It's a compression lock, created by the creator of Spyderco. One of the strongest lock designs there is. You actually need to crush the liner between the pivot and the pin to make it fail.
Works great for me. Been using for a few months now and no issues. The Atomic is way less bulky than either of the other DeWalt options and the Milwaukee as well.

There is a little more blade edge exposed.
This would be a good general purpose camp knife!
