I appreciate the shout out! You've did very well on the cost!! See you at Helen!
Can't wait!
It doesn't matter. Nothing beats the awesome music 🎶 from a VR6 engine. Worth the money!!
Should bring back the VR6 at the very least offer it as an option for enthusiasts who still rather have a VR6 instead of the four banger popcorn 🍿 fart machines!!
Well said! Unfortunately I don’t think the VR6 will ever come back in the states 😢
@Ninety4co Unfortunately, you're right 😢. I owned a MK4 R32 and it was supercharged lost it in a flood in 2012 it had only 28K miles on it went to plenty of shows at English Town NJ, VW and AUDI show and go and WATERFEST, I miss those shows I'm hoping to pick one up a VR6 something, a GTI 24V VR6 or maybe MK5 R32, a 2018 PASSAT GT VR6 or the EOS convertible VR6. As long as it's a VR6 😅. Have fun at the show in May
I am so glad I'm not organized enough to keep personal receipts lol! Neither myself, nor my wife. Need to know the real total on how much I spent swapping the Tiguan. I didn't do the engine rebuild portion that you did... but I also didn't have an intact engine to sell. Add the tools to do it as it was my first car project.... yeeeesh. Lol. I still regularly talk about that day at the boat launch. COMPLETELY unplanned, I knew you were coming but had no idea Andres and Danny were gonna be there. NVM to randomly all show up to an abandoned parking lot. Didn't just make my day. Made my year. And honestly ruined all other events this year lol!
Quickbooks baby 👌 And yessir I agree! 100% made the event for me. Gotta do it again next year
Thanks for the shoutout Chobey. I’m just trying to finish up some last minute things on my Mk6. I’ll see that Friday at the Mk6 meetup.
THERE HE IS!
As a guy who went from a 12V to a 2.0T, I love the power, but miss the sound so much. Very nice job on this, I'm jealous!
It would be cool to see a video of what the swap would cost us, like if someone were to attempt this without the free/gifts/discounts that you got.
Thanks! In all honesty not much more. There’s also a lot of stuff I went over the top on, and hindsight being 20/20 I could have saved on.
But a lot of what I bought was street/retail/used. Engine, transmission, the tune, all the battery relocation supplies, the battery, the paint, the fenders, underglow, probably 50% of the engine rebuild supplies… the money I saved with wholesale accounts and sponsors you can easily make up by finding a lower mileage engine that needs less work, no doubt in my mind.
Honestly this is something that I wanna do to my Mk6 GTI someday, but I don't wanna ruin the clean title of it 😭I think a VR5 swap would be really cool especially with the DSG. Definitely would be unique in Canada and VW enthusiasts would snap their necks. Love your build dude, looks and sounds amazing!
Does engine swapping a car in Canada change the title?
@@Ninety4co I just discovered that it doesn’t. Which is great. I just have one that’s been maintained so well by the original owner so I’d feel bad to mod it like that. The engine and car is in fantastic shape at 200k kms. Someday though it would be so cool.
Awesome work man. Hopefully I can see this in person next may.
Helen? I’m always there
I appreciate the content and all the good information you’ve been so willing to provide. Very helpful, and much needed in the car community. Keep it up, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more content.
That’s what the VW community is all about!
All things considered, the price after all the stuff you sold is really solid for a swap as comprehensive and clean as yours imo. Like you said, can't put a price on your dream car, but yours was fair! It definitely pays to know your stuff
Honestly I’m very pleased with the financial outcome. $4100 +/- for a one of a kind car that otherwise doesn’t exist is a W in my book. Very proud to be able to do it all myself.
VR swap the world❤
Yessir 😎
I hope it's worth every dollar spent. Thanks for the video!
Oh it definitely is. Thanks for watching!
Comparatively speaking, that's not a lot more than I spent on my Mk4 24v VR swap ($3000 with a lot of rebuild parts) especially considering how much more work you had to do. Well done! Wish I could make it to Helen this year.
Overall I’m very happy with the final cost. Vr swap the world!
Nice can't wait for up coming videos 😲👍
Thanks! More to come soon, thinking about doing a vid in Helen.
Is there anyway to figure out how much the parts you got for free would cost? I love the up front honesty, but it would be cool if we could get a grand total for us normal folks lol. Great video and as a fellow mk6 owner, this car is awesome. We need more mk6s. Feels like everyone is sleeping on them for some reason. Maybe I'm biased but the 7.5 just looks so boring in comparison lol
Sure! So the mounts are about $300 apiece. The test pipes about $600. The grill, bolts, and other misc. things maybe added up to another $3-400, but obviously you don’t NEED those things if you want to purely JUST swap your car.
A lot of what I did was extra/overkill. The dress up hardware, new fenders, the bay shave, the grill, the new trunk setup, etc. If you wanted to save even more money you could source a lower mileage 3.6 that needs less work. I went way over the top on the rebuilt for the sale of leaning/content, but you could easily spend $1-2k less than me just on the engine by buying a cleaner 3.6.
Assume build bro huge thumps up👍👍 this is the type of swap i want to do to my 2012 VW Jetta SportWagen TDI
Thanks Man! You can do it!
Sucked to only see this for a little bit at Wookies, but worth every second
Will you be at Helen this year?
Thanks for the breakdown! You said $50 for the headlights... from where the junkyard?
From a marketplace ad for a mk6 partout
@@Ninety4co haha nice
I would love to do this swap to my mk6 Jetta
Do it! You won’t regret it!
love the build man, and the heart put into it! as for cosmetics though, what side skirts are those? i really like how they go up the wheel well a bit in the rear. the futuras are so hot too!!
Thanks! They’re OEM thunderbunny skirts off of a mk5. Last I checked VW still has a few sets in their dealer network collecting dust in a warehouse.
@@Ninety4co very cool!
@@nickd7572 I’m actually selling them now if you’re interested. DM me on IG.
love the video man!
Appreciate it! I’m glad you enjoyed it
what make are the alloys and where did u get them
They’re OZ Futuras. I built them a few years ago. I talk about them in this video: th-cam.com/video/SZKrv8SIRkI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JUPhRzG_qaCCbszO
Cani know your rs seat is it plug and play ?
They bolt it without any modifications, but they have to be completely rewired.
Do my Mk6 gli next! 😂
Swap it? If you’re serious DM me on either IG @chobester / @ninety4.co
Really not that bad considering some places will charge double if not more to do a similar swap and awd conversion. 🤷🏽♂️ (based off the 10k that is)…
Exactly! I’m still trying to formulate what I’d charge if a customer wanted me to do their car
Sadly its the only way that makes sense to mess with. If you're not doing the labor yourself, and don't have access to wholesale vendor pricing, you're going to be coughing up a shit ton in parts and the labor can easily become catastrophic. Even the best shops run into wiring, fueling, ecu issues, etc. I would love to do this with one of my vdubs but I am afraid of the various pitfalls.
@@chozen_juan like I mentioned, only a small amount of the stuff I bought was purchased at wholesale, and the discounts are slimmer than you think. A majority of the stuff I got I paid retail for/I bought used.
I also understand I could have bought a low mileage used engine and saved thousands (not having to replace as much) but part of the fun was tearing the VR all the way down.
Bay shave was another item that was unnecessary and could Be cut out to reduce time/cost.
What fault lights did you get and how did you get rid of them..
Pretty much all of them! ABS, traction, brake, airbag lights were all on for ABS faults related to the Passat ECU looking for a TCM. Coding took care of that.
Engine light was on for a number of sensors. Some sensors were no longer there, some sensors were bad, and some needed more rewiring. So coding, replacing parts, and wiring took care of all that. The dash is has no lights on it now.
So that exhaust shown is the vibrant one you we spoke about? Part number please
No sir, that vibrant one is off the car and for sale along with the old quad tips
@@Ninety4co ohhhh I can’t use that style because I’m still a 4 door so I need 2 separate mufflers I was just curious as to what’s gonna sound fhe best but seams like exhaust styles like that sound the best with vr6’s
Blaze it
Was waiting for this comment
Rule #1: Never add it all up 😹
Well hopefully now people out there wondering if it’s work it are equipped with more info now.
@@Ninety4co yeah man for sure. It's great information, was just making a joke about totaling up build costs :)
@@gbot.thebot oh I know! Never adding it up again 😂😂
Can't hide money
🪦 to the 🐐
If you're bored and want to start a new project i will take the loss and trade you my 2006 rabbit for your mk6 😂
You drive a hard bargain 👀
Money can't buy happiness with a lame 4-banger ..
Now with that wookie six-pack you definately get more smiles per miles ..
No hate towards 4cyls, mine was very good to me! But for what I want out of the car it can’t hold a candle to the VR
