Years ago my brother worked for a company in Florida that still did house calls for broken televisions. He met Ms. Lamarr on a house call and she called him "Kind Mike." He said he walked into the little apartment and as he was waiting began to notice framed photos of Hollywood stars. He went on to retire from Lockheed after being in electronics for 45 years and appreciated her brilliance. He loves to tell the story of how he met the most beautiful woman in the world!

She was beautiful. Almost perfect. And she was always called “beautiful” and those who knew her she was “Intelligent” “brilliant”.
It was considered a privilege only the wealthy could afford to go to a school that was a boarding school. Seeing your Mother at long stretches was also a privilege. The fairytale of having a perfect life with a Mother available 24 hrs a day. Her mental illness is something she had know control over. Where was the children’s father?
She definitely was extremely beautiful. She was amazing and gifted.

Awesome interview. Its Johnny Depp's song that intrigued me to dive deeper learning about Miss. Lamarr. Of course I did know about her movies and her scientific mind, but this is blowing me away!! I think how she must have felt so misunderstood! All that brilliance bursting at the seams, and she wasn't taken as seriously as she should have been! Her daughter seems to not know the very depths of her beautiful mother. Too bad.

Those old movie stars certainly had beauty. I can’t think of anyone today in Hollywood that could even compare to them. Maybe they had plastic surgery then, but not like today. Another beauty was Jean Tierney, exquisite beauty!

@@julietspaintings Happy to recommend it! I can imagine every single word of the script and its' concepts happening in "real life", having known some party girls and prostitutes in my life. Ms. Lamar, with an IQ approaching 200, obviously understood the reality for a few women and her acting alone due to this is worth 2 Oscars for Best Picture. I hope you like it. It would be interesting to hear a woman's point of view too.

you are so welcome David! I grew up listening to my mother talk about Hedy Lamar. She loved her but I had never known all of this information about the beautiful actress until recently as well. Hedy was a fascinating woman!
Hedy Lamarr will always be remembered for the movies and her unique role in History and her work at MGM. This invention is certainly going to put her on the map, but Hedy Lamarr was already on the map and big time! She and Greta Garbo will always be remembered as the most beautiful women in the World during the time they lived and far into the future as Nefertiti is remembered today.
Fellow Actress Luise Rainer made that statement in one of her 1980 interviews in regards to the beauty of Greta Garbo and comparing Garbo's beauty to that of Nefertiti.
As Louis B. Mayer liked to be said of his MGM Studio........"There are more Stars at MGM than there are in the Heaven's" and Louis B. Mayer gave Garbo, Rainer and Hedy Lamarr the jobs they had at the Queen of the Studios in Hollywood...Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer!
I think Mr. Mayer had more going for him than many people would give him the credit for in selecting Stars to work at MGM.

Nice conversation...I'm sure Denise was trying to remember the film where Hedy's character aged - "H. M. Pulham, Esq." Other articles say that was one of Hedy's favorites. "Her Highness and The Bellboy'''' is a favorite of mine and it was the one that Hedy took her children to see and they freaked when Mom was in jail after the raid on Jake's Joint. Hedy had a great flair for light comedy which should have been done more. It was the last film made under her MGM contract and came out after Denise was born. Hedy was pregnant with Denise during its production.

Hedy was truly an exceptional intelligence and beauty and I'm so happy she's finally getting the credit for technology that we all take for granted today in our everyday lives. I so would have liked to have met and known her because she is so exceptional. I've also heard that she was such a fine co-worker on her films and very professional as well as kind.

I met Denise Loder-DeLuca years ago when she was working at Nordstrom in Seattle. She told me wonderful stories of her Mom. Denise was beautiful and smart herself.

@@julietspaintingsif you do, go to Salzburg first. Then Vienna. Salzburg is so distinctly “Austrian” even in comparison to Vienna. Then be sure to go to Budapest, Hungary. One of the most fascinating, elegant cities in Europe. They were part of the same empire, as I’m sure you know, and it is so interesting to see the differences, and the similarities.
I had the privilege of knowing Hedy through her grandson. She was a kind and remarkable woman.

Solid interview. Recall viewing “Samson and Delilah” at a Drive-In Movie on Long Island, New York when it was first released (December 21, 1949)-Hedy was terrific! Her beauty was only surpassed by her intellect! Joan Bennett bears a remarkable resemblance to Hedy and was an amazing actress as well!

Heddy Lamar is my favorite actress from that era. I first saw her when i was 10 years old, while spending the night at my grandma’s house. The late show came on and it was Sampson and Delilah. It was the best movie i ever saw and it’s still my favorite🎁🌺❤️

I think she was very good in "Boomtown" with Clark Gable and she had a couple good scenes in "Ziegfield Girl". I read her book "Ecstacy and Me" and it a was very honest account of her life. I know she tried to have it not published but it wasn't bad...not great.. but not bad.

(Lucille Ball, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis generation) These women put their careers first....a bit of narcissist behavior...but we survived...Writing a book on this topic..

My mother (born in 1919, and a really extraordinary person: Born to a well to do family, she was studying opera at the Royal Academy of Music in London when WWII broke out. She left school and joined the ambulance corps. So, when London was being bombed, she was out, driving around the city rescuing people)... married twice and was left by each husband, the 1st time with a two year old. My father left before I was born (I met him later and we had a good relationship despite his being bi-polar). So, my mother HAD TO go to work. I think a far more interesting book would be the narcissism of men who just decide they're done with one family ... and go off to start another. The men who have left generations and generations and generations of children behind them feeling as if THEY didn't matter... and the mothers who stayed behind, found work and MADE IT WORK.
I know there ARE women who are narcissistic ... but in my 64 years, and especially having been fascinated by my parents era (the 30s, 40s and 50s), and having studied film ... I am more horrified by how much abuse (a lot of it verbal and disguised as so called 'humour') women put up with (1957's Pal Joey with Sinatra. I could barely watch it, I was so disgusted. And it was considered 'the norm' for that era) and even made excuses for ... there's a line out of Lili (1953 with Leslie Caron) I'll never forget: "He's mean... but he doesn't mean it." THAT's what women did; subjugated themselves, made excuses for men and their behaviours ... and carried on bravely, putting up with all kinds of indignities...
... Hedy Lamarr's invention and how she was treated when she presented it, illustrates this point perfectly.

Denise, what a wonderful interview! You are so lovely. It makes me wish I knew you. Tony was in my class at Hawthorne, and by the way, my father was your mother's attorney many years ago. I have one correction about the Beverly Hills wives making dinner for their families. Actually, most of them didn't cook. The majority of the cooking was left to the live-in housekeepers. So much so that we went to restaurants every weekend ,as the "maids" were off.
Good interview. I can see how children of famous people would feel cheated. I'm glad my (seriously) beautiful mother opted for making home a priority. And none of the women I knew from my parents' (Hety's) generation were subservient in their marriages. Everyone knew how demanding traditional roles for women are and they were respected as such. There were and are bad spouses, but marriage commitment was taken more seriously then by men in general. It was my generation, male and female, that trivialized traditional women's roles and commitment. We were called the "Me Generation " for a reason

I think it's awesome that Johnny Depp paid tribute to Hedy LaMarr. Believe it or not I learned about Hedy L. from old movies! I love movies from the 1940s-1970s. I'm a huge old movie buff! I did know of her status as an inventor though but only because of her movies. She certainly was a beautiful and intelligent woman.
