As a huge VF fan i cannot WAIT to get this. No more having to hook up my PS3 to play final showdown, and i love the new "coat of paint" this version has. The Yakuza team did a great job with the models and stages. And the best part is that this is free for people with PS Plus. I can only hope this means we will be getting a VF6 soon. Thank you SEGA.

I’ll never forget those family get togethers at my Grandmas house. Especially Easter of 2002, bcuz my uncle had VF4 on PS2. 🤣 When u have a small room w/ about 15+ kids, ages 5-15, in 2002, playing VF4, you’re gonna have some memories to look back on. 💯 I hope VF5 has a big turnout next week. 🤲🏼🌹🤲🏼

It feels like they're testing the water here.
My thought, they are going to see how popular this gets and uses the Yakuza engine to continue the series if the demand is there.
That's really the only reason I can see them revamping this using a new engine and redesigning the UI. They want to make this look REALLY good. Sony has the means to analyze the metrics of PS Plus, they know how many people get into this.
If this is popular enough, we might hear talk about a VF 6
I wonder if they already pulled some metrics from the Yakuza series to gauge VF's potential success. Almost every Yakuza game had an iteration of VF in it, and perhaps with Yakuza's current popularity, they were able to gather up player data showing how much virtual yen people threw at the series within Kamurocho's arcades (I know I dumped my fair share).
Reminds me of when Capcom released the DarkStalkers Collection for digital download back in the PS3 era. They wanted to gauge the interest in making a new installment in the franchise. It topped the charts as I recall, but that still wasn't enough for Capcom. Virtua Fighter is popular in the FGC but has never done well in mainstream audiences, especially in the west. Hopefully PS Plus changes that.

The creator of the yakuza games has stated that kiryu will not be in any fighting games as it won't be right for him to hit a woman. But it would be cool though

Virtua Fighter 5 first came out on July 2006 in the Arcades at Japan. It never had a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Release until 2007 and then was Re-Released in 2012 as VF5: Final Showdown
Also Fun Fact:
In between the years of 2006 to 2012,Sega released a revision of the game called Virtua Fighter 5R that came out in 2008. It is where Jean comes into the series for the first time along with Taka's return. Sadly it was not only an arcade exclusive, but it was also a Japanese exclusive as well.

That would indeed be cool. Sometimes I wish that the "Fighters MegaMix" fighters could all be in the same verse, but on the other hand Fighting Vipers characters don't quite fit the tone Virtua Fighters is going for. Virtua Cop with Yakuza and Virtua Fighter feels like a way better match though.

Max seems to be one of the few TH-camrs that know the difference between a remaster and remake. Unfortunately, lots of content creators/journalists/PR dudes in the past few years have completely confused the two terms. Just remember, if the game world assets are rebuilt from the ground up, it's a remake. If they just went into the old project and touched certain things up (in the latest resolution) it's a remaster.

VF5 is the only game in the series I've played, so it's funny this is the one their remastering. I remember enjoying it, it looks fun, and being free on PS+ there's no reason not to try it.

Me and my older brother used to play this game for hours every weekend. Then we got older and moved apart. It’s used to be a real pain booting up the ole ps3 to play with him once in a while. Now, fight nights are back. It’d be great if there’s a healthy online scene, but I’m just happy me and my bro can play together again.
I’m glad Max got blasted for his assumptions. I knew it’d be a super upgrade considering the hype Sega was building. It was huge, but big considering it was VF
Virtua Fighter was always one of those games that brings extremely nostalgic vibes.
I saw the trailer yesterday and immediately thought about you Max hahahah I was like Max is gonna love this!
The pioneer of 3D fighting games since its first release. What I love about the VF series is it doesn't need flashy effects like the Tekken and Street Fighter games (although they definitely suit the latter) but just two players fighting until the last breath before the KO.
A great cast of characters, awesome and authentic fighting styles - although a pro boxer would be very welcome - and moreover, it just feels so good. Oh, and the ring-outs add another layer of strategy to the fighting. Bring it on! 👊
I missed Virtua Fighter. Thank you, Sega! Now give us Kiryu as a guest character. Maybe Ryo from Shenmue...

@@seanmcbay The problem is that the fighting is pretty shitty compared to the other 2. If the intention was a game for the old fans, why change it? Why?
And if it was made by the Yakuza team the game would have a much bigger budget. Imagine the possibilities, not only in graphics but in gameplay too.
Shenmue 3 is nothing compared to what Shenmue 1 and 2 were when they released.

Virtua Fighter innovated on some things Tekken started doing, such as the bound/bounce system when you launch an enemy, slam them to the ground, and they bounce back up.
The ONLY thing VF "innovated" on was that it was the first 3D fighting game. Other than that, the series has floundered after VF2.
Always had a blast playing Virtua Fighter games in the Yakuza series. RGG Studio's Dragon Engine is now equivalent to Capcom's RE Engine to me personally.
Just within several years, the engine has been improved like crazy since Yakuza 6.
I just hope it gets a tutorial on the level of VF4E...
Gods, that game was a gateway to Fighting Game Arcade Heaven for what it offered to teach me...

I can't freaking wait to play this. VF was a big part of my childhood and I spent so much time playing the original game in the arcade and on my 32X that I gave myself blisters practicing the moves. Day one play!

@@shinbakihanma2749 On original hardware? Probably... 2004. Emulated the game and played again a few years back. Played 2 and 3 back in the late 90's and early 2000's at the mall's arcade (which no longer exists). I hope we can edit the size of the arenas still to make them one square wide!

@@leithazizpagy4699 Yeah Yakuza is definitely one of those games that has a slow start but once you get past it the game is amazing. Judging the game only within the first hour or so is really not experiencing Yakuza at all.

This made my entire week. VF2 was the first fighting game I ever played, so the nostalgia is strong here. Also, I finally tried out Killer Instinct, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it (thanks Max!!).

These VF5US in-game models kinda looks like the promotional models for the 1st VF5 backthen when it came out. Which by today's graphics capabilities, would be possible in-game.
This "upgrade" kinda reminds of the recent PSO2 "upgrade".

Final Showdown is legit one of my fav fighting game
So Sega could just make something different with the Yakuza/Judgement Studio and make a real Virtua Fighter RPG like Shenmu always wanted to be.
Shenmue aside
Yakuza now is actually an RPG but Turn-Based after 7 Series of Brawler Genre
Judgment follows same pattern but their Brawler is way way more improvement and it's mixed with CSI & Criminal Neo Noir Film
In Short, both Yakuza & Judgement is Hybrid RPG Action Semi Open World same like Shenmue but with short Budget and Successful Good
I mean, there *is* Virtua Quest....
