I just discovered your TH-cam page while taking a break from trying to improve my sight reading. I badly sprained my finger reading through Bach's Art of Fugue Contrapunctus #1. I'm really a bad sight reader. But your work is absolutely mind boggling! I can actually hear Bach's counterpoint better because the animation is actually a representation of the music! And I notice you have taken to represent some voices as "closer" to the listener while traversing over instruments in the background. This is just amazing and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the work you are doing to "illuminate" the music for us.
Here are some things I wrote (or started to write) related to sight-reading: www.musanim.com/PlayingThePiano/PianoSkillAcquisition.html www.musanim.com/Tapper/KeyboardAttention.html (incomplete) www.musanim.com/mam/grabbag.htm www.musanim.com/fugueplaying/index.html
No words can describe the transcendent genius, cosmic in scope, being experienced here - sublime integration of music and visual imagery here - it feels like the stunning visual patterns are growing out of this immortal music as it is unfolding!💙💕🌟🎹🎵🎻
Absolutely love the Mass in B minor performance from the Netherlands Bach Society. Now I also love this gorgeous animation. Such a pleasure to listen by eyes and ears!
In case it's not immediately evident what I'm doing with the vocal lines: every note has a traversing dot, and the start of every syllable has a "mouth."
- I see a few comments that seem to nit-pick what colors go where, and who plays what, but I think it's beautiful musically and visually. Just my humble opinion.
I totally agree!! I 've always loved that Mass and your work on it is simply superb!!! If some day you decide to work on Gorecky's 3rd simphony, I'll be delighted. (Please forgive my English)👋👋
Have saved this to listen and watch again another time when my mood has changed. I admire what the Bach Society is doing; and I love your visualizations; and the B minor Mass is one of the truly great masterpieces of all music. But this time it all feels very precise, preciously articulated and soulless. Maybe just me being out of tune. Maybe.
@@smalin It's complicated - elements of key and timbre predominate, plus presence/absence of other stimuli. I really like what you do and always look forward to new postings
Bar 91, 1st beat, 2nd quaver. Sounds like there is a D# at 1st oboe. In F# minor, D# is the major 9th of the dominant chord. I don't know that version, it sounds off.
The visuals have become too amorphous and have no clear relationship with the music. If you study the synethesia of Scriabin in fusing light and color with music, perhaps you can achieve his goal of ending the earth in its current form, transcending this reality and ascending to a state of godhood along with all your listeners.
i think the music is too complex, with mutli voices and rich contrapoint to bring this music into complete visual realization...yet, it is quite nice to the eye and ear...
@@prager5046 Of course the music was great, but the visuals didn't work for me. I'm not a synesthete, though. My daughter is; maybe the colors would mean something to her. I was trolling, though, with the Scriabin stuff. Scriabin's music/color theory was mystical madness. He was a transcendent genius, but also a madman.
I’m sorry the visuals don’t work for you. To me (and to some of my viewers), they are getting richer and more meaningful. It’s unfortunate that this is at the expense of leaving some viewers behind, but I don’t see a viable alternative to following my own taste.
@@smalin Yep! You should definitely do what you enjoy. My parents ask me why all my piano music is so sad. Why not play happy music? Because happy music doesn't interest me--unless it is the savage joy one might feel after triumphant slaughter, or the respite of peace despite undercurrents of anguish like in Scriabin 42 5. Happy music nauseates me. I feel my joy when playing Chopin 10 6 lol. I gotta play music not everyone likes. Regardless, do you know about Scriabin's synesthesia and music/color theories? Anyway, I did like your older visuals of years past--but I don't think my taste is tied to simplicity vs. complexity...eh I dunno.
even those bass and tenor lines alone are just outlandishly beautiful.. 😵💫😵
Truly one of the greatest movements ever written :,) and one among the grandest fugues ever conceived

SHEER GENIUS!!!! BOTH, BACH & SMALIN!!!!!
Omg, I didn't see this upload until today. Already hyped for the godlike Confiteor.
Interesting approach to representing vocal lines... I like the whole thing very much!

A perfect choice for Bach’s birthday (using the O.S. date.) Many thanks for this sublime video.
Already played this 3 times ❤

Happy Birthday Bach.
I absolutely love this!
Wow...; greatness . Music and visualization Esteban :-) 👍🏼
Thank you, Paul. :-)
Waw! Thanks smalin ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for that!

Looks great, love the performance. Planning on doing any other movements?
I did the Agnus Dei a few years ago, but mostly I don’t make plans, so your guess is as good as mine.
Are other pieces in the Mass in B minor coming?
Love it!
Oh yeah baby
I like the visual art, but I think that for a piece so mindnumbingly complex you should have gone for something more conservative.
Agreed
Neat
I like the Visual stuff going around, but I feel like something is still missing.
Like what?

I am actually a synaesthete, and those colours aren't my colours - BUT it doesn't matter - this is an imaginative interpretation, and I enjoyed it!
If you were to apply colors to this piece based on your synesthesia, what would they be (that is: what exactly is your music/color association)?

7:50 I cannot believe that Bach wanted a major 9th at the oboes.
You mean the suspension?
@@smalin Yes.
@catherineden.374 Do you mean the G-natural in the first oboe against the F-sharp in the bass (I'm asking because that's a minor 9th)?

Wow
Not a huge fan of the tenors use of vibrato but love the performance overall.
