    Thanks - spot on instructions! My hose clamps were garbage but I only had one gusher - got everything changed and hopefully this solves my intermittent long-starts!

      glad this video helped! if you can buy a obd2 scanner for your mercedes.. you hook it up under the dash on the driver side . or you can also go to any autozone and get them to do a free obd2 reading .. these fault codes will lead you to anything wrong with your car . always start by doing that first. because these cars can get out of hand financially if you misdiagnosed mechanical issues.. mercedes are 60% hardware 👨🏼‍🔧and 40% software 👨🏼‍💻

    Thanks bro. I have to get to fuel pump to see if power is getting to it. I got car and same day it stopped starting while I was checking fuses. Not sure if a random fuse or relay is bad but I checked them all and now neeed to check pump. I actually hope it’s the pump so i don’t have to chase electric issue any longer

      If you can get a obd 2 scanner and plug it into the car .. scan for any fault codes that the car is tell you needs attention (Do this first )
      If you don’t hear the fuel pump make any noise then it could be dead.. test the wires is good to do also ..

    IMO, start off by opening gas tank, pulling your Fuel Pump fuse (In my w220 2002 S55 AMG that fuse is located under the rear passenger side seat) and then start your car (It won't start, instead it will release pressure). Then optionally if you have someone to help then you connect/tap into the fuel line (Used for Fuel Pressure tests and right where the coil rack/rail is). As you're removing the hose from underneath, they can either release pressure from their end so you don't have fuel squirting out desperately or if you want to be a little more clever you modify the fuel pressure test hoses to have a suction type vac so the helping person can pump lightly to suck up fuel while you undo the hoses so nothing gets messy.... Just some food for thought that makes sense to me theoretically. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

    2002 Mercedes s500 gas meter is broken what do you think it may be? I brought a new fuel sending unit haven’t tried it on yet. But if that doesn’t work what else you think may be the issue? Thanks.

    • @piscatawaymechanic
      @piscatawaymechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A new fuel sending unit could help
      If that doesn’t do the trick. It could be your speedometer until failing to receive the signal .. you can also check for any obd2 codes currently active that could indicate a potential problem.

    Been following your channel and have learned a lot bout my 01 S430.. Now the problem I'm having is tht my fuel pump is working intermittently sometimes pump kicks on sometimes it doesn't and has left me stranded twice but then next day fuel pump will work and can starts fine this is driving me nuts please help!!!??

    • @piscatawaymechanic
      @piscatawaymechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I would suggest first hook your obd2 scanner into the car.. check for all fault codes
      Then secondly, check fuel pump fuse ( i have a video of the diagram/ fuse locations on my channel).. thirdly. Check the leads going to the fuel pump for voltage..if everything checked out ok then its definitely time to get a new fuel pump.. make sure to get the Oem or like the one i have. Because cheap aftermarket pumps are very noisy and fail prematurely!!
      Hopefully this helps you

      Yeah sounds like your fuel pump could be on the way out. But wait and see what codes are screaming for help on ur obd2 code scanner first . You will be surprised 😯 at the amount of codes. Thats why people just throw in the towel when dealing with an w220 😑🤦🏼‍♂️..

    Is it common for the fuel pump to leak fro the side where they wires connect

    • @piscatawaymechanic
      @piscatawaymechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No leaks should be happening at all ..especially when gasoline is involved ! I would recommend replacing that pump ASAP .. check your hose lines make sure they are soft and flexible. Replace them if they are hard and or cracked at all .. and sometimes the hose clamps lose the ability to hold tightly and can cause leaks ..
      Hopefully that helps you!

      Ive seen. Hard starts, very noise pump , no sound from the pump once its dead , could signal a code in the obd2 system.. filter changes can be done every 2 years .. most people neglect this simple replacement item. Fuel pump & filter are not extremely expensive so it you want to replace it for good maintenance habits…. Please check for any obd2 codes first ..this will lead you 90% of any issues 🧑🏼‍💻+🧑🏼‍🔧=🚘

If u have a voltage reader checking the wires for any voltage is important before and after.
