One of the most disturbing things about this song is that it shows (what I assume is) Opal’s dad running away from his drunk wife while desperately trying to dial 911, but getting caught and bashed in the head repeatedly until he’s the disfigured person we see in “Mirror Man”.
Maybe he have like a scar or something like that and that’s why he is so possessed to try to cover his face and be perfect but also in the song “mirror man “ he say “they reject me and now I living my nigmare “ so maybe he is abusive and the police or in general people reject him .
I think what the mother meant by “hold her hair” is that when she barfs from drinking so much alchohol, (her being an alcoholic) she needs Opal to hold her hair as she throws up.
You're probably the first person on this comment section that is not saying that they both, have a mother like claire's, and are certain she is by far the most abusive, talking from experience Old Version First person commenting on her that doesn't have a mother like claire and is absolutely certain she's by far the most abusive

This song reminds me of my mother. She’s into drugs and is very mean when high on cocaine but at the same time says “I miss you” and “I love you, do you love me?” And it’s so difficult because it leaves you feeling hurt and anger sometimes and the other times you feel guilty because you can no longer feel love or empathy for the person.
When your parent gets high, you might feel a bit scared, Maybe if they might hurt you, Or they might overdose. If my mother did, I would b very scared.

I'm not sure which of Opal/Claire's family is the best/least bad, but I can definitely say the mom is the worst. She literally expects her young daughter to take care of her instead of the other way around, not to mention showing an especially strong victim complex if what she says before the song is anything to go by.
And there’s the part where she says “I feel terrible for all the things…” like she’s about to apologise and then she says “I feel terrible” directing the attention back to her and playing the victim again.
But it is heavilly implied she has depression and substance abuse issues, which can cause feelings of helplessness/lithargy and clouded judgement, respectively? I don’t think this condones anything at all, but her issues are technically caused by the Grandpa and her husband, who probably abused her in a similar way to claire before she was born? It is also implied that the father is a narcissist, and the grandfather nihilistic because he is dying anyway. I don’t exactly buy that she was the only one abused, though. The parents seem to be abusive to the father abused the mother emotionally and physically, the mother abused the father psychologically and physically. The grandfather also appears to be neglected by the rest of the family, as well as Claire(which isn’t supprising, considdering the elderly can also be neglected by family members)Which only made his nihihism, smoking, escapism via television worse. That entire family is damaged and broken in their own ways, and to only point out one person as being somehow worse or better than the others is just taking on your own abuser mindset.😔🙄🧐😒
Oh, um sorry if that was to long, I just don’t like when people degrade one member of an entirely dysfunctional family, and blame everything on them. This is caused the “Black Sheep” or “Lightning Rod” dynamic, it actually exists, especially in households where there was a narcissist present. This was the most disturbing song for me out of anything I have ever heard. My mom wasn't the most pleasant to be around, its more than emotional manipulation in this type of scenario, its the part where she goes "Mama needs" because as a child all you want to do is be able to help. She always starts a line with those two words so Claire will feel the need to help her, to always come back. Its a vicious cycle that sometimes the only way out is by someone else taking you away from that. It doesn't matter how many disturbing, or scary films I will ever see, this to me is the scariest because of that fact that this has and will happen to young children.

I have a theory: The mother is actually the hyper lady from a shop pop opera right before the song coffe there. The lady was before the lady became this mother.
But the hyper lady said this: "Wait.... Is that clock right? Oh my god,i forgot to pick up my *son* from daycare" or something like that. Cool theory, though!
I was scared shitless when I first saw the mother in Opal, so every time her eyes rolled back I was like "YES, SHE'S FINALLY DEAD" only for her to start sining or rambling again.
This song really resonates with me, I have a emotionally abusive mom who is mentally unstable and expects me to always be there for her and basically be her therapist, despite how awful she treated me and always guilt trips me by bringing up the fact she's my mother
Never feel guilty. You didn’t ask to be born. It is your mother’s obligation to be a good mother for deciding to have you. And don’t feel bad about that either because it was HER choice. She shouldn’t be using “I gave birth to you” as an excuse because you are a valid human being with emotions who is still growing and shouldn’t be carrying the weight she wants to put onto you.
to be honest, with adding to Los Shitpostings' reply, it makes sense for no one to really sing or bring up this song because of the non-catchy-ness, and the unsettling feel and meaning. it's also too short for most people to really remember, and throughout my first few listens of this song, i couldnt even understand what she was saying. but i think thats what jack was trying to do. the song is supposed to be this little tune the mother sings to herself; not an upbeat catchy track like the other two. its meant to sound eerie and quiet, and since the mom's intoxicated, she sort of mumbles the lyrics and changes the way she sings very sporadically.
My mom was a alcoholic and verbally, mentally and physically abused me a lot throughout my upbringing. It got worse after her relationship with my step dad fell apart and we lived alone. The mix of pure rage, guilt tripping, complete sadness to asking me and my brothers if we still loved her. I hated her for so long. Understanding more of her traumatic background gave me some sense of closure over it. I mean I literally witnessed her being physically assaulted by my step dad before we moved out. I still love her and wish she was still alive. The trauma of it all feels like a burden no one should go through. I'm 29 and it still affects me. I gaslighted myself as a teenager believeing it was normal and she was just more emotional than other parents. What kills me is we never actually had a conversation over it all. I'll never get any real closure over why she held so much hate towards me and my brothers. I'm a alcoholic but I only drink at night when everyone's asleep and it's just beers or four lokos. I don't just rage out at my kids in the middle of the night. I have so many memories of being woken by her just screaming over the most random things. Being told how much hated us, wishing she miscarried, hoping she would die so she wouldn't have to spend another day with us. So much hatred and we all still loved and cared for her regardless. I really wish I could have seen who she actually was without alcohol influencing her. Gotten to know her before she past. The worst thing about loving someone toxic and abusive regardless of the reasons is how much of your value or any real sense of identity is lesened as a individual I have no real sense of identity and just create false selfs based on what I feel and think. I don't know what real love is or any concept of being treated as anything less than. Pain shouldn't be weaponize against a helpless kid who just wants to be loved and see her happy. It doesn't feel fair to exist like this. I envy everyone so much. So tired of feeling negative emotions and pain
this person lasted in my memory for so long.. this song and claire's mom face just come together so well. this woman reminds me a lot of someone, but idk who, i have a really strong feeling, that i know her A LOT. ngl it kinda concernes me..
un popular opinion. this is my fav song outta all three. Just the atmosphere. and the feeling of dread and that part comes on. AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A NORMAL SONG A MOTHER WOULD SING TO HER CHILD. THIS IS AMAZING. Mirrorman was also pretty good on showing the dads personality on how he ignored Claire. But this one is just the perfect song for the mother. how it seems like a normal lullaby in the start. but the true personality and violent temper is made into a scream and more dramatic things. This captures what she really is. A violent alhocil (sorry if I messed that up) Mother.
fun fact: usually drug addicts start to look like this, Usually they might have red marks near their neck, I'm not sure why. Their forehead size for some reason increases.
It isn't the forehead that's getting bigger it's the hairline receding because they pull their hair out, same with the red marks on the neck, they're hurting themselves.😊
Imagine feeling bugs crawling under your skin. Some use drugs that make you hallucinate so delusions like that cause them to harm themselves picking at it
This song is so scary. She reminds me of my mother a lot. My mom is an alcoholic, and she often goes on self-pitiying rants while drunk. She also breaks dishes sometimes. Although my mother isn't physically abusive, as this mother is hinted to be through this short, she really reminds me of my own. My mother is also super skinny and has thin hair like this. Just looks so much like her as well. Freaky.
Lyrics: Mama needs little girl to lend on mama needs little girl to fall in her arms mama needs mamas girl to take good care Mama needs a baby girl to hold her hair (Crazy music) Then start over
The mother is definitely the scariest character in my opinion. Her appearance, the implications of her physical abuse towards her husband and daughter, the way she wouldnt let go of Claire/Opal and when Claire/Opal tries to run she throws an empty bottle at her. Her song is the most ominous too. Her song is creepier while 'easy to breathe' and 'mirror man' are more upbeat.
this is by far the most disturbing and morose of all the songs featured in Opal, I rarely listen to it just because the atmosphere of pure despair is too much to take, it's like watching The Ascent (1977) & Morvern Callar (2002) back to back
My mother wasn't the nicest, she never did any drugs or alcohol at least. Sorta reminds me of her, even she acted like a victim. It makes me extra sad about the dad and Claire...
i interpret this song about claire’s mother that is mentally unstable is unable to take care of claire but also is unable to take care of herself so she depends heavily on claire because she has no other places to hang onto. most likely suffering an drug addiction and is dumping all her problems to claire
anyone with a drug addict mother will understand this song more then anyone. my mom has always been there only when she needed me, i was the child but she was the one falling into my arms and i was the one holding her hair when she threw up
I hate how she says “mama needs ______” like she’s trying to sound kind, and soft, and not threatening when really she’s an abuser, physically and emotionally. She’s the worst by far I think.
shes 100% the worst. also, the implied abuse towards the dad, which leads to his face being permanently disfigured and him becoming insecure of his actual face, adds a whole new layer. the grandpa and dad just didnt pay much attention to claire, while the mom was an abuser, and i wouldn’t doubt that the abuse extends towards claire as well.
I feel like the dad deserves to get help because he seems the best of the three, simply wanting to talk to her while on the contrary of the mother who acts like the victim and is very dangerous when drunk and the grandfather seems a bit abusive It’s a feeling The father got hurt and disfigured BECAUSE of the mother and even tried to get her to the police because of how abusive she was The father is paranoid and he just needs to understand that his looks are not as bad as he thinks The mother needs jail
The mom is the worst in the family, she abuses her husband, uses her daughter to feel pity for her even though it’s her fault, and is probably the reason grandpa doesn’t go upstairs.
My mom did drugs and alcohol and she abused me and my siblings so i listen to this when I miss her she was sick when she did this and told my dad he could take me and leave or leave me and my mammaws house
Ok so I’m gonna assume you didn’t see the thing so I’ll put a spoiler warning here if you want to see and dissect it for yourself Opal isn’t actually our protagonist’s name, the name is Claire, she has a neglectful family with an Addicted grandfather, a narcissistic father, and a alcoholic mother. Every day Claire would go into the attic and imagine having a better family, where her name would be Opal and they would eat Burgers together, of course, none of this will happen with her real family. Her grandfather yells at her for hiding his cigarettes, even though he coughs up blood whenever he smokes. Her father stops her wherever she goes to talk about himself and his appearance, talking down to Claire with obvious passive aggression. Her mother is the worst of them all, an alcoholic and drug addict, and the one that disfigured her husband, which is why he cares about his looks so much. Claire’s mom depends on her, Claire is the one that holds Mother’s hair from her face as her body expels all of the alcohol and pills. Claire is also hinted at being physically abused by her mother as well. Sorry I just killed the mood didn’t I
Mama needs a little girl to land oon, Mama needs a little gIRl to fall in her ARms, Mama nheeds a Mama's girl to take. Good care. *M* Mama neeeds a bAby girl to hold her hair.
Like another commenter said, i feel the flashback is her in a drunken rage and the mirror man(dad) is trgting to call 911 but gets caught and gets mutilated
My theory is that the father is an abusive manipulative narcissist, and there was some terrible event that occured by him that causes the mother to use drugs and alcohol to cope. That's why she says Claire is a lot like her, and that the two of them don't live, they survive, because they're both mistreated and abused and cope with it in different ways, i.e.: drugs and alcohol for the mom VS delusions of a different life for Claire
It wouldn't surprise me in the least that the father is just as toxic as she is towards her, however when the camera zooms into her eyes, the visual imagery implies that the mother was on a drunken rampage and physically scarred the father's face as he tried to call emergency services. It's only speculation, but as for the "we don't live, we survive" line, I kind of got the impression she was referring to society itself, and its treatment of poverty, it's treatment of women, as well as mental illness or disabilities in general. More unsettlingly, that the mother was telling Claire that she's going to end up EXACTLY like her.
I had a friend (who I’ll call M) who’s mom was like this (The friend didn’t live with their mom but her mom still had contact since M lived with her Grandparents) her mom was a alcoholic and a drug addict who would use M as a therapist. But unlike this Ms story has a happy ending Her mom got alot of rehab and (from what I heard) is doing alot better and lives with M and the grandparents :)

This is my favorite im surprised its not that popular put of the others:)
I'm not xP I'm not saying it's a bad song, but it's not as "catchy" as the others.
@@jaumesillozzo But we cannot doubt that it is the scariest
to be honest, with adding to Los Shitpostings' reply, it makes sense for no one to really sing or bring up this song because of the non-catchy-ness, and the unsettling feel and meaning.
it's also too short for most people to really remember, and throughout my first few listens of this song, i couldnt even understand what she was saying.
but i think thats what jack was trying to do. the song is supposed to be this little tune the mother sings to herself; not an upbeat catchy track like the other two. its meant to sound eerie and quiet, and since the mom's intoxicated, she sort of mumbles the lyrics and changes the way she sings very sporadically.
I think the reason is because is almost nothing of the song i mean she says mama needs 4 times and later is like just a scream and then ends
It barely even qualifies as a song
I'm sorry you had to go through all of that
this person lasted in my memory for so long.. this song and claire's mom face just come together so well. this woman reminds me a lot of someone, but idk who, i have a really strong feeling, that i know her A LOT. ngl it kinda concernes me..
That's pretty scary tbh
Ok, maybe I shouldn't have taken those pills earlier
should have gave them to mother like a good child

This song brings back so much PTSD but it's so good
un popular opinion. this is my fav song outta all three.
Freaky.
Lyrics:
Mama needs little girl to lend on
mama needs little girl to fall in her arms
mama needs mamas girl to take good care
Mama needs a baby girl to hold her hair
(Crazy music) Then start over
This lady and Clay Puppington would have a lot to talk about! Narcissism, self-loathing and alcoholism are a deadly combo!
.......Can this even be considered a song if it disturbs me so? Lol Jk cuz low-key Jack is hella talented
You… basically just discribed art.
very creepy. word
It's explaining trauma, and addiction, that is in my opinion
What “momma” needs is a 12 steps program, sober living, and if she fails that, a jail sentence.
yes I love this
The mother is definitely the scariest character in my opinion. Her appearance, the implications of her physical abuse towards her husband and daughter, the way she wouldnt let go of Claire/Opal and when Claire/Opal tries to run she throws an empty bottle at her. Her song is the most ominous too. Her song is creepier while 'easy to breathe' and 'mirror man' are more upbeat.

she makes me think about my mom
I should visit more often
Thinking of my dad.......nah😊😊😊😊
If she's like this, then no you don't
This is one of the best made videos I’ve ever watched.
It’s also one of my least favorite videos I’ve ever watched.
The other songs 🔥🤟🏻✨🕺
This one: …
Ciclo vicioso
Fun fact: When people get drunk, they lower the volume of their voice and increase it in moments and moments
This number feels rage-inducing
this is by far the most disturbing and morose of all the songs featured in Opal, I rarely listen to it just because the atmosphere of pure despair is too much to take, it's like watching The Ascent (1977) & Morvern Callar (2002) back to back
My mother wasn't the nicest, she never did any drugs or alcohol at least. Sorta reminds me of her, even she acted like a victim. It makes me extra sad about the dad and Claire...
I played this on 0.25 speed to watch the flashback bit and it was fucking terrifying
i interpret this song about claire’s mother that is mentally unstable is unable to take care of claire but also is unable to take care of herself so she depends heavily on claire because she has no other places to hang onto. most likely suffering an drug addiction and is dumping all her problems to claire
Ty
i hate how in opal the songs get shorter and shorter

anyone with a drug addict mother will understand this song more then anyone. my mom has always been there only when she needed me, i was the child but she was the one falling into my arms and i was the one holding her hair when she threw up
MAMA NEEDS A BABA GRILL
This song gives me ptsd attacks and it makes me feel ALIVE
BIG Steven Wilson vibes for some reason.
terrifyingly the puppet looks almost exactly like my bio mother
What I’m taking from this song is that she wants a child for the sake of just having a child
The mother looks like a blonde version of Samara from "The Ring".
sobs
I honestly think the dialog after is part of the song, it's rhyme scheme is done much like a song would be composed, only it's without the music.
Reminds me so much of my own mom :(
I know it was a year ago but that’s horrible. Hope your doing well ❤
I hate how she says “mama needs ______” like she’s trying to sound kind, and soft, and not threatening when really she’s an abuser, physically and emotionally. She’s the worst by far I think.
On top of that, she uses manipulative terms like "mama's girl" and "baby girl," at the same time blaming her for her issues.
shes 100% the worst. also, the implied abuse towards the dad, which leads to his face being permanently disfigured and him becoming insecure of his actual face, adds a whole new layer. the grandpa and dad just didnt pay much attention to claire, while the mom was an abuser, and i wouldn’t doubt that the abuse extends towards claire as well.
I am cry.

I love this song but my brain can’t get over the fact it sounds like Morty singing
LMFAO
idk why but the mom really makes me mad
that isn't a virtuous cycle, that's a vicious cycle
Am I the only one who thought she was an homeless drunk man who just broke in the house
So true especially when she pulled up with Claire's leg I'm like....TF is this??😂😂
Mama needs, her little girl...
EVERYONE GO THE THE MOTHERS FLASHBACK AND PUT SPEED TO 2.5 THEN WATCH THAT ACTUALLY WHAT HAPPENED
Poor dad bro no wonder why he's narcissistic
I feel like the dad deserves to get help because he seems the best of the three, simply wanting to talk to her while on the contrary of the mother who acts like the victim and is very dangerous when drunk and the grandfather seems a bit abusive
It’s a feeling
The father got hurt and disfigured BECAUSE of the mother and even tried to get her to the police because of how abusive she was
The father is paranoid and he just needs to understand that his looks are not as bad as he thinks
The mother needs jail
esto da miedo
The mom is the worst in the family, she abuses her husband, uses her daughter to feel pity for her even though it’s her fault, and is probably the reason grandpa doesn’t go upstairs.
This shit creepy
It really is.....
My mom did drugs and alcohol and she abused me and my siblings so i listen to this when I miss her she was sick when she did this and told my dad he could take me and leave or leave me and my mammaws house

Can somebody tell me who opal is? And why did she have a bad family in the comments pls somebody tell me
Ok so I’m gonna assume you didn’t see the thing so I’ll put a spoiler warning here if you want to see and dissect it for yourself
Opal isn’t actually our protagonist’s name, the name is Claire, she has a neglectful family with an Addicted grandfather, a narcissistic father, and a alcoholic mother. Sorry I just killed the mood didn’t I
Mama needs a little girl to land oon,
Mama needs a little gIRl to fall in her ARms,
Mama nheeds a Mama's girl to take. Good care.
*M* Mama neeeds a bAby girl to hold her hair.
Why she look like she abt to rip an ahegao face-
How was opal born ?
her mom gave birth to her. it might have been before she got into drugs and alcohol
Jack stabbed is the only femboy to make songs about child neglect
Bruh what
GUYS I SAW THE OLD MAN FROM COOKING WITH ABIGAIL ITS FUTURE ABIGAIL 😮
I think she was abused and/or she abused someone else
both
Like another commenter said, i feel the flashback is her in a drunken rage and the mirror man(dad) is trgting to call 911 but gets caught and gets mutilated
It has proof of the mother being the bad one with the parts with her beating him and he's crying in his song you can see his real face
huh
What?
@@ding-dong_bing-bong the person probably doesn't know what's going on
Mom probably dialed 9 11 for who knows why and then her daughter was knocked down and dies and the person who knopcked her down was arrested
I had a friend (who I’ll call M) who’s mom was like this (The friend didn’t live with their mom but her mom still had contact since M lived with her Grandparents) her mom was a alcoholic and a drug addict who would use M as a therapist. But unlike this Ms story has a happy ending
Her mom got alot of rehab and (from what I heard) is doing alot better and lives with M and the grandparents :)
