***** well the reason why he retired from the wizards is because, I dont know if you remembered when he dove on the floor and busted his chin for that loose ball while everyone else, who was in their early 20 s stood around and watch! Plus his role was a lot different because he was much older. You might say he scored this and scored that, but the points were different still. When he was younger he dominated on both ends of the floor and dominated at critical times in the game. With the wizards he couldn't do it on both ends like that, at 40 he really became what your best player would be at 27 or 30. So with that being said he didnt have enough to get them over the hump at that age in his career! And besides they pair all your best players up on one team now days and called them great, at least he still didn't do that!

I swear words can barely describe how good Jordan was. I mean I’ve played high school and college ball here in Quebec, I’ve played in various leagues, I’ve seen some great players, hell I was a great player, but Jordan lol And what makes him so great was his tenacity. Just there was no let up, every game, every play, was like his last. He played like his life depended on it lol Just you don’t see that drive and will, anywhere. He was big, 6’6, lean, could run like a Gazelle, had big hands, super athletic, and again, the tenacity. So much energy. I doubt we’ll see another like him, well maybe.

See, LeBron? A year after MJ started losing his hair he went all the way bald and got out in front of it. Lose the enormous headband and accept the baldness, man.
Watching some of these early Detroit vs Chicago games you see exactly why the Pistons created the Jordan Rules defense. Along with this game he had a couple huge scoring games against the Pistons. The Jordan Rules were the only thing they could do to slow him down. Just amayzing to watch.
zasetko hard competition made Michael up his game to heights that may never be seen again. Michael has everything needed as an individual and was born in the best competitive era. It was the pinnacle of basketball. Michael is a super rare human and even rarer athlete.
Did they actually know or understand what they were witnessing?? I know Dr J had already been but something this special with fundamentals is unreal!!!
Born and raised in Chitown and I remember watching this game live, what a awesome game and even better beating the hated Pistons.God how I miss the NBA on CBS with Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown, still was great even with Billy Cunningham sitting in for Hubie. This was basketball at it's very best, todays NBA is so fucking unwatchable. I feel bad for all the young kids today!
Jordan would be even more unstoppable in today's game. With the current rules against hand-checking, in his prime he would average 45 PPG. Defenses were far tougher and more physical in Jordan's era. Night and day compared to today's game. The Pistons team in this video that he lit up for 59 points was one of the greatest - and dirtiest - defensive teams ever.
Its not his fault..just thank the man for putting the sport into another level..thats just another reason why nobody can top jordan..besides even now 2020 there still no one that play the finesse of a michael jordan.

what's interesting is that jordan can win with simplest moves and abuse it over and over, that's great he was. he got better as he got older, I'm still in shock that he scored 50 points at the age of 38 or 39 at 6'6" with the wizards. that's insane
Why would you be in shock?People that watched him during his career werent the least bit surprised and laugh at people who were surprised. Lets not forget the 3 years before the wizards he was retired. Not sure what being 6'6 has to do with him scoring 50 at age 39

MJ was also the most underrated passer in history. Just because he could score at will people overlook his passing ability.Passing ability is something that assists numbers dont show unless your lazy.
Jordan's hand the fundamentals down to a tee. He is the man all players should model their game after. Despite his areal assault, he had the fundamentals down.
Those last two free throws are highly overlooked. That’s a clutch player. No need for a deep 3 or a drive to score to be clutch. Just be there when you’re most needed and that’s what this guy mj was
Exactly any time you needed a big play, didn't matter if it was a rebound, a steal, a block or simply hitting a free throw down the stretch. Mike was always there to make a big play. The guy is the definition of clutch!
It's not a dernigrating term - a 'garbage player' is a player who regularly only comes off the bench when the game is already decided, to give the better players a rest down the stretch. This is called 'garbage time'. You will rarely see a garbage player appearing in the first half, that's what the commentator meant. He didn't mean he was a shitty player.
No. A garbage player is a guy who scored the ball without being the guy who plays were called for. Someone who got buckets with tip ins, put backs, etc. Cedric Ceballos was an All Star on the Lakers in the mid 90's playing that kind of game.
5:53 air jordan!! I love how MJ does a dunk with all that lift and barely got a reaction from the commentators. Just imagine how many highlights they probably had already seen from MJ at this point of his career

@davemartino5997 Yah guy, Jordan looks like he's having so many problems scoring on the Pistons. The only thing they changed is being able to body-check Jordan out of mid air. Like this rules changes were the reason he couldn't get passed the Pistons. The year before he got passed the Pistons he took Detroit to 7 games. The Bulls were on the rise, his teammates finally caught up and the Pistons got spanked!!!

It's funny how people say he didn't have a jumper when he came in the league. His jumper was deadly from like 87 on, after he missed almost the whole '86 season. Most of the people talking reckless didn't even see him play at all.
He was at that time. He did more of his damage as the game went on. As he got older, Jordan would score in bunches, often scoring huge in the first quarter, reversing the old trend.
@@APOCALYPSE_X-MEN That was the evolution of Michael Jordan. During his athletic peak, he drove to the basket and averaged 10 free throws a game. When he got older, he picked his spots and relied on the fadeaway jumper which became his unstoppable weapon. I think he was more harder to guard between 1995 through 1998 because of his lethal jumper and post game.
@@APOCALYPSE_X-MEN I was going to say the same thing. He did the most damage at the worst times for his opponents... that's what made playing him so demoralizing.
@@meharinationsportspodcast2582 true also....he developed that jumper because of how physical the Eastern Conference was back then. The Celtics, Knicks, Pistons, Hawks, Bucks, Cavs all played a physical brand of basketball....he got tired of it and became probably the best midrange shooter ever in basketball.
And look where it got him.. So what if he "tried", if I were to "try" to imitate Jordan and get 5 rings then shit I'd do it too. Still a hall of famer.
Kobe very wisely emulated an older version of MJ because Kobe knew there was no way to emulate MJ's early athleticism because that was down to genetics.
What can you say? He's the best baketball player I've seen play in my life, period. In this particular time of his career he was Godlike...he had a very self-centered game, true, but that's also as Doug Collins saw it the best way to coach the GOAT. Difficult to criticize imho. They had poor team around MJ and besides that he had still to understand that without a more team oriented game you don't win rings. I guess there weren't many other options for that bulls' squad. Anyway... what a joy to watch =) Only player that reminded me a bit of MJ's style has been D Wade. This is what I saw throughout more than 30 years watching basketball (I've instinctively quit around 2010, after the first GSW stint, before KD). He had similar level of dominance over defenders, perfect fundamentals, excellent Jumper shots selection and efficiency, crazy skills driving to the basket, athletic ability, balance and use of space, off the ball game, intelligence... Not saying Wade was same level as MJ, I am saying top Wade of career was close in style and elegance and efficiency. Much much more than Kobe has ever been imho. But D Wade played at that level only for a couple of seasons ...and that makes all the difference in the world.

Watching some of these early Detroit vs Chicago games you see exactly why the Pistons created the Jordan Rules defense. Along with this game he had a couple huge scoring games against the Pistons. The Jordan Rules were the only thing they could do to slow him down. Just amayzing to watch.
"Michael Jordan is known to be a slow starter." SCORES IMMEDIATELY.
look at it this way Jordan had to beat the best NBA players of all time to become the best ever... :)
zasetko hard competition made Michael up his game to heights that may never be seen again. Michael has everything needed as an individual and was born in the best competitive era. It was the pinnacle of basketball. Michael is a super rare human and even rarer athlete.
The foul at 6:39 where Isiah pushes MJ in the back when he's up in the air would be a Flagrant 1 or possibly even 2 today.
men , Jordan was so Quicker , he was very fast by then , i remember watching those games specialy in the playoffs against detroit
Did they actually know or understand what they were witnessing??
I know Dr J had already been but something this special with fundamentals is unreal!!!
thanks 4 putting that out there its great 2 see a classic game like that
m.j. had a killer fade away
I can't help thinking the reason he's good is because he was ahead of his time.
***** how about you go back to school first? What I said was a compliment to Jordan.
Its not his fault..just thank the man for putting the sport into another level..thats just another reason why nobody can top jordan..besides even now 2020 there still no one that play the finesse of a michael jordan.
Skills to pay the bills. Skills to pay EVERYONE'S bills lol.
Got that right.
1. 59 pts w/o a single three pointer against one of the best defenses ever
2. Perfect defense with extreme energy expenditure in the last three plays
3. Still makes clutch two free throws without a sweat
GOAT
5:59 Air Jordan’s “Lean In” that will never get old... the unstoppable GOAT that aliens couldn’t even defend...
Michael Jordan in 1987-88 35.0 points 5.5 rebounds 5.9 assists 3.2 steals 1.6 blocks scored 40 or more points 18 times scored 50 or more points 4 times ASG MVP NBA MVP Defensive Player Of The Year Slam Dunk Champion
Amazing
Scoring leader and DPoY!
I was a huge Jazz fan
No more typing necessary
All while Pippen averaged 7.9 and was zero factor.
what's interesting is that jordan can win with simplest moves and abuse it over and over, that's great he was. he got better as he got older, I'm still in shock that he scored 50 points at the age of 38 or 39 at 6'6" with the wizards. that's insane
Why would you be in shock?People that watched him during his career werent the least bit surprised and laugh at people who were surprised. Lets not forget the 3 years before the wizards he was retired. Not sure what being 6'6 has to do with him scoring 50 at age 39
I remember my brother & I watching this on my black & white TV in my room. Classic moments!!
The game that led Chuck Daly to establish "The Jordan Rules".
..2019 who's watching?. that's how simple the basketball the old days, but MJ23 makes it beautiful and amazing... just a jump shot and a relentless shooting... #GOAT..
best shoes ever made on his feet in this.
The Goat of sports and entertainment thanks for everything m.j.forever we love you brother ur torch will always stay lit for the whole world to see you in this life time and the after life time god is the greatest
I counted 14 jumpers vs just 1 dunk and they say MJ didnt get a shot until the 90s
MJ was also the most underrated passer in history. Just because he could score at will people overlook his passing ability.Passing ability is something that assists numbers dont show unless your lazy.
I grew a mullet after listening to that intro music.
Jordan's hand the fundamentals down to a tee. He is the man all players should model their game after. Despite his areal assault, he had the fundamentals down.
There's no "I" in team, but there's an "I" in "Mike." GOAT!
psainterlude there's also an "I" in win! MJ did that very well!
But those 88' 3's tho
Jordan was the best on offense and the best on defense the goat
2:47 rough commentator, you'd never hear that being said so upfrontly by one today.
Probably "garbage man" a term used for a player who only scores off of offensive rebounds.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 Cliff Levingston was a garbage player also.
i think that no one will ever be like Jordan.he will remain as the best player GOD ever created.
you're looking at an innovator in action nobody before him played like this nobody after him played like this
5:53 air jordan!! I love how MJ does a dunk with all that lift and barely got a reaction from the commentators. Just imagine how many highlights they probably had already seen from MJ at this point of his career
32 points in the first half on like 15-17 FG iirc. Amazing. Dude was on fire.
There's lots of footage not recorded onto the Jordan archive mixtape that ppl watch. They need to make another one to see more different footage of him dominating the 80s
Dude is a BEAST!
G.O.A.T Bow to greatness!!
Dem graphics at the beginning lol.
*Them you dumbass
I miss those old graphics and that great CBS theme music. CBS had better NBA coverage than either NBC or ABC had later.
I smell a GOAT in the making!!!
Nah, that aroma was in the air for over twenty years
I call the NBA today flag basketball.
I am a Pistons fan but Michael Jordon was and will be the best for a while.
Like Larry Bird said years ago "Jordan is just God disguised as Michael Jordan"
That song brings back so much great memories...
this game was the one that forced the jordan rules to be developed
yup... lebron sucks to watch in comparison... this year, i'd rather watch anthony davis, steph curry, or even jimmy buckets over him (im obviously from chicago)
***** that is 1000000000 % true Mj is the greatest of all time not would he gotten 59 easy in todays game he lock down the other teams best player dudes dont play both ends of the court the way he did in his prime
Phenomenal play from Jordan
"A Win, Thats All We Wanted.."
Mj has the best midrange game ever . Most of his jumpers hit net only. Watching him it’s so often you think this guy is the perfect player like what can’t he do. He gets what he wants when he wants no matter what basically . Never gets old watching mj highlights damn 🐐
MJ get tougher because of the Pistons but the Pistons push also him to make more confidence at his teammates and to make them more involved in the game so they can win as a team, thank you the Pistons for making a championship's team!😎
No mj had the league change the rules so he could beat Detroit. Lucky they didn’t have to play the Celtics as they got swept twice ! !
That move Isiah did on Wes Matthews during the intro was classic and sweet
I dont know how many time i switch my TV from a Miami heat game to NBA classics.Because i am sick and tired of the referree blew his whisle every second.
It's funny how people say he didn't have a jumper when he came in the league. His jumper was deadly from like 87 on, after he missed almost the whole '86 season. Most of the people talking reckless didn't even see him play at all.
Taking over a game not cherry picking like James .
he also led the league in steals this year with almost 4 a game!
Did that guy really say Michael Jordan is known to be a slow starter?
Michael Jordan is gold!
Sorry, Kobe. You tried to imitate his Airness, but there ain't nothing like the real thing.
Since when did Kobe try to "imitate" his airiness??
And look where it got him.. So what if he "tried", if I were to "try" to imitate Jordan and get 5 rings then shit I'd do it too. Still a hall of famer.
+skills1ent facts
airjordan4ever kobes first 3 rings were from shaq, he was the Scottie pippen of the lakers
Anyway... what a joy to watch =)
Only player that reminded me a bit of MJ's style has been D Wade.
