  • The Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District is committed to preserving the Natural Resources of Santa Clara County. This video on the Gray Fox showcases the unique behavior of the Gray Fox and gives the public a few tips on coexisting with wildlife. Predators like the Gray Fox can be a boon to your neighborhood's rodent control, if proper measures are taken to ensure humans and animals can coexist with little conflict. This video is the first in a series of videos on Silicon Valley Wildlife, look for the next episode "Return of the Beavers" this summer.

I saw three of these last night in Sacramento. We have coyotes in the area so at first I thought that's what these were except for the tail and small heads. That promoted me to search YT for more info. That led me to this video. They made the same sounds and have the same graceful walk. Thank you for a great video

One night I saw a grey fox jump up on a backyard fence, right under a porch light. Gorgeous!

Over here in Miami, we have this golf course in the suburbs that has a number of these cute little guys running around all the time. You'd think they wouldn't survive this closes to the city, but they actually manage pretty well, plenty of ducks, birds and food that people like to leave out. I haven't found any carcasses on the sides of the road in all the years I've been here, so it seems they know well enough to avoid cars and people.

We occasionally get gray foxes in our backyard in Almaden, and can sometimes hear their distinctive calls at night.

They are the sweetest animals, one greeted and hung out with me for hours up in the mountains following me around with no apparent fear, I fed it some Turkey scraps and could have probably taken it home without any issue. Of course I didn’t but they seem to be very inquisitive and gentle animals.

Some people do keep them as pets. There's a channel here on TH-cam called Fox Perfect, that features one such grey fox. They are very sweet creatures indeed!

Our gray fox steal peanuts if they find a dropped one by a squirrel, and they get along peacefully with our opossums. I have some pretty cute and hilarious video clips of these beautiful animals.

I have one in my yard here in San Ramon. He comes every night to eat from my lo quat tree. My dog will chase it but it jumps over a six foot fence. It makes that same barking as in the video. It drives my dog nuts.

Maine is at the Northern range of the Grey Fox, but they do come to feed in our yard almost every night. We do see Red Foxes during the day here, but the Greys seem to be strictly a nocturnal species.

Not here. During breeding season, they are active in the evening before dark...and probably in the early morning: crepuscular.

Foxes and coyotes are a huge benefit in getting rid of mice and rats!!!! They are very fearful of humans and generally stay away as much as possible. Coyotes are also beneficial in curbing the wild boar populations across America. Unfortunately, hunters and the government have yet to appreciate their contributions in creating balance in the natural ecosystem.
