  • Pragpur, in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district of Punjab, was declared the first Heritage Village of India. It is located about 100 kms from state capital Chandigarh.
It is famous for the different havelis made with Mud and Wood by the Sood clan of merchants. The sud families migrated centuries ago from Amarkot in Rajasthan. They built these beautiful havelis. Most of the workers came from Afganistan to do the work at that time in the villages of Pragpur and Garli. If you take a walk in the village you will see mud plastered houses, village tank, school building
Some of the big houses have been converted into Heritage Hotels. Amongst them the Chateau Garli and Judge’s Court Manor are the famous ones.
Pragpur is about 400 kms from Delhi.
