Love those trumpet solo`s, however, as a jazz vocalist myself, I have to say what an incredible job Larisa did with this "not so easy" number. Her scat solo simply highlighted what a top class singer she really is.
They say music is a universal language. How better to demonstrate this than to assemble an international lineup of superstars? I love hearing a singer singing this classic in Russian and absolutely knocking it out of the park with impeccable phrasing! Larissa is originally from Azerbaijan. She is Jewish and clearly has so much talent that she could write her ticket anywhere! When she sang in English, it was simply more of the same and more perfection! Wynton Marsalis and Randy Brecker need no introduction, but listening to their respective modal approaches worked with this version of Night of Tunisia.
An interesting trumpet battle. Randy is shure one of the greatest. Seems that Winston knows this. The Handshaking shows respect. Winston's Strategy: Understatement.
The conventions of accounting demand that all the major players are being mentioned in the video's title, even more so since Marsalis is playing like an accountant.
Randy Brecker и Wynton Marsalis - тот случай когда "играют"а не показывают кто лучше.Очень понравилось что в тональности - Cm,получаются на трубе другие краски.
No WYNTON MARSALIS on the title!!! 😠 . By the way, great performance! Big Caucasian audience! Great band! Great trumpets solos! and exchanges🎺. Randy was on par with Wynton and I prefer his sound. I was feeling Wynton s lyricism but not his trumpet sound
This show took place in Russia which probably explains the audience. And it looks like this video was uploaded on the same day as a few others that do have Wynton in the title. I would guess Butman probably uploaded these himself and not in his native language. Just a guess
Sorry, man, randy got his ass handed to him on a silver platter. He clearly was not comfortable playing in this key and played so many wrong notes he didn’t like. He even put himself in a box around 4:25 on a descending run and couldn’t get out of any other way than flubbing some notes together at the end of his phrase. Wynton even took one of his ideas and ran with it when randy played the b9 in his melody at the end of his turn and played with the timing (3:16). You felt the rhythm section dig it and they had a conversation together for about 8 bars before he intelligently led them to resolve the interlocking rhythm together by enclosing on a chord tone at the end of his phrase. Wynton did restrain his playing, but his melodic and harmonic intelligence far surpasses randy in every sense… not to mention his accuracy and command of his instrument is “world class” in every sense of the term.
Y’all chill out Wynton is a God but this video isn’t just him by himself. There’s a lot of other talented and hardworking musicians here. Big deal Wynton doesn’t get mentioned
Two trumpets determined NOT to engage in a cutting contest. A classy mutual respect? Still, Randy by far the more of interest here. Wynton? Fairly pedestrian.

@@masonklein I'll agree with you in that Randy challenged himself, took risks, and gave himself a bit of a dilemma for solving. But then who made hipper mistakes than Miles at his explorative best? Sorry, but there are few if any moments on Wynton's part where he truly swings. He's a virtuoso, sure, but there's such a thing as having too much technique. Chet said of Wynton, "lots of technique, no soul." I'm not sure I'd be quite that judgmental of Wynton, but Chet had a point. To say that Randy wasn't comfortable playing in that key is just silly. The tune is in G, for Gawd's sake. As a young trumpeter playing professionally at fifteen, Night in Tunisia was among the easiest of jazz tunes for me to play. You talk a good game, though, I'll say that for you.

@@jackp-w3886 I still disagree. Satchmo or Art Blakey, they played each time as if it was their Last Gig. And they were less paid than these 2 Trumpet giants here bluffing with friendly fire on an expensive Stage. Get some college Kid there with half the fee and see how the public will go how smiling for their MONEY when the kid blows on A night in Tunisia ,( in C min). 😂
Wonderful version...they really were swinging! Wynton, with all due respect, needed some more fire on this great jazz standard IMO. You can't blame people for their accent. But, what I can not understand, there is Wynton, and Randy, and she didn't learn the lyrics. She reads them of a tablet, like in a chep wedding band.

It's on there!
Barry Titone Great, his name was added..
Barry Titone Now it is.....His name wasn’t there a yr ago...
Thank you, ButmanMusic, for fixing the title and putting Wynton's name in it. Much appreciated--respect to you!
Winton kept the pace low-key. Most trumpet guys blow the hell out of the horn when going into that Trumpet interlude. Nice touch.
Wynton is "The Master" of our time. Fantastic!
In what respect?
You should acknowledge/credit Wynton in the title of this video

Wynton is beyond "nice". Dude is downright smooth!
an old Bach 37 makes the re-invented thing sound like a Flugel
...for whatever reason, Marsalis was clearly restained here. And no, I wouldn't call myself a fan.
