  • Contractions or "élisions" in French have a very specific role, to keep a good flow of pronunciation. It happens when a noun / verb / preposition / ... starts with a vowel, then the article / adverb / pronoun / ... will lose its last vowel and take an apostrophe. Watch the video for all the examples 🙂

    Dear Dylane, thank you for this wonderful material and your wonderful way of teaching. I have been learning Haitian Kreyòl for about 5 years and finally felt ready to steadily learn French. I do have some more specific questions about the path I could best take under your teaching and hope to communicate with you more directly. Please advise. Thank you

    Merci beaucoup, Dylane, pour present la theorie de le francais. Alors nous pouvons connaitre le “pourquoi” de la langue francais. In other words, just learning to speak, in whatever way one learns, comes first, then follows the “theorie.” C’est ma pensé.

    Dylane you are simply the best!!! I am so happy i found you and i will stay for sure! Got all your books and so looking forward to study them! You make it so easy and enjoyable - thank you. I have a question re DOP: how do you know when to use LA and LE when linking the DOP with the verb in a sentence, or how would you know if the elision was created from LE or LA? Thank you

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Grace :) There will be an elision when the verb starts with a vowel. See the examples below
      Je la mange - No elision
      Je l'écoute - Elision
      I hope it helps :)

    Now, my drive to and from my office is a good 45 minutes each way; is your audio effective for just listening and repeating?
    Naturally, I'd prefer to see your countenance but, definitely not when behind the wheel!😁

    Dylane, while studying your Complete Pronunciation Course in page 15, I noticed in the last section of Que and Variations that the first example is mistakenly wrong:
    Que Que + est = Qu'il. Did you mean Que + il ?

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it definitely should be Qu'il, not qu'est! I will correct it tonight on the book. Merci :)

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Simply because it's only the last letter that will be replaced by the apostrophe.
      Que = Qu'
      Me = M'
      You are confused because you think that we use MOI in your example, but it's actually ME 😉

    hi. I have a question, these contractions are informal like in English? Or the French grammar is different ?

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are regular French grammar. Informal would "t'as" - "J'vais" etc, and only happen when speaking 🙂
