HAPPY SUNDAY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I talked briefly about this, but what do you think about plaits not being a protective style?

Protective styling is not all about tucking your ends in (it's part of it). It's more about putting your hair in a low tension, low manipulation, low shrinkage style to minimize frizz, splits, knots and breakage. That's why braids work. Moreover, you can always bantu knot the ends of your braids or simply put them in a bun to further protect your ends. So, in my humble opinion, braids are a protective style. When I got intentional, It catapulted me from bra length to butt length in 2½ years and I've seen how it has helped you retain length too. Well, I'm so happy for your progress. You deserve this win. 👏🏽 Good luck on your new journey from team braids to team stretched natural. 😘

The secret they won't tell you is most of these natural ladies with long hair have actually gotten products that stretches/softens the kinky hair especially those that lose the curl patterns at the root of the hair which facilitate easy sectioning, styling etc. Most use good deep conditioners to achieve this. I couldn't help but notice the spelling of *hygral* fatigue in the snippet. Anything that has to do with water is *hydra* originating from the Greek *hundra* which is taken from Proto-Indo-European *udreh* meaning "aquatic".
This leads me to believe that what may have been an observation with certain hair types has turned into misinformation in the hair community. All searches for the meaning of "hygral" resulted in various articles on hair referencing "hygral fatigue".
(I think the pioneer of this term merged hydra + fungal to make hygral lol)
I have high porosity hair so "hygral fatigue" on my end is impossible. My hair starts drying as soon as I turn the shower off. However, if you have low porosity thick hair that takes days to dry, I can see how the cuticle can end up damaged and, in certain cases I've heard of, develop fungus/bacteria which thrives in a warm moist climate. Also consider that there are certain populations that are aquatic hy habitat who wet their hair almost daily and don't suffer from this condition for lack of a better word.
Anyway that's my two pennies worth on the internet. I've missed you. Your hair is looking FABULOUS. We have very similar texture in terms of fine strands and density and the dry scalp so you're one of the girlies I watch closely for inspo! 🤩

I've always had dandruff and dry scalp issues. When I first big chopped, and stopped oiling my scalp it went away. Now it suddenly reappeared first as scalp irritation, then dandruff which i treated. Now, its dry scalp which a tea rinse and oiling was helping. But I found a good ol' fashion greasing was the trick and alternating between that and dandruff shampoo.
I diy a hair grease with my own gro oil and mango butter because of Vitamin A, which can help with exfoliating (which in my mind, less clogged pores). And its been great! Fresh out the shower grease, light mist to scalp and massage, then style. Added bonus it helps with ease of parting
