I'm really glad it added a 5th trophy. The game was just too short before. I do agree that the special abilities are convoluted. It took a while to explain them before starting the game and with a kid's game this can be a problem.
After getting to know this expansion I think it refines the game more than Tom says. It makes the Seek action more useful, and it adds a 5th trophy without extra play time. I don't always play with the special abilities, but I always use the rest
I watched this even thuogh I have already ordered the game. Anyway, I like the idea that the ships helps you get 4 reseources to the castle, I felt like those victories were never worth going for.
I know this game is aimed at kids, but it has enough depth to hold its own as a gateway game for players who can't handle regular Scythe, but can still handle games like Ticket to Ride. Seems this expansion takes it up just a little bit more with slightly more to do and some asymmetry. Thanks for the review!
Agree completely, I really say this is a "family" game not strictly a "kids" game. My wife and I played this before regular Scythe and it really helped in making feel Scythe seem less overwhelming because the core concepts are the same.
Great review, its good you pointed out its not required. The components look awesome, as you pointed out!

Really? They're the first ones we seem to go for.
On the plus side, eating a pie is better than eating a shoe, right Tom? :)
Those are fightin' words! Hilarious, perfect inside joke.

Not mentioned: this expansion is currently only 20$ US which is pretty affordable.
