OMG! Saw this edition of the band at Rocky River HS near Cleveland right around this time. Was a jazz major at Akron U and all the 'cats' were there...met Freddie Green & had a nice conversation with Thad afterwards, bucket list item CHECK! Huge debt to all these great gentlemen.....

I saw this same orchestra in 1986. Powerhouse doesn't even come close to describing the sound from this group of "Top-Shelf" musicians. Byron was spot on that night like usual. He's a Ferguson and Severinsen rolled into one!

Byron, playing an old NY Bach, and a Bach 1 mouthpiece. Not a 1C, a 1. A cannon. He just doesn't miss.

As a lead/Principle player, the Bach 3 was it for me. The Bach 1 was just too big for my amount of wind & endurance. My horn of choice was Benge.
