    I want to buy a camcorder but I can´t decide between this one or the Sony HDR CX-455, both are about the same price and have similar features, but the Panasonic has better zoon and the Sony better mic, which one do you recommend?

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no experience with the HDR CX_455, so I really can't compare. All I know is that for my purposes, the Panasonic V180 works very well. I think the mic is does a decent job. If you needed a much better mic, you could record audio on a separate recording device such as Digital Voice recorder and then line the tracks up in post editing. Here is a high rated one that would work well for this: amzn.to/2C3XO56

      Don't bother, pay a bit more and get the sony fdr-ax53 or 55.....you won't regret it.

    • @thejungleexplorer

      @@148busThe Sony fdr-ax53 is good camcorder but it cost five times as much as the Panasonic V180K at $998, and it only has a X20 optical zoom. The Panasonic V180K has a X50 optical zoom and only cost $200. So if a powerful zoom is what Luis Gama wants, then the V180K is the clear choice.

    Hi, did you process the video you shot in any way, wondering which format/frame rate you filmed in? For a budget camcorder design that is now a few years old it still looks quite good. Are you still using it in 2019? 😁

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi. No I did not enhance this video in anyway. However, TH-cam does compress the video when you upload it, So nothing on TH-cam looks as good as the original.
      Yes, I still am using this camcorder. It is a great camera that takes great video. Unless it breaks at some point, I won't buy another. Here is why. This camera has the best and longest zoom in an compact camera that money can buy. You can buy much better camcorders, but none of them will have a X50 optical zoom. You can buy cameras with a X50 zoom, but it won't be as good, or as compact. You can get a better camera with a greater optical zoom in a dlr, but you will need to be a body builder the use it and a backpack to carry it in.
      I bought this camera for one reason, long rang video. For its size and price, it is the best you can get in my opinion, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat if I needed one.
      Oh, it films in two formats, MP4 and AVC. They are both 1080p resolutions. The AVC files are larger in size than the MP4 files, but if the is a quality difference between them, it is undetectable to my eye. I think this footage was shot in the AVC format. Not sure though as it has been a couple years.

      @@thejungleexplorer thanks for the reply and all the information. This camera is one of the cheapest on the market here in the UK... I don't want to spend a fortune on a 4k camera or something so complicated that I never use it. Making some hobby related TH-cam videos, filming aircraft (airports), family vacations is what I will be recording etc... And if it gets lost/damaged then no real financial disaster... Final question, in your opinion.. Will this camera produce acceptable video in an indoor room, well lit with soft boxes etc? Im not expecting BBC studio quality.. Just video quality that will pass for TH-cam. 😊

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrRadiorobot This camera makes for an excellent TH-cam video. If you want the best possible, record in AVC format. It does not look different from the MP4 visually but turns out better after editing and youtube compression. Here is a video I made that is a lot more detailed and I think will give you some more good information. th-cam.com/video/1tYhflGLaN0/w-d-xo.html
      One of the main reasons I bought this particular camcorder was for improved low light capture. While it cannot compete with a full-frame DSLR, it smashes anything else I have used in its price range. I think you should have no troubleshooting in the studio with soft light. I use this budget lighting kit for my indoor shooting and it is great. amzn.to/2XbzqaB. With the money you save on the camera, I would certainly invest in something like this or better. Your next concern might be sound quality and I am going to answer you in advance on this. Here is a video review I did of a studio microphone kit and about minute 7:20 of the video I compare it to audio recorded on this V180 camcorder. th-cam.com/video/ozex2hyxXy8/w-d-xo.html This should give you a good example of the sound quality this camera produces. It is not bad as you will see.
      I wish you all the best and hope you do well. As for me, it looks like my days on YoutTube are numbered. My own federal government is now going after TH-cam creators and is threatening to fine us $42,000 for every video on our channel if Google shows a targeted ad to children that watch our video. Most Americans have no idea this is about to happen, but it is. Most American TH-camrs are already shutting down and getting ready to pivot off of TH-cam to a fee-based subscription platform. TH-cam as everyone knows it will end in two months when these changes take place. Here is a video I made explaining what is about to happen, later in the video I include video clips of a government official explaining what they are doing to TH-cam creators. It is not public yet as this is just a rough draft and I plan to remake it, but it will tell you what is coming. th-cam.com/video/_T8RPqZ4YT8/w-d-xo.html

      @@thejungleexplorer thank you so much for the extra info.. Very kind of you. Yeah the audio on the Camcorder is lacking in comparison to an outboard microphone.. However as you show, the option to add a high quality audio track to video is always there. When the camcorder is closer to the operator the audio is reasonable as in your zoom/mountain video. You purchased the same studio USB microphone that my son has acquired for his online gaming activities. Very well made product. Thank you for you advice Mr Jungle man.. I hope your concerns regarding federal interference with TH-cam never comes about.. I shall endeavour to follow the story. Cheers from the UK.

      Thank you for your support on the FTC ruling. I know the video I made is too long and maybe a little too impassioned. I need to remake it in a much shorter more concise manner. The problem is that I am older and have been around the block a few times. I see something in this FTC move that is really disturbing and it goes way beyond just TH-cam and child video content. If left unchallenged, it will eventually affect ALL user-created content online. As I tried to make clear in the video, everything requires finding. If people are afraid to create content because they fear being fined out of existence if a kid watches it and sees an ad, they will have only two choices, 1. Don't make any content and remove all the content you have made. 2. Not make any money off your content. Can you imagine what will happen to the internet if this goes forward? Without any incentive to create content (funding), online content will be reduced by 80 to 90%. That will affect everyone all around the world. Google is the largest online advertiser in the world. While the FTC cannot go after foreign content creators directly, they can tell Google to remove their content or shut their channels down, or even suppress their content. As the FTC made clear in the video, they are not stopping with TH-cam, but are going after every other platform as well. He also said, they will not be resting in their pursuit of online content creators. This is really huge and major game-changer that will affect everyone dramatically, and almost no one knows that it is happening.

    It's 90x optical not 60x. The marketing for this camera is confusing. The difference between 60x and 90x is the f-stop (f4.2 @ 90x). The resolution is still 1080p at 90x. Beyond 90x is digital zoom which you should avoid.

      Hi Sam. Thank you for contacting me for help. I believe I can help you. This camera records in two formats, AVCHD and MP4. You probably have it set to AVCHD. Your laptop should be able to play this format easily as it is a normal standard format. It may be the player you are using that cannot play it. I recommend that you download the free VLC Player as there is almost nothing that it will not play. However, you can change the recording format to MP4. Here is how.
      1. Open the LCD screen and wait for the camera to boot up.
      2. Tap the little opposite arrow icon with the three lines at the bottom left corner of the screen.
      3. Tap on the blue MENU icon.
      4. Tap on RECORD SETUP.
      5. Tap on REC FORMAT.
      6. Tap on MP4/iFrame to switch the camera to the MP4 format. and press EXIT.
      Just FYI. The AVCHD format is a much higher quality 1080P format than MP4.
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Iv'e had a look at the HC-V380 with wi-fi and this one and I can't see the purpose of having the wi-fi when you can just use ya phone cam anyway ? I think this has great zoom capabilities pretty amazing really do you know how long the battery lasts for filming ?

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. The specs say the battery life last about 2 hours and 30 minutes of continues recording. I have never done that much recording at one time, so I can say how accurate that estimate is, but the battery does last a good long time. Here is another video I just made of the HC-180V that you might be interested in. It has some great footage from Costa Rica. th-cam.com/video/1tYhflGLaN0/w-d-xo.html
      Many factors effect how long a battery last. How long the LCD screen is on and how much you use the zoom has a big effect on battery life. On the HC-180V you can start recoding and close the LCD screen and it will stay recording. Closing the door while recording does not stop recording or turn the camera off. This would greatly increase battery life. But since the camera has no optical viewfinder, you could only do this in a stable situation where the camera does not need to follow a moving subject. Hope this helps.

      My pleasure. Glad I can help. One thing you should consider though, before buying this camera, is that the technology in it is quite old. There is still no other camera on the market that I know of that can match the zoom capabilities of this camera, that is pocket size like this one. There are cameras with stronger zooms, but you can't put them in a breast shirt pocket like you can with this one. However, the video quality of this camera is no match for the quality of video you get out of more modern devices. The video technology we have today simply did not exist back when this camera was engineered. So, this is something you need to consider. I still think that camera is awesome, though, and I still use it.

      @@thejungleexplorer Yes, I hear you, but you 'd probably believe me that I purchased one of those (4k camcorder, polaroid) 2022,and I had to return ir. zoom is only 18x and half way you start seeing grainy video already.
      It took decent pictures, but the zoom was horrendous. I think there would be a lot of people like me who wouldn't mind getting a camcorder that is not very modern or upgraded.
      For 1080p resolution with that zoom I had to get me one myself, and your video is the reason why I just purchased this camcorder.
      I just hope I can still find battery replacement available.😁

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Nikon P1000 is an amazing camera but it cost 5X more than the Panasonic V180. The thing that makes the V180 such a good deal is it's size. You can carry it in you shirt pocket. Even though it is outdated by today's standards, it still remains unchallenged for it size and featured. 50x Optical Zoom and a 5 Axis stabilization in a camera that you can carry in you shirt pocket or use as a body cam. All for $200. No one else has even tried to compete with it. This why it is still being built and sold. If Panasonic ever upgrades the device to 4X, I am buying it on day one.

      Jungle Explorer I just bought one for the heck of it. Can't beat the price. The optical zoom is what I like. Don't really need 4k and most people couldn't see the difference anyway.

    • @thejungleexplorer
      @thejungleexplorer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. Can't beat it for the price. I use it all the time and it produces great video for my purposes. I have 4K equipment, but I never film in 4K because it just isn't worth it. It consumes massive amounts of data and the quality just really does not come through once you render it down and upload it to TH-cam. I prefer to film in a high quality 1080p format, with 4K equipment, because it make better 1080p video for youtube. TH-cam is weird. A good quality video on your computer ends up looking like garbage on youtube. So you have to capture amazing quality 1080p video for it to look good once you upload it to youtube. If you set the HC-V180 to video in AVC format at 1080p res and at 30 frames, this footage will look really good once uploaded to youtube.

      Jungle Explorer I bought mine off of Amazon, the language was set to Chinese I think and the date and time were already set, appears that it had been used. The manual is lacking, so took me awhile looking at Chinese lettering to find the correct menu to change to English. Smaller than I had expected, but perfect for my needs, which will be too video wildlife, storms, etc.

      Hummm... Did you contact Amazon about it or the Seller ypu bought it from? I would do that. Amazon is pretty good at replacing things that do not match the description. If you paid for a new camera, you should get a new camera. I would make them replace it with a new one.
      Yeah, it is tiny and light. It is so convenient. The video quality is great even out to 90X zoom. The mic is much better then the mic on my 4K SJcam SJ7 Star action camera.
