    Hi, your miserable days makes some interesting viewing, I didn't mind wet days when travelling, but I didn't have kids to keep occupied. , When we where kids, we was trapped in vehicle as a cyclone came down the coast, 1967, Dad hooked up the caravan just in case we had to go inland, Water out here to buy treated is $5, 1000l litres, Love those hidden bays, Enjoyed 🤠🦘🦘🇦🇺

    Another great video. Definitely some contrasting weather conditions. It must have been quite comforting having some hard standing accommodation to retreat to during the storm, thankfully weather like that isn't very common.
    Some awesome experiences once again.
    Our East Cape trip about 18 years ago was in weather similar to that and we had a wee canvas camping trailer. Chickened out and got a cabin one night.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't blame you getting a cabin... we would have been fine in the caravan but just much easier for our active kids to have somewhere to stretch their legs... we won't always be somewhere with a back up plan so grateful atleast.

    *Some rough weather you had there, I follow another channel called Touring with the kids and they have had it bad too on the Isle of Skye, must be rought haha. Not often see New Zealand like this, weather is normally decent for you*

      We get some terrible storms here mate cause we are a pretty small landmass with lots of ocean around us... the south islands west coast can get up to 10m of rainfall a year, those rivers and beaches and towns Can get smashed... I'm sure you will see many more weather events 😉 😏 but yes this area is normally having issues with droughts, how ironic.. 🤔

    I did wonder how you guys got on with that storm. It was good you had somewhere to escape to. It's criminal that forestry and farmers who have had forestry blocks have been able to get away with leaving all that slash to wash downstream. The amount of erosion on the hills on that coast always astounds me. Funny to hear the girls still with a little American twang in their voices.😄

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea it's still there at timed the American acsent... weather was terrible, hopefully it's a long time till we get anything like that again.. there has been court action against forestry crews not cleaning up slash properly

  • @RichardvanDijk

    I always feel like east cape is a region that would be an awesome tourist route but is so poorly serviced and the road is pretty bad that it puts many off. You guys certainly managed to have some bad luck with the weather.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it could totally do with more services although that would definitely bring more people... I love that it's quiet although January would be pretty mental up there...

    Is it all freedom camping there now? We did that trip in 2020 and we had to buy a permit to freedom camp. Great video as always.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is allocated summer camping and year round freedom you need the permit to camp in the extension areas, like Tokemaru Bay area gets about 8 times bigger with the summer permit areas but the freedom campsite is year round but just the small spot we were in

    • @merhaba8
      @merhaba8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still need a permit from the council but they are free

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@merhaba8 you only need a permit for extension camping area between labour weekend and Easter... there are still some freedom camp sites not requiring the permit.

    • @merhaba8
      @merhaba8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leopardsgowild Not sure what you mean by extension areas, Ive never heard that term before, but although there are some true all year freedom camping spots, the best ones require a permit for, as you said, summer camping between Labour Weekend and 31st March, not Easter. Some of those, not Kaiaua, are open the rest of the year without a permit. I live and camp in the area.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@merhaba8 so tokomaru bay have summer camping area which runs from the creek to the cemetery south end you need a permit for these spots, and can only use labour weekend to Easter but they also have a year round freedom camping spot no permit required, but smaller space. Most people are aiming for the beaches close to gisborne which are always permit only, but we did not camp there or video those areas.
