Thank you for this as it helped me and just wanted to thank you. I just replaced my old door, like 20 plus years old with a brand new Larson door yesterday. After watching your video it made things very easy and comforting as I began the process. Again thank you.
Excellent video! I used a Lowe's contractor for the back door (only because I'm old and fat), however, when I bought the front door and set up an arrangement for their contractor he never contacted me. I called twice, waited three weeks and nothing. I've done home maintenance all my life, construction, wall board, plumbing, electrical, etc. so I decided to go get the door and do it myself. I like everything about these Larsen doors...made in America, clear instructions, left or right opening and quality construction. I'll be on this project the first nice day we get here in west Texas.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman It was interesting and at the same time challenging to get this door installed. My opening was exactly within the specified tolerances, but when I had the strike plate jamb in place there was nearly a 1/2" gap between the edge of the door and the jamb. I made shims out of 1/2" plywood and they were one layer of lamination too thick. My table saw would barely adjust to rip one layer off of the shims. The door fits perfectly now with the exception of the strike plate. It sticks out too far and I will modify it later. Again, thanks for the video. It was a tremendous help.
Bought this exact same door today. Same color too. I also bought it with my dog in mind. I'll be installing it tomorrow. Thank you so much for this video. It gave me the confidence I needed.
Yeah man!!! You can do it! I too was a little like.... “Uhhhhh.....” when I started! If I wasn’t recording and moving camera angles and stuff.... I could have done it in a lot less time! Good luck!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Well I just completed it 2 hours ago. Because of your video, I barely had to look at the instructions. Like the part about unscrewing that little plate so you can flip the striker around depending on which way your door opens. I also noticed you used an extension drill bit. Apparently, that was important. LOL. Anyway, I got it all done and it looks great! Much thanks!
Thanks for the video! I bought this from Lowes about two weeks ago and it finally came in the other day. They wanted $140 to install it. Found your video and having never installed a storm door before I was able to do so. Took me about 3 hours but that's ok. I got the same door except mine has the hidden closer. I felt that looked better and there were less parts to trip on if the door was open...etc. Overall, very pleased with the door!
I’m putting my second storm up and I always take longer than most people. I just try to do a good job and I’m not trying to be fast. Good job on installing your own because a lot of people won’t try to attempt it.

However after 10 hours. It looks great. Probably could have done in in an hour or 2 if not all the extra problems.

Great video- Thanks for sharing! I feel confident that I can install one of these now. I noticed that there was a little bit of play once you closed the door in place before you added the hydraulics. Hi, I’m looking to install a similar Larson storm door on my existing decorative exterior front door which has sidelights- and I just noticed that the door knob goes past the door frame/trim- giving me no cavity whatsoever to install this storm door- ugh. So I’m assuming I would need add a frame and build out and add additional trim/moulding to give me a cavity to mount the storm door framing onto. after installation: on the latch side, the door is flush with the latch rail at the top, and a 3/8" gap at the bottom, hinge side door alignment is flush. how best to address / correct that gap ? thanks
So I am at that moment where I need to lift up the door and place it on the installation screw. Any tips for managing the door by yourself? Did you rest it on top of a board or something to have it level for putting onto the installation screw?
