I was too curious, so I googled it. 😂 Raw sugar cane syrup was poured into the cone shaped depressions in the block of wood and sold to consumers in the cone shape. The consumer would then be able to chip off sugar when they needed to use it. I also saw someone use votive candles in glass rounds & they put them on top of the holes, so pretty.

In the Caribbean, the molds are used to make a desert out of liquid cane sugar. In Cuba, in the past, they are called "raspadura" de cana. They would look like a pyramid and you would take chunks of it to eat. It is usually very sweet and it would last at least a week, not something you eat in one day.

I have a sugar mold use it for candles it has around 10 holes it’s big. I have it on my mantle. They still make sugar into that shape at least I do find them in Mexico and make capirotada. It’s almost like a bread pudding desert that is eaten during lent.

Trust me - your wood caddy was not too much....one like you just bought would easily have a $100 price tag or more on it in a high end primitive antique store. It's really a charming piece....beautiful patina....you actually got a really good deal. In the 19th c and maybe earlier, sugar was molded into cones and hardened, and then wrapped in paper and sold that way. People had to use what is called sugar nippers to break off chunks of sugar for use. The molds you found are very nice....I also think the patina is especially nice.

I’d be inclined to use the single sugar mold as a tall match holder for on top a mantle.
The double one I’d use that one by a coffee/ tea/ hot coco bar with short and tall spoons or peppermint sticks for Christmas etc.

I have one of those molds, it has 12 holes, made of very old wood, in a cast iron stand. Bought it years ago for like $40.00!! I’m sure it’s worth a lot more to someone now😂😂😂😂, but I just don’t want to part with it😂 My best friend every time she visits asks if I’m ready to give it up😂 . I put votive candles in jars in it, looks beautiful on the dining room table, when lit it’s gorgeous❤

I had gone to our local library and bought 8 pieces of the Bookhouse for a dollar a piece. In your last video you brought it up, I didn't know there were twelve books. So I wanted a complete set and found them dated 1937. I was happy, but you are right they are a little pricey. They were worth it though. I enjoyed your video.

On the Pyrex shelf, the first two dishes you touched were Corningware, the ones with handles and autumn colors.
I’m glad you were able to get away for some fun time. I love to go antiquing and/or thrifting with you! The prices seem a little steep compared to the Boise area. I like the wooden tray and I think it was worth the price.

The multi cube wooden box/shelf could be used in the bathroom to hold rolled up facecloths, soaps or toilet paper. Black antique scissors would be nice with the twine in the caddy. Very inspiring...thanks! :)

There WAS Corningware on the shelves you showed at first. They were shallow, square, and had a glass lid with a knob. They can go in oven or on a burner, which is usually different from Pyrex, which doesn't usually go on a burner. The turquoise and white round bowls with lids later in the video are Pyrex, which was usually used for the refrigerator or serving/mixing. The sugar molds were used for just what it sounds like. Maybe 1800s? They were massively reproduced in the 1990s.

This week my husband is going on a 6 day work trip. I have an 18 month old and we both usually work from home with him (me part time.) I hate being overnight alone for long without my husband so I’m spending the next several days at my parents house. They’re thrilled about being able to see me and our son, and now I have help 😊

The dish you had your hand on is Corning Ware. It's called "Spice of Life." I only know that because it's the pattern my mom handed down to me and I collect additional pieces here and there. If you're interested in getting pieces to try out, you can check the DI. I was just in the DI today where I live and found a roaster with the lid for $2. Corning Ware changed their formula in the early 2000s, so I only buy the older patterns. The material was durable because it could withstand sudden temperature changes. It can go from freezer to frig, to stove top, to oven.

I have a sugar mold and I put a glass votive candle holder in it and a battery votive. Then I put a seasonal wreath around the base of it. It makes a simple centerpiece. It's especially pretty at Christmas. I also have a similar box to the one you bought and I use it in my kitchen to hold salt, pepper, and other spices that I have in Hoosier jars.

There is also a quilt pattern called SugarCones! I did a guided quilt tour in Golden Colorado, and they had them! I'm jealous for you... Interesting how we now think of sugar cones as an ice cream base, huh...

A sugar mold is a long block with a series of depressions that are used for forming sugar cones1. They are often made from long blocks of wood, though they can also be pottery1. Sugar molding is how sugar was first sold to people1. Sugar molds had a unique history in confectionery, and earned their namesake from the raw sugar cane syrup poured into the tin cones or wood blocks, and once dried, it formed into brown sugar

In PA, where I live, you can routinely get a discount of 10%-20% (especially if you pay cash) in antique malls and stores. It sounded like you paid full price for your purchases. That may be the custom in your area?????
