    Just got an old bandit, needs the brakes done and lots more, thanks to you I've tackled the caliper clean and rubber seal replacement, going to replace the pads and do the same on the rear and maybe the discs too, you make it all look easy and to be fair the way you teach it, it is, thanks Del for giving me the confidence to have a go myself, cheers.

    Nice presentation, easy to follow and understand. I can see why it's important to cover the main tasks of pad replacement before getting into the "refurbishment". The best instruction for the newbie, is ALWAYS in small understandable increments. Thanks for the post, I enjoyed it.

  • @Moonfleet41
    @Moonfleet41  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi mate, you hit the nail exactly on the head, your bike is 5yrs newer than mine and has different calipers, take your pads out and buy the ones that look identical, on the sale listing check that your bike is specified and if in doubt, e-mail the seller and ask them if they fit your specific bike... this way if he guarantees them to be correct and they are not, it is his liability to replace them with the right ones or refund your money...good luck with it, take care, Del

    Hey Mikey. Its a bit wide open that one, it depends on how you use them and the quality of pads you buy, crappy cheap pads used heavily all the time could rub out in 3-4,000 miles but a decent quality pair of pads like EBC treated properly by a sympathetic rider could be 4 times that, as a guide I used EBC pads the last time & they gave me 15,000 miles, but maintaining the calipers (keeping them free'd off and not binding) & riding with sympathy to your consumables is the key Take care buddy,Del

    Hi Bisto.. thats a tall ask in one comment box.. its not hard to balance them, but the best way would be to get a manual to get the basic run through, use the mercury gauges for the easiest results..and set aside plenty of time as it takes a while to get the hang of setting them in turn.... sorry i cant just give you an easy fix on that, its a bit of a knack.. but practice makes perfect..

    Hi mate, the squeeling is caused by VHF vibration, and the task it to stop it..some bikes actually have a thin steel shim plate that goes between pad and piston, see if you are meant to have some and they are missing?.if they are binding even a little bit then get them cleaned properly, watch my cleaning calipers video, and if it still does it then maybe strip and rebuild the caliper with new seals. finally, check what kind of pads its meant to have, maybe softer pads would help, good luck, Del.

  • @Moonfleet41
    @Moonfleet41  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    See my 'Clutch Fluid Change' which I just loaded, it's the exact procedure for brakes too..sometimes trapped air can fragment into microscopic bubbles and permeate throughout the fluid,so even if you've just bled them it's worth pumping a couple of reseviors of fresh fluid through he system so that you 'change' the fluid,then when that's done,seal it all up and bungy the lever in against the grip overnight,this pressurises the fluid,opens the valve & allows any air to drift to the top Del

    Another excellent video. I'll be doing this on the weekend. Any tips for pumping new fluid through ABS brakes?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your ABS system, Niclas, if it's the hydraulic type with a central control unit, they have their own bleed valve... if it's the sensor wheel on the brake disc type, like late model Bandits, then it's electronic so just bleed up as usual, if in doubt, get yourself the right manual and check the system for your bike... good luck!

  • @trevtherev8658
    @trevtherev8658 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Del Thanks for the great videos it all makes sense with your just right explanations. Just wondering re ABS brake fluid replacement only? Is it any different compared to a non ABS system? As long as you make sure regarding no air ingress of course.
    Keep the great vids coming it saves many of us cash and more importantly gives us all much more confidence.

    Hello from the USA, your video by far the best for brake pads change, thank you very much.
    One question for me to change my pads only, do I need to worry about brake fluid overflow.
    It's confusing to me because the original pads fit at the same fluid level. Why would new pads change that. I understand it's more fluid travel, but it is no more than when the pads were new.
    ANY HELP WOULD PUT ME HEART AT EASE, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

      Hello John, ok it works like this... with fresh brand new fat brake pads your fluid reservoir should be filled up to the 'full' mark at the top of the glass... then as the pads wear down, the pistons have to push out further to operate them, so the fluid in the reservoir drops slightly... this is how it should be left... and never be 'topped up', because when you pistons back to fit brand new pads that fluid will return to it's original full level... but sometimes people incorrectly 'top up' their brake fluid reservoir as they think that it's necessary, then you have too much fluid in the system and when you push the pistons back to fit new pads, yes it can overflow so you should suck some out to make sure it doesn't overflow... and then with the new pads fitted, top up the fluid to the 'full' level and leave it that way. Hope that makes sense, good luck with it mate.

    Update: Nevermind :) You've explained it later in the video
    Just a note, when you push pads back at around 6:00 I'd recommend checking the brake fluid level in the reservoir. When the pistons are pushed back the level rises and if it was filled recently it could be hard to push pistons back as there will be no space in the reservoir. Also opening the reservoir will make it a bit easier :)

    Thanks for your generous support and kind encouragement my friend, it means a great deal and keeps us going... take care, Del.

    Brilliant video mate, top bloke! I've watched several tonight I can't thank you enough for clearing things up. Just wondered, I have a Honda Hornet 07 plate which means it has abs on - Do you know if this will be an issue? Cheers!

      Hi mate, if you are just replacing pads, then ABS makes no difference... try not to damage or disturb the ABS sensor on the front wheel, other than that it's the same... thanks for watching mate, plenty of other vids on our channel which may help you, Cheers Del

    Excellent tutorials. You've given me the confidence to tackle a lot of maintenance that I used
    to pay through the nose for. Plus it's simply hard to find good independent bike mechanic.
    Couple of quick questions. Red rubber grease? For or against :-)
    Thinking of swapping to braided hoses on my 2004 Speed Triple. Good idea?
    Keep up the great work. I'm hooked :-)

    great video Moonfleet41 Thanks for doing this!
    I was wondering do you have any video of changing the break lines to stainless steel ones? I'm thinking of changing the lines soon, my B12 is from 2004 and I don't think the lines have ever been changed...
    Thanks!

    Most certainly Sal, i get wjhat you mean and there has been a huge kick over that... people prefer the detail it seems, so i have spoken with the guys at Discovery and they felt the same too, aslo had lots of trouble editing them back and not loosing useful content.. so ill be filming some continuity clips for them shortly and they will use them to split the videos into two parts, that way the content will survive and still fit in.. problem solved.. thanks for your unput hun, take care, Del.

    Hi Delboy and Penny , just like to say a big Thanks for all your videos, I'm an avid watcher and newbie to bikes after 30 years on four wheels, your guy's are an inspiration. I know that you don't do videos on demand for obvious reason, there's a Bandit to complete, but wondered if you had any tips for freeing up the brake pins on the rear end of a 2000 Suzuki gsx600f. The pins mine are seized to buggery and don't want to shift, almost at the point of cutting them out and replacing them!!!!!!!
