  • In this weeks episode of Barefoot Travels we crack on with more boat projects and give an update on Irie Cat, the electric conversion catamaran. On splash day they start taking on water on both engines so unfortunately had to be blocked back up for a few more days.

    Yeah, watching the last video I was thinking someone forgot to put some silicone or a rubber pad between the fiberglass and motor unit to seal it to the hull. Nice to see it was an easy fix.

    A person would think that those tiny holes will clog up with bottom growth and the engines could fail from overheating. Hope they work out. good episode.

      Yes they are quite small. Might have to clean the bottom especially the motors more often?

    I’m pretty sure they’re missing the black brackets to install on top of the motor. Looks exactly like how large transducers are installed. I would fear what happens in their travels.

    the new motors are nice, but I didn't hear them mention making use of hydro regeneration capabilities with those motors... additionally the new dingy, while nice and large (maybe too large?)... being completely sail driven is laughable (idealistic conditions sure, otherwise a slough if it's any distance, better bring an umbrella). it's nice to have a bigger 'car' to move supplies onboard, however without power consider how weight can impact... I would consider some power, like an electric outboard at least; it's going to be a something that if they don't apparently miss, they will when they happen chance get on someone else's powered dingy.

    What there a solution to this issue? It looks like it might be a hole to allow water cooling but I dont know what's in there!

    Erica, diesel engines/electric motors....

    I hate to be too picky but it's electric motors, not "engines" (which is correct for petrol/diesel power)

      Hey. Thank you!
      We bought the bi axel from the local fibreglass store in Fort Pierce. No discounts or links for that store unfortunately.

    Dumb question. How do you get the tape for bottom paint 'perfectly' horizontal?

    • @BarefootTravels
      @BarefootTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      😆 takes time. I don’t think it will ever be perfectly horizontal! Not a dumb question at all!!
