Once I had a Professor, just because I did not listen to him in class, he went to stereotype all the Asian students in his class. Whenever other students asked him a question, he would be patient. But when it came to Asian students, he would always go "YOU NEED TO FOCUS". I still remember it to this day

You got stared at because you are cute that’s it! We French have no problems with Asian people, believe me. I think you are very kind toward the French, at least you seem to enjoy the time you spent in this country. Glad you like it 😊

There is a lot of anti East Asian and anti south-east Asian racism in france unfortunately (towards Vietnamese people, Chinese people etc), after all france did colonise and brutalise Vietnam (Indochina) so it’s not surprise the racism against Asians remains within french society in france

It's so enriching to hear how foreigners get the perception of how we, French people behave and interact. Thank you so much for your brilliant set of advice to new comers to France.

"Each individual is important." Yes. We use to call each person "citizen" and hope to be all treated as equals. The "customer is king" does not exist. If the customer is impolite. (S)He is the one making a crass and disrespectful mistake whether they pay or not. Politeness, "hello/goodbye/Mr./Mrs/ Please/Thank you", looking in the eye when you speak etc is for everyone.

About Admin people, you're absolutely spot on but it is the same for us, french people too!! Sometimes they are rude and useless but don't argue with them...just move on. The mindset is often "not my job" or "you didn't do what is expected beforehand "

Nice personal experience sharing 😊 I agree with most of your points, especially on customer service. It is mostly either awful or average and when it is great, it blows your mind off as uncommon it is 😂😂😂😂 There is a French word, you can look up regarding the arrogance of some French individuals, it is called 'chauvinisme', thing you don't experience much in Belgium or Switzerland.

Asians have always been very well accepted in France, they are polite, discreet people who rarely cause problems.
They have their culture, we have ours, and they never try to impose it on us, any more than their religion. We respect each other, so we live on good terms.
This is unfortunately not the case for all foreigners, some try to impose their way of life, their religion on us and this is not tolerated by the French. Asians NEVER do this.

It´s definitely not offensive to say that a person reminds you of someone else that you know and if this person took offence, then they have a problem! Maybe they also did not like that you found them to be similar to someone in the US. The French still have some hostility towards British and Americans and do not like to be compared with them. But again, this is not your problem and it is their problem. It´s not good to take oneself too seriously and the French need to get to grips with that. The French, and again generalizing, because ofcourse not all French people have the same mentality, but overall, they many of them are still not that open-minded and most of them have been trained to be quite conservative in their thinking from an early age. Nothing wrong with adapting the use of the croissant! It´s called innovation. French people also can make things very complicated on purpose and for no good reason and unfortunately they get away with this in many companies and organizations and this is highly unprofessional. This needs to change.
