poor) house, and replying something like 'They all po' houses round here'.

@@keldaogg2157 Uh, no. He's from the north of England, and he has shed most of his northern pronunciations -- he now sounds vaguely like someone from the south of England. (And that's _Bawmer_ , not _Bawlmore_ ).

About a week ago, Alasdair Becket-King appeared on a UK panel show, _Mock the Week_ ; he was great, so it's probable that lots of people (I'm one) are now looking for vids with him.
This one isn't!

Me too - I thought I had already ransacked TH-cam for everything he's done.
I had thought he said "Pole House" for a brief moment which caused me to glance up at the title to make sure that l had read it correctly only to find that I was actually MISTAKEN and that it was indeed Poe House!!! So that the joke was on ME!!!! Thank you for so inventively involving the audience in this amazing production in such a surprisingly pleasant manner, it really took me by surprise.

I have a deep suspicion toward antique words that suddenly start popping up everywhere. I think they are harbingers of doom.
A few months ago I watched a youtube video on the Battle of Gettysburg, which according to the narrator, Lee lost because he used the word 'practicable.' Until then, I never saw the word in my life but now I see it everywhere.
Cue Mandela Effect and reality shifts.
