Im a first year plumbing apprentice from socal. And I just moved onto a ranch and im going for it myself. A little scared but this video filled in all the blanks for me so im pretty stoked to get cracking. Last step before breaking down is getting the permit and renting the mini x and its time to rip haha. Thanks for the good video you answered all the right questions for someone trying to accomplish this themselves
I'm a Septic Professional in the State of New Hampshire with over 20 years of experience, and we typically see Septic Tanks installed 10 to 15 feet from the foundation of the house. However, we are allowed to be as close as 5 feet, but it's very rare that anyone has a tank that close to their house, unless it's not possible to get further away from the building or dwelling. In any case, regarding the pitch on the Inlet Pipe, you don't want the wastewater to get ahead of the solids, because that causes problems, which is why too much pitch is not a good idea. By the way, this type of Leaching Area or Drainage Area, is actually what we call a "single line leach pipe" not a Leachfield or Drainfield, because it's just one pipe in a trench with crushed stone. Nevertheless, I've never heard of anybody using 3 feet of stone in a trench before, but I'm sure it'll last a long time. Typically, up here in New England, a foot of aggregate material is plenty, unless it's a Dry Well or a French Drain, but I think this system will work just fine... well done!
It's California, brother. Nothing makes sense there. You have to install septic tanks to commercial standards, but you can build a tent city of transients on heroine, and the politicians will pay for everything with tax payer dollars.....
@@bryang5412 Good Morning Sir, I understand what you're dealing with out there on the "left coast" is an absolute disaster. Very unfortunate, but I don't what you can do about it other than move... get outta there!

Awesome video and FANTASTIC explanation of critical items. I live in Oklahoma and don’t need to have permits or even need inspection but I’m going to go off of this model. Thank you sir.
Nicely done, thanks for sharing. Much like you I am about to do it with very few backhoe skills. I do have a can do attitude so it will get done. I plan on engaging the inspector prior to.
Hi Hillbilly Repairman, I'm glad I watched your video on the septic installation. You explained everything really good I appreciate that. I'm about to start my house construction in Texas. I'm going to follow your instructions. One question on the requirements it specifies that the homeowner can install the septic himself with no help just the homeowner or hire an installer and spend 10 ton 12 K. I don't understand the logic. Who cares who installs the septic as long it meets the town, city, state requirements I think is just politics bad bad. Take care my friend and again thanks that video is going to help me a lot.
Hillbilly Repairman, superb video! Thank you so much, it helps a lot of people who otherwise cannot afford to pay someone to do this work. Oh yeah, I saw the list of expenses but not the cost of the backhoe rental?
The backhoe usually runs $200+ per day. It's worth making a few calls to different rental places, just check the load weight to make sure your trailer can handle it, otherwise it'll need to be delivered, often at an additional cost. Usually the 3 day rate is about the same as a week, so sometimes that's more cost effective.
Great job! Thanks for the helpful info!!! I’ll be putting one in with my son, in another state. But … I don’t want a big backhoe, I want a smaller one, even tho it may take me longer … any suggestions from my TH-cam family? Thanks!
I just purchased some land in Potrero, California over by San Diego area. Nicely done man. If you hadn’t done it you’re self what would be the cost to get it done by a company any idea.
The amount of leach field you need depends on how good or poor your soil drains during the perk test. That is what determines how long. I could have done 2 shorter rows but I had the room for 1 long one.
Wow!! Thank you for the video!! I’m moving to Tehachapi in the next few months. Purchased some land with a well. Looking at installing the septic and off grid solar system. By chance what engineer did you use? Any help on leads would be greatly appreciated. @hillbillyrepairman
Curious, How much for the perk test? Sry if i spelled it wrong. Soil sample? Permit? As well as actual cost of septic tank and other installation supplies broke down. Thank you 🙂
Hello: It has been a while but from memory the perk test was 800 the engineered septic plan was 1200, the rock and delivery were 1800, pipe and fittings 400, and the tank was around a grand. the permit was around 800 I believe. hope that helps.
Yes I needed my plans stamped by kern county building Dept. As well as the Enviornmental health department. It sounds horrible, but it was actually pretty easy. If you are in kern county I’ll look up the engineers number for you.
Thank you for being specific in your video & replying to questions. That’s very kind of you for taking time out of your day.
Big kuddos to you for answering everyone's questions, you are the exception. Thanks again.
Great video God Bless you

Do you need to have a house on the land for them to give you a permit for a septic tank system?

Permit just put that crap in yourself at night

No you should just stay there..
Just don't move up the west coast :/
That's what we did and never looked back. California is gonna implode!

You are on the right track, the inspector is the key to all of it. As long as he is happy, you’re good to go!
Hi how or whom did your perc test. I'm in Noth Edward's kern county and I can't find anyone to either install or perc test@@hillbillyrepairman5205
Thanks for showing this.. Im at this stage up here in Butte county.. Its been overwhelming.. Thanks again for the info

Whoa backhoe is in gear, very dangerous. Also extend them outriggers down more so you get higher to curl the bucket with ease.
You did your job in the smart way, what part of California your property is?.
Hi my friend. I finally find somthing useful. I just got a small lot in Kern, and I will need septic, but how you did get water?
Very Hart to do the septan
Maybe I missed it somewhere but what do you think your final material costs were ?

What was the price tag on that with the rental of the backhoe and all the rocks and the septic itself and all the materials needed
how deep does the tank have to be?
Excellent. What is the cost breakdown
I live in Kern county as well, west of tehachapi. I’d like to talk to you about all the paperwork and process. Thanks! Richard
Hi Richard, I tried to call a few weeks ago but was unable to get in touch. If you still need to ask some questions send me a message.

Honestly, I do not know. I never asked because I wanted to do it myself.
From what I've read, around $5,000 - $15,000
All do what ever I want on my land I don't need no stinking permit
Thanks for the info
job is done ! thats all you need! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just need one leech field row?'...? I thought leech fields were three of four rows...like a fork... Looks great!

Does the septic tank plans have to have a seal from the state ?
From the county, at least here in California.
