    I have the 60d and at these settings Im getting a lot of dropped frames and it will stop recording, im about 99% sure its because my sd card can only handle 30mb/s. That is something people need to take into consideration...your sd card should be a high write speed card to get the best performance

    Hello,
    I have a question and I need your opinion.
    I have a 60d and a Sandisk Extreme Pro card of 32GB and 95MB/s. After watching your video, today I did some tests for raw video; I had no problems to create a raw video. However, with a resolution of 1728x972 (16: 9) I could not record more than seven seconds, showing the following message:
    "Early stop (11). Did not make it to Estimated record time!"
    That normal is this?
    Thanks in advance !!

    • @johnathanlim
      @johnathanlim 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheBIOENTE Not sure is it true, I did go online research the facts that 60D only could shoot RAW between 5 sec to 7 sec. Could not proceed more than that. Not sure is is true.

    Before I decide to try this out, I have one question. Can I still shoot with the factory settings of 1920X1080 or will it always make me shoot raw? I'm seeing a lot of concerns about only recording a few seconds. I don't want to ruin my camera.

    • @KYLERHOLLAND

      yes. normal recording times are okay. you do only get a few seconds with raw.

    • @JonGavin86
      @JonGavin86 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay cool. I guess it would just be something a little fun to mess with from time to time when you don't actually have to shoot something. I'll just save up for a black magic or something for real projects in the mean time. I was told that it could make your camera crash from time to time. Have you had this problem?

    • @Astimoff
      @Astimoff 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simply resin-stall 1.1.1 firmware then it will work - just did the update to 1.1.2 myself - then back to 1.1.1 when I realized magic Lantern required it - so I know it can be done. Search the web for 1.1.1 firmware it's still out there...

  • @pleitgeb

    I have an old version of ML installed on my 60D. Should I remove it first, then download this nightly build? I've also been using a SanDisk 32g class 10 95mb/sec card. I imagine that's still sufficient to record raw?

    • @KYLERHOLLAND
      @KYLERHOLLAND  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is sufficient enough to record raw, however, it will eventually stop because of the 60D's buffer speed. The 60D is unable to shoot continuous. Also I would recommend formatting your card and installing the latest nightly build to get the modules tab!
      -Kyler

    • @KYLERHOLLAND
      @KYLERHOLLAND  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Center Cut Studio That's due to the write speed of the Canon 60D. Unfortunately we are limited to 21 Mbps write speeds. However, I would try lowering your resolution and up-scaling it to 1080 just to get more time recording!

    How long can a 60d record raw continuously with a good memory card?

    • @KYLERHOLLAND
      @KYLERHOLLAND  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      NESFAN001 not that long. I've only been able to get about 5 seconds or so.

    • @analilia0656
      @analilia0656 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depens on the resolution. I can get continuous recording (16 min 30 sec) until my 60D reaches 60° degrees so I stop recording (but it technically can continue). The resolution I use for this is slighty lower than 720p but this is presumably still better than 1080p in h.264 (still have to test). If you shoot 1080p RAW or close you will only get those 5 seconds.

    • @TheCrooksandCastle
      @TheCrooksandCastle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      not long ,and its due to the physical camera itself not the firmware. because the write speed on the camera itself tops off i believe 24mbs for shooting raw or higher quality the camera can not write

    Hi great tutorial! I have one question though just to be sure: Is it ok to move the ML files via USB cable to the SD card in camera or does it has to be an external card reader (one that I don´t own at the moment) since that seems to be the case on every tutorial about this)? I´m guessing USB is ok, but haven´t seem a single tutorial that does the transfer that way.. scary shit :D Thanks!

      You can import as an image sequence in premiere as well. Start in premiere and select file>import. Then when it pops up the file explorer just locate the folder that has all the stills you want to import. You'll notice at the bottom of the file explorer a check box that says "Import as sequence" just select that and select the first image in the sequence then hit import and you're done.

    Sorry man forget this crap, use what the pros have been using now for decades EXTERNAL RECORDING. Use the HDMI out and record that to a Ninja Blade SSD recorder ( 500 US) and record to an SSD in full ProRes or DNXHD. This is about a size of a deck of cards for 500 US ( without SSD as you must supply it). The Ninja Blade has turned my Canon 60D ( with Magic Lantern) into a full Blown Cinema Camera. You need to record your camera HDMI out and bypass the in camera compression. This is why the Pro's use external SSD recorders to shoot into editable INTRAFRAME ProRes 10 bit. I never thought I would be able to buy an External SSD HDMI recorder!!! but for 500 US this is cheap as 4 years ago this would be around 15,000 US. The Hollywood monopoly on external hardware is coming to an end.

    • @Dropship12
      @Dropship12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you saying?! The 60D doesn't have a clear HDMI output so you can't record in fullHD via external recorder. I have a 60D and a atomos ninja 2 (which i use with a gh4, and btw with this camera is amazing) and they don't work well togheter.

    • @missingovertokyomovie7528
      @missingovertokyomovie7528 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know nothing about atomos, but I was a network engineer, so my question comes from this perspective: Why won't atomos play well with the HDMI out? I've not looked into this at all, and if you have info that'd save me from chasing down a dead-end, I'd appreciate it. I need to go to a 240mpbs out camera for netflix req's anyway for Missing Over Tokyo, but I'm just curious about this issue. I looked into GH4/5 and they aren't on the Netflix approved list, sadly.

    • @Dropship12
      @Dropship12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MissingOverTokyo Movie i don't know exactly how it works but i can tell you that the Canon 60D can't output a fullhd signal from is hdmi so if you connect the 60D to an external recorder (not only atomos but every external recorder) you can record a prores 422 file but not in 1920x1080

    • @missingovertokyomovie7528
      @missingovertokyomovie7528 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm...I was a transport layer engineer at Microsoft in the past, and if you have data out, and USB 2.0 AND HDMI capacity, then one has to ask what the data paths inside the circuitry are, and if the card can't be bypassed and output directly to a USB or HDMI port, as both of those are substantially faster than the card. DSLR Controller doesn't do that, but it should. Hmmm....this is where I wish I was a EE, but....as a Product Manager, I could spec it out if there was any EE's game to re-code for Magic Lantern/DSLR Controller. Put those three together and WOW!!!

      What are you doing tests of? If you mind. Could you send me a screenshot or something of your image?

      +Justyn Siah Magic lantern has a full website on how to handle it's files with your camera, it also has some very upfront warnings about how magic lantern could damage your camera. You should be researching this things before moving, deleting, or doing anything else with these files. Try using another SD, or even reinstalling Magic Lantern onto another SD card. I recommend using EOScard to install Magic Lantern, as it will take care of a lot of things for you. Good luck.
