In 2012, Desmond Miles is kidnapped by agents of Abstergo Industries, the world's largest pharmaceutical conglomerate & is taken to their headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Under the supervision of Dr. Warren Vidic & his assistant Lucy Stillman, Desmond is forced to relive the early years of Altair Ibn-La'Ahad using a machine called an Animus, which can translate his ancestors' genetic memories into a simulated reality.
In 1191, Altair & his comrades, Malik Al-Sayf and his brother Kadar Al-Sayf, are sent to Solomon's Temple beneath Jerusalem to retrieve a strange artifact before their sworn enemies, The Knights Templar.
However, Altair botches the mission, which results in Kadar's death & The Knights Templars launching an attack on Masyaf Castle & even after Altair later partially redeems himself by fighting off the Templars, Al Mualim, Altair's mentor & superior denounces him as a traitor & sentences him to death.
