Very sorry to hear about your tragic loss of your full auto trigger group. I too have suffered unfortunate losses in a recent incident while boating on the lake. It really weighs on you.
My Ptr 9ct, after a short break in, ran flawlessly. Lubed it well. The paddle magazine release lever was a little stiff at first, but with lubrication, and inserting and removing the magazine about fifty times, it worked fine. Be sure to watch other TH-cam videos, on field stripping. Most of it is easy, but for me, the bolt head assembly/disassembly took me extra time to learn. I got a folding brace too. My last mission, is to find a good green dot optic, with a riser, that will give me a1/3rd co-witness sighting (above the O-ring) Suggestions appreciated.
You can get a drop in paddle mag release for the SP5k for $75 (sucks that it didn't come with it but it is available). The HK bungee sling does the job; not sure what "better" actually means in your assessment; but lets face it no sport shooter will actually use the damn thing because they will end up mounting a brace on it anyways. HK added a finger guard to the fwd grip to help prevent people from putting a finger in front of the barrel but its extreamly uncomfortable to hold it by the fwd grip in my opinion. Holding it by the magazine is much better and also positions you better for fast reloads (especially if you add the HK parts extended mag release). So in all (assuming you get the SP5k for no more than MSRP) you a going to drop about 3k (SBT Brace, paddle release, extended mag release, Holosun optic) to have an SP5k that is setup to be more than an novelty... Now, is the HK branding and markings worth $1k extra....HELL YES, but that is just my opinion. Lots of people at my range have complained about breaking parts on their MPXs...essentially they are great until they arn't. I will say though, the MPX trigger pisses all over the MP5 trigger.

I love the roller delayed firearms and earlier this year both me and my nephew picked up this same model of the PRT. We both love them and every time I go to the pit it has to go with me. Nice to see even more of these in Washington ;-)
If you enjoy roller delayed firearms, you would love the hk 21. My friend had a transferable 21 and it was a blast to shoot. You could shoulder fire that gun and still hold it to a 16 by 16 steel plate. I’m a big dude so the recoil was minor due to the weight.
I believe mp5 clones made in the US don’t have to have the redesigned trigger pack only imported ones so if you happened to have a registered trigger pack you could throw it on and rock and roll
I don't know what's going on with sig but they have had quiet a bit of quality control issues out of there last few offering. I hope there listening to there customer base and fixing it . Cause I want to buy them. Great review brother !
trever davis they seem to be getting worse. I’ve had sigs for over 20 years and they seem to be Diversifying into a lot of different areas, which seems to be taking the focus away from firearms. I think the P series is probably going to go away here pretty soon. By pretty soon I mean with in the next 10 years. I know they discontinued the p-227 Which I totally love more so than my 220s. If you have any P series keep them they will go up in value. It’ll be a while but I will happen.

Old video I know but agree with you I own nearly every HK firearm sold in the US since the 80's but also own newer guns like the B&T's, MPX and so on. The Mp5 is old I have near a dozen of them 2 mp5 parts kit builds, SP5, SP89, Sp94, SP5k's and some clones like a Dakota tactical SD and a PTR 603 etc. Again I agree I would take a modern PCC or the very old MP5 the roller locks are more for collectors or those who want a more classic gun. Same as an AR vs an MCX, ACR or SCAR. After 30yrs of gun collecting and 40yrs of shooting AR's and AK's are flat out boring to me. I like new or unique guns like the VHS2/Helllion or a classic like the Mp5. Still waiting of the Mp7 Tom Bostic is working on over at Tommybuilt. I also love the G36 have nearly every model of the G36 in my collection IE E, K and C etc etc. Again not into cookie cutter AR's, Glocks and AK's etc. Pardon the rant but also concur the PTR can use any HK part maybe with modding for stocks and grips, but for internal parts they are identical to my actual HK's and fit right in. Don't forget to check your bolt gap 😊 roller lockers!
You can have an SEF lower on it, its not a serialized part and so long as the trigger pack is not NFA restricted and has no function in making it full auto or not. If you do have a NFA trigger pack then you can literally swap it with any firearm that can accept it because it is the registered part. There is literally nothing bad or illegal or "constructive intent about having a SEF lower on a firearm. Its about as illegal "constructive intent" as having an AR15 lower with 3 position markings or echo trigger

I’ve been watching gun channels on TH-cam for years, just “discovered” this channel this morning, and have been binge watching since. My interests are the same (less the snakes), and also have a career in the profession of arms. I’m becoming a fan...and definitely a good diversion from staff work!
I am pretty sure the bolt has been demilled on these. I know this because when I purchased my bobcat sp5 13 years ago (talk crap about todd bailey but the thing ran awesome just like my issued mp and even fired for two more rounds after brass kicked out, bounced off a barricade and back into the ejection port when I was firing another round.) My local SOT was interested in renting it from me while I was waiting for the SBR to get back. They had a registered sear pack and it wouldnt cycle because they alter the bolt to prevent that.
Also, I will slide my normal response into here. Why if weed is still illegal all over the US to grow and sell weed, and the ATF quotes the marijuana case law as to how they can hammer you for building a machinegun, why are they not enforcing marijuana laws but they are gun laws? I remember something about equal protection under the law. There is also a second amendment covering the right to bear arms but not a right to smoke yourself stupid.
My SP5k came with the rear drum sight so I’m not sure how’s your didn’t. 🤔 it’s extremely good quality and runs like a champion. The only thing that sucks about it is the fact that it doesn’t come with the threaded barrel which I am currently having installed by a smith since it requires a good amount of work to do it right. I also put an MP5k paddle Mag release on which is not expensive and takes only a few minutes. All that said I do like both the Zenith and PTR variants of the MP5.

Ahhh the the trigger group - yes changing it with the selector will do that.. what ever you mean - not like reliable but still - I had the same shit happen with my POF.. so yep killed that as well. found great happiness with the BFS trigger...
Great video but you should know that full auto kits for the mpx are making their way onto the private market so both guns are good for civil war. Also 9mm isn't dead cause with skinnier magazines you can carry more in your pockets concealed and with the carbine still have the capability to hit out to 100 yards with high velocity ammo
If you dont like the rail and you want to spend $ hundreds on a claw mount, get the PTR 9CT- CL...if you want the 5.5" barrel, get PTR-9K. it is 2023 now and they are STILL $ 1599.
I am with you. I love MP5’s, they are my all time favorite Sub Gun (from movies and video games ). :-/ But I think i love my MPX more and its better bang for the buck. Especially with a binary trigger. :-)
Hey Sean did you have any malfunctions with your PTR 9ct like double feeds and failures to eject, because I just got mine in today and I've had 5 fte, 1 dubf in the 1st 30rds with some 115gr and 4 fte, 3dubf with the 2nd 30rd mag and I was curious to see if you had any problems with your break in lgike this

@@seanconnolly1154 the stock full auto trigger pack wont work in a smu auto with a semi shelf, it would need to be cut and the sear would need to be relocated due to the cut, the lower ( SEF or pictogram) would then need to be modified by opening up the "ears" and the hole so it can fit in a semi shelf, im my PTR im running a SUO clipped and pinned lower

Base model MPXs are more expensive than a PTR MP5. You get ONLY one mag standard with the gun and if you want more mags they are expensive as shit because they a proprietary and no after market mags are made. At least none that I have heard of. The MPX is FAR less versatile than an MP5 as well with the different kinds of parts available. If I had the money I would take an MP5 over an MPX any day.
Honestly if you took it to a range I’d bet a lot of people would just think it was an MP5 that had been customised at a glance. Then you’d have the serious gun guys immediately spot it’s a clone since who the fuck would pay 5 grand for an MP5 then change out the furniture 😂
Any updates on the PTR? I've heard of some people having issues, others worked flawlessly. I know you use your guns hard and usually report if something bad has happened, so I guess no new videos is good news right?
thanks for the f*cking review. Still didnt tell us which one was best. This wasnt a MP5 VS MPX video, I would searched for that, from another youtuber. (also, MPX with 4.5 barrel and in 9mm with brace is over 1,800.00 while the PTR 9CT w/ brace and 8.8'' barrel at 1690.00)
Their is no doubt the mpx is a more modern, advanced cheaper to produce PPC but it does have some flaws that the MP5 does not and they are direct function/use issues. Further in terms of durability and function of the actual cycling system the MP5 is superior and more reliable at least until what is it now about the 3rd gen or updating of the sig M_X line. Can you recall all but a few times were a real MP5 or proper clone using current HK mags ever failed using fmj ammo that was not a ammo manf or failed primer issue? If in doubt ask competitors or read the threads of how many MPX go tits up during comps or range training. How they are finicky with ammo that is not full pressure even after the gun was broken in. Thats with fmj lower pressure but nothing stupid low as it has to make PF and they have gas settings to allow for more gas. Sorry but adj gas systems should allow for only moderately pressured ammo to still function. The MPX is totally horrendous shooting suppressed. I have never shot one with any suppressor that you did not end up getting completely gassed over in the face. ITs redicuslous the amount of gas you get. It would be a serious threat to the team and shooter tactically its so bad. Even with full goggles so much gets in your lungs you end up coughing etc. I never thought it would be as bad as it is. In 300BO or 5.56 full pressure its even worse. It is also clearly louder than the MP5 or DI ARs. Recoil is about DI level in PPC its VERY close to the MP5 for felt an flat shooting. Call it a draw. It blows away blowback AR in pistol. But is matched by CMMG radial delay bolt system and handily beaten by it suppressed where later matches the MP5. The MPX beats the mp5 hands down in control functions upgradeability. Its not even close. But the choice sig made to make ALL its barrel lengths use the same short beech to gas port distance with it being ever so close to the chamber is why you get so much more gas from the ejection port in the face than either a AR DI or radial blow backs. The MPX/MCX lines all are opening the breech sooner which is the reason for the extra gas. If you think of it logically its the only reason one gun has more gas than another. Both shoot the same ammo. All have a in spec barrel and all have a gas port both DI and the SIG piston have the gas in the receiver. If you look at the open design and placement of the Sig piston and gas block you can see what I mean. The receiver is open fully in the front not like a DI or other piston AR uppers. So the only difference in amount of gas coming bacj thru the chamber which is where the bulk of suppressed gas comes from than ends up in your face is fron the bolt openings timing of the gas system. The sooner it opens the more vas from the breech and the louder the sound from said area. This is why standard blow backs are loud and get quieter as you increase the weight and spring tensions. Its why the radial delay of CMMG is as quiet as a MP5. The MPX is right their with standard light weighted blowback AR but with out the benefit of being able to use charge handles specific for stopping the gas that come thru the handle port. Will this stop me from owning a MPX/MCX??? Hell no!!!! With all that said they are still awesome in too many other ways. IF OSS would make a pistol can I would love to see how it would do as on the AR DI its the only one that brought sound at the shooters ear to a safe level I have seen tested. It without a doubt is the only cal specific can to have little effect on the cycle speed, All others sped way up or had to have adj gas systems. Not what you want on a bolt gun but semi hands down its a good deisgn even counting its a heavy can. Now that this final mech design has been cemented with the SURG SOCOM contract being filled and on going supplied we have more of a guarantee Sig will not just drop support with a new gen in a few months that it is so well known for doing. It is without a doubt the worst of the large firearms companies when it comes to supporting its firearms and products in general after sale. It also more than any company treats its early adopting consumer customers as nothing more than beta testers. I have known this about sig every since their restructuring in the late 90s early 2K. Before that they were almost to HK level of fit and reliability precision support. This is why I waited for the SURG contract to finish and start shipping and fielding before I purchased. As knowing sig there would have to be changes and there were. Now we have a set platform for the most part and like Sig they made a new model designation thats not in some areas backward compatible and left gen1 in the cold. But we have the Virtus line which is basically the SURG upper to a proprietary lower. Again I love the MPX/MCX lines, will own them, but consider all the guns HK stilll supports that it has made since the 50s 60s compare that to SIG that will not support a gun just 2 yrs after manf date. Not to mention from a durability and quality of parts sig is like buying china made vs USA compared to HK. Take for example EVERY firearm HK produces or has produced must be able to take a lodged bullet in the barrel with a second bullet fired without failure of barrel or bolt locking and when cleared the gun must continue to function. Everything from the mp5 to the hk45 to the hk416 P7 etc all of them. They a true mil grade combat battle firearms more so than another manf firearm. But alas I agree the MPX is a modern PPC with many benefits for rec shooter compared to the mp5. But it will NEVER be the icon the mp5 line was, is, or ever will be . It will fade into history as a specialty firearm the mil ordered for a period of time nothing more. I want to make it clear other than the gas blow back in the face suppressed and that its rather loud suppressed compared to a MP5 or even a DI AR the M_X Sig line is AWESOME. I do not mind the proprietary lower as long as they make the rear conversion block stock mount available to the public as all there capacity in those is going to the Mil contract presently. The gun is awesome. It comes apart easy. Has good accuracy and reliability. AR ergos. Its a bit heavy but its a piston gun so it will be compared to a DI. With the switch barrel/caliber now being a real thing along with Mloc HG I will own both a MPX and MCX. Their suppressors even though it seems some want to hate on them are actually quite good. They have extra volume which gives both less blow back and better suppression. Never understand why people argue when the meters prove this out. Volume is a sure fire was to reduce sound and gas pressure. With that said the MP5 can use many different stocks from retractable, folding right or left, fixed, higher or lower cheek or shoulder weld points. All easily avaible. Mag can be hand from 10-40 rnd stick curved or straight or 50 drum. Prices of POF mags which give functioned great for most everyone are cheaper than MPX. That is what PTR supplies thier guns with. We now have all sorts of handguards. Thick, thin, pic, key/mloc, flash light mount etc. Extended bolt and paddle mag releases, all sorts or top rail mounts or welded on pic rails. You can purchase every part of a MP5 that you will ever need aftermarket and direct HK parts. You can not purchase any Sig M_X parts unless its under a warranty fix. Only LE and Mil armors can get parts. MP5 have a ridiculous duty cycle for parts wear. Not to mention with maintenance you have gun manf in the 60s that are still active duty guns with over 500K thru some of them and 100% functioning with proper maintenance and wear parts replaced as needed. Tech only the SURG contract model is suppose to have a frame system duty span of 125K IIRC with IIRC a 10% failure rate to not reach that count. Will Civy models last that long??? Would they even be supported with avaible parts long enough to matter??? I doubt it but do not know. This goes to long term value. A well used but up kept HK is worth very close to a lightly used HK aftermarket and very close to its MSRP or more depending if they stay available.. Which then goes to long term value. I think its safe to say MP5 will hold resale value way way better than any M_X gun. I just saw a used 16" 5.56 MCX Virtus complete gun go for $695 on gunbroker. Wish I had bought it but there is another where biding is still that low. We will see. Nothing wrong just had a few thousand rounds thru it. The equivalence of 1 at most 2 carbine classes you would TDY for. Damn I can run my mouth or keyboard in this case when I have time to kill LOL

Why if weed is still illegal all over the US to grow and sell weed, and the ATF quotes the marijuana case law as to how they can hammer you for building a machinegun, why are they not enforcing marijuana laws but they are gun laws? I remember something about equal protection under the law. There is also a second amendment covering the right to bear arms but not a right to smoke yourself stupid.
My SP5k came with the rear drum sight so I’m not sure how’s your didn’t. 🤔 it’s extremely good quality and runs like a champion. The only thing that sucks about it is the fact that it doesn’t come with the threaded barrel which I am currently having installed by a smith since it requires a good amount of work to do it right. I also put an MP5k paddle Mag release on which is not expensive and takes only a few minutes. All that said I do like both the Zenith and PTR variants of the MP5.

Great video but you should know that full auto kits for the mpx are making their way onto the private market so both guns are good for civil war. Also 9mm isn't dead cause with skinnier magazines you can carry more in your pockets concealed and with the carbine still have the capability to hit out to 100 yards with high velocity ammo

I am with you. I love MP5’s, they are my all time favorite Sub Gun (from movies and video games ). :-/ But I think i love my MPX more and its better bang for the buck. Especially with a binary trigger. :-)

nothing illegal about owning a SEF lower even with the full auto parts while owning an MP5 since it wont fit without mods

@@seanconnolly1154 the stock full auto trigger pack wont work in a smu auto with a semi shelf, it would need to be cut and the sear would need to be relocated due to the cut, the lower ( SEF or pictogram) would then need to be modified by opening up the "ears" and the hole so it can fit in a semi shelf, im my PTR im running a SUO clipped and pinned lower

Base model MPXs are more expensive than a PTR MP5. You get ONLY one mag standard with the gun and if you want more mags they are expensive as shit because they a proprietary and no after market mags are made. At least none that I have heard of. The MPX is FAR less versatile than an MP5 as well with the different kinds of parts available. If I had the money I would take an MP5 over an MPX any day.

Their is no doubt the mpx is a more modern, advanced cheaper to produce PPC but it does have some flaws that the MP5 does not and they are direct function/use issues. Further in terms of durability and function of the actual cycling system the MP5 is superior and more reliable at least until what is it now about the 3rd gen or updating of the sig M_X line. Can you recall all but a few times were a real MP5 or proper clone using current HK mags ever failed using fmj ammo that was not a ammo manf or failed primer issue? If in doubt ask competitors or read the threads of how many MPX go tits up during comps or range training. How they are finicky with ammo that is not full pressure even after the gun was broken in. Thats with fmj lower pressure but nothing stupid low as it has to make PF and they have gas settings to allow for more gas. Sorry but adj gas systems should allow for only moderately pressured ammo to still function.
The MPX is totally horrendous shooting suppressed. I have never shot one with any suppressor that you did not end up getting completely gassed over in the face. ITs redicuslous the amount of gas you get. It would be a serious threat to the team and shooter tactically its so bad. Even with full goggles so much gets in your lungs you end up coughing etc. I never thought it would be as bad as it is. In 300BO or 5.56 full pressure its even worse. It is also clearly louder than the MP5 or DI ARs. Recoil is about DI level in PPC its VERY close to the MP5 for felt an flat shooting. Call it a draw. It blows away blowback AR in pistol. But is matched by CMMG radial delay bolt system and handily beaten by it suppressed where later matches the MP5.
The MPX beats the mp5 hands down in control functions upgradeability. Its not even close. But the choice sig made to make ALL its barrel lengths use the same short beech to gas port distance with it being ever so close to the chamber is why you get so much more gas from the ejection port in the face than either a AR DI or radial blow backs. The MPX/MCX lines all are opening the breech sooner which is the reason for the extra gas. If you think of it logically its the only reason one gun has more gas than another. Both shoot the same ammo. All have a in spec barrel and all have a gas port both DI and the SIG piston have the gas in the receiver. If you look at the open design and placement of the Sig piston and gas block you can see what I mean. The receiver is open fully in the front not like a DI or other piston AR uppers. So the only difference in amount of gas coming bacj thru the chamber which is where the bulk of suppressed gas comes from than ends up in your face is fron the bolt openings timing of the gas system. The sooner it opens the more vas from the breech and the louder the sound from said area. This is why standard blow backs are loud and get quieter as you increase the weight and spring tensions. Its why the radial delay of CMMG is as quiet as a MP5. The MPX is right their with standard light weighted blowback AR but with out the benefit of being able to use charge handles specific for stopping the gas that come thru the handle port. Will this stop me from owning a MPX/MCX??? Hell no!!!! With all that said they are still awesome in too many other ways. IF OSS would make a pistol can I would love to see how it would do as on the AR DI its the only one that brought sound at the shooters ear to a safe level I have seen tested. It without a doubt is the only cal specific can to have little effect on the cycle speed, All others sped way up or had to have adj gas systems. Not what you want on a bolt gun but semi hands down its a good deisgn even counting its a heavy can.
Now that this final mech design has been cemented with the SURG SOCOM contract being filled and on going supplied we have more of a guarantee Sig will not just drop support with a new gen in a few months that it is so well known for doing. It is without a doubt the worst of the large firearms companies when it comes to supporting its firearms and products in general after sale. It also more than any company treats its early adopting consumer customers as nothing more than beta testers. I have known this about sig every since their restructuring in the late 90s early 2K. Before that they were almost to HK level of fit and reliability precision support. This is why I waited for the SURG contract to finish and start shipping and fielding before I purchased. As knowing sig there would have to be changes and there were. Now we have a set platform for the most part and like Sig they made a new model designation thats not in some areas backward compatible and left gen1 in the cold. But we have the Virtus line which is basically the SURG upper to a proprietary lower.
Again I love the MPX/MCX lines, will own them, but consider all the guns HK stilll supports that it has made since the 50s 60s compare that to SIG that will not support a gun just 2 yrs after manf date. Not to mention from a durability and quality of parts sig is like buying china made vs USA compared to HK. Take for example EVERY firearm HK produces or has produced must be able to take a lodged bullet in the barrel with a second bullet fired without failure of barrel or bolt locking and when cleared the gun must continue to function. Everything from the mp5 to the hk45 to the hk416 P7 etc all of them. They a true mil grade combat battle firearms more so than another manf firearm. But alas I agree the MPX is a modern PPC with many benefits for rec shooter compared to the mp5. But it will NEVER be the icon the mp5 line was, is, or ever will be . It will fade into history as a specialty firearm the mil ordered for a period of time nothing more.
I want to make it clear other than the gas blow back in the face suppressed and that its rather loud suppressed compared to a MP5 or even a DI AR the M_X Sig line is AWESOME. I do not mind the proprietary lower as long as they make the rear conversion block stock mount available to the public as all there capacity in those is going to the Mil contract presently. The gun is awesome. It comes apart easy. Has good accuracy and reliability. AR ergos. Its a bit heavy but its a piston gun so it will be compared to a DI. With the switch barrel/caliber now being a real thing along with Mloc HG I will own both a MPX and MCX. Their suppressors even though it seems some want to hate on them are actually quite good. They have extra volume which gives both less blow back and better suppression. Never understand why people argue when the meters prove this out. Volume is a sure fire was to reduce sound and gas pressure.
With that said the MP5 can use many different stocks from retractable, folding right or left, fixed, higher or lower cheek or shoulder weld points. All easily avaible. Mag can be hand from 10-40 rnd stick curved or straight or 50 drum. Prices of POF mags which give functioned great for most everyone are cheaper than MPX. That is what PTR supplies thier guns with. We now have all sorts of handguards. Thick, thin, pic, key/mloc, flash light mount etc. Extended bolt and paddle mag releases, all sorts or top rail mounts or welded on pic rails. You can purchase every part of a MP5 that you will ever need aftermarket and direct HK parts. You can not purchase any Sig M_X parts unless its under a warranty fix. Only LE and Mil armors can get parts. MP5 have a ridiculous duty cycle for parts wear. Not to mention with maintenance you have gun manf in the 60s that are still active duty guns with over 500K thru some of them and 100% functioning with proper maintenance and wear parts replaced as needed. Tech only the SURG contract model is suppose to have a frame system duty span of 125K IIRC with IIRC a 10% failure rate to not reach that count. Will Civy models last that long??? Would they even be supported with avaible parts long enough to matter??? I doubt it but do not know. This goes to long term value. A well used but up kept HK is worth very close to a lightly used HK aftermarket and very close to its MSRP or more depending if they stay available.. Which then goes to long term value. I think its safe to say MP5 will hold resale value way way better than any M_X gun. I just saw a used 16" 5.56 MCX Virtus complete gun go for $695 on gunbroker. Wish I had bought it but there is another where biding is still that low. We will see. Nothing wrong just had a few thousand rounds thru it. The equivalence of 1 at most 2 carbine classes you would TDY for.
