I got a 500 ABS 2019. Gone about 850 when i bought it. I got a great deal on it, so happy. BUT, be aware, the throttling from 1st to 2nd gear on a 500 is waaaaay to low. So low its gonna annoy some people if you are not used to it. Myself, i sometimes take of in 2nd gear depending on the situation. If at standstill, and a flat area? Rev it with 2nd gear... Some other improvements for this 2020 are the suspension and a slip assist clutch. Maybe that's why you thought it felt better. That rear light assembly looks so much better now. They don't offer the S version in the states or in matte black but you can buy the cowl, fork boots, seat separately. I'd like to get one of these someday.

"60"? You're a kid! After a 30 year biking hiatus, for my 74th birthday present, I bought a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT ABS sport bike, which, at the current age of 76.5 years, is still probably the best decisions I've ever made. Looking to do some cruising, so I've an interest in the Rebel 500 - don't want a big/heavy/expensive Harley or the likes. Enjoy the journey!
Man I thought I really wanted that bike... Went to go look + sit on it, and it was too small.. I felt cramped on it. I'm 5'11" + 220 pounds. First street bike, I went the Suzuki SV650 instead.
Why its always worth a test before purchase :) how you finding the sv650? Awesome engine that, I have the same engine on my v strom and I've put 35k miles on it with zero problems
TommyBarnezTV I love it. So far so good. The bike is potent if I’m not careful, but at the same time it’s been smooth to ride. No complaints. Oh ! Well.. I am gonna switch out the seat later on. It’s not bad but it’s not great.
Dear Tom. Thank you for another great motorcycle review. I know there's some reviews on electric motorcycles out there on TH-cam, but it would be nice if you can choose one of those electrical bikes (available to you) and make a nice review and present it out of your opinion? That would be a nice change of bike in comparison to the traditional motorcycles with internal combustion engines as you already so nicely have reviewed. Wish you all the best with your TommyBarnezTV channel, as I follow. Ride Safe & May God Bless You.
Thanks! I've been looking into electric options. I dont have anything lined up at the moment but I'm hoping to sort something out soon. I had been planning on having my first electric review on the harley live wire however my local dealer dont have one in their demo fleet yet. I'll see if I can get out on a zero before the end of the summer. Thanks for comment, ride safe
Great video and beautiful looking bike. Rode one during safety training but hoping to pick one up next season. I had a question - what's your lav mic set-up to? A Zoom recorder? Asking because your audio sounds incredibly crisp. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! For the walk around on this i have it plugged straight into phone which i record the vid on. Having the change this though as a few issues have come up recently. Riding i have it plugged into the gopro. Purple panda mic
Enjoying your video from Toronto Canada; loving it. Grew up biking since I was 16 up to 25; was riding 125 CC to 250 cc and then life happened. After 15 years...planning to get back to it and this is my pick. Once a biker always a biker. By the way, what do you think about Goldtop jackets?
Awesome, yeah I cant imagine not riding bikes 😀 I dont know anything about Goldtop. I just had a quick look at their website and my criticism would be that they use CE armour rather than D30. With clothing I tend to always go for D30 armour options.

I have a 2020 Rebel, but not the S. I hate the look of the cowl, but got the other visual upgrades including the small wind screen, which really helps at higher speeds. I 6'4" so I got a forward kit, which works great. I love it. Put almost 3k kilometers on it already 😁
I'm a taller guy too (6'2) who really wants this bike but was worried I wouldn't fit. Awesome to know that a forward control kit fixes the issue. Thanks for letting us all know!
Yeah I use a fixed shutter speed and an ND filter however was a bit too sunny! Actually bought a darker filter after filming this but that was too dark when in the shade 😂 I'll keep trying to get it perfect though
I am 4.7 only but also I feel tight. But due to the nice style - size - handling I decided to get it. Even the 250 cc would have been alright for me here and in Japan (speed limits), but I spoiled myself a bit this time. Great honest review. 73, JR2FJI
I chose the rebel 300 over the 500 for the slight boost in fuel economy and im glad i did. I cant even go 85 on any highway legally(except for the one in texas that has an 80mph speed limit)in the united states anyway so the 300 is perfect.
Hey man I’m deciding right now between a 300 or a 500 for that exact reason cause I don’t necessarily need, or want the speed (this is also my first bike) after about 9 months since this comment how do u feel about the 300 do you think you outgrew it or are you still satisfied with it? Thanks
@@Jremo. jesus christ man i was so stupid and naive. I didnt take weather conditions into consideration. You may not want the speed but youre going to need that extra power if you end up in a windy situation or going uphill on the highway. I rev at max rpm and there have been times when i wish i had the 500 because mine only goes 40 mph in those conditions. If you can, i wouldnt get either and id get the 1100 but if those two are your only options, then definitely get the 500. Dont make the same mistake i did because the lack of power sucks when the weather isn’t perfect or when the streets arent flat.
@@ConservativeCalifornian1032 damn man well I really appreciate the honesty. I was most likely gonna go with the 500 but I’ve been trying to ask anyone I possibly can about it lol. Have you ever upgraded or still on the 300?
Im still on the 300 since im waiting to have enough for the 1100 but i can assure you that the 500 is the way to go. Heres an example, most cars have a top speed of 140-160mph. No one drives that fast but the engine is capable of using that much power in case its needed. The same goes for bikes. Plus, the more powerful the engine is, the lower your rpm is at high speeds so it’ll keep your engine lasting longer. Good luck with your new bike, brother.✌️
@@Jremo. oh and also take care of the bike in case youre going to trade it in so it doesnt lose a lot of value so you can maybe upgrade to the 1100 if you happen to want to upgrade.
Honda Rebel 500 is a great bike for a short ass. The Honda Rebel 500 is no problem for my Thai secretary ( 5' 0" ; 40 kgs) . to drive but worries she will drop it and prefers the Honda Monkey I also have. I would not pay £500 extra for the S.
I was gonna get the 300 but everyone that has the 500 is making me want to get this instead 😔 I weigh 220Pounds/99.79Kilos, and I started thinking that the 300 won’t have the energy to pull me, at least not decently fast enough, especially when I get on the highway
Yeah I'd say go for the 500. I dont think the 300 is available in UK market so I dont know much about it. The 500 doesn't have too much power so no reason not to get it
It sounds great. But I looked up the exhaust and it said 'for racing only, not legal for UK roads,' Could you get prosecuted for having this exhaust? Where would I stand?
Hmm, I dont know the details for this exhaust. I would think fine though if its on a demo bike. You probably could get prosecuted for an exhaust that's too loud but I would think most cops would give you a verbal warning to sort it out if its a problem.
Between this, Honda CBR600 or. KTM RC 390. Havent riden in a while and need something light to get back into the groove. Problem is I commute through the highway to work and skeptical as to the Rebels speed, will it keep up and willI have trouble on my 20 mile roundtrip?
Its OK on the highway but is probably at the limit of what I'd personally be comfortable with. For highway speeds I like a bike that can comfortably get up to 90 quickly if I required. The rebel could do that up to about 80 with my weight (90kg). It'll get up higher if you need just won't be instant. I have a friend that had a RC 390, and she avoided highways but I think that was mostly due to wind. The cbr650r is pretty solid. I've got a review up of that and it has no issues on the highway, very light also and even though its not as comfortable as the rebel for your distance it would be ok I think. Have a ride of them all though and see which one works for you, all decent capable bikes. Ive not personally ridden the ktm but I havent heard of any issues from my friend apart from the wind I mention.
@@TommyBarnezTV Thank you for the response. I don't plan on flying down the road but I would like that extra power and acceleration if needed. I just like the Rebel looks great and seems lile sn essy drive for me to get back into motorcycles (sfter 17 years) but I'm also hesitant due to the speed factor mainly because I will mostly use it for work commute and it's all highway. I'll be heading to the dealership next week but I may just see them in person not yet sold on either. Thanks for the review i'll be checking your other video.

Learned on the 85, fell in love! Bought the 17, cheated on the 85.
I really like the WWII look of the bike. Too bad I'm way too tall to ride it.
I'm hearing rumours of an 1100 which might be better suited to taller riders...
I enjoyed your video. Been thinking about getting one. I’m 5’6” and 125 # male and sounds like should be ok.
Yeah I'd say would be great
I’m 5’5 and 122 lbs. female. I think the Rebel 500 will be perfect. I’m hoping to find a good used one for a cheaper price.
@@insanejane522 I used to have a Suzuki gsx r750. Now looking something simple and cheaper to insure. Good look on your search.
Great video! What would u say the comfortable highway cruise speed on this bike would be, before the vibrations creep in?
70-80mph
It needs a bigger tank or evens an option plus a tachometer, and a small screen for uk use as it rains so much here.
Can't wait for the Honda Rebel 2021 Pro MAX
picked my 2021 up today. entering biking at the age of 60 is something i did way way too late im going to ride this till i pop my clogs
Legend. Enjoy it mate 👊
Great video thanks for the review :)
@@TommyBarnezTV That sounds splendid :-) I'm looking forward to that Tom.
One thing I don't like about all of the helmet cams is that they distort the image and make speeds seem much faster than they really are.
it looks like your going 100 mph .beautiful country
Clever camera settings :)
Very nice review. Is that the stock Exhaust?
Not stock, its a lextech exhaust
Love the bike. I commented earlier on the bike. Being a Yank, I don't know what the zigzag lines on the roads means. Please advise. Tx
Pedestrian Junction approaching
Enjoying your video from Toronto Canada; loving it. Grew up biking since I was 16 up to 25; was riding 125 CC to 250 cc and then life happened. After 15 years...planning to get back to it and this is my pick. Once a biker always a biker. By the way, what do you think about Goldtop jackets?
Awesome, yeah I cant imagine not riding bikes 😀 I dont know anything about Goldtop. I just had a quick look at their website and my criticism would be that they use CE armour rather than D30. With clothing I tend to always go for D30 armour options.
Slippery clutch for 2020, kinda important.
Thinking of getting this for my 1st bike
Just about to do my allacess with honda
5ft11 14.5 stone
And I can't get out for a test drive because I'm new to the bike
I'm 38 so not arsed about speed to be fair
As long as it has enough to over take and filtering I'll be happy
I live up in the Lake District so that's what I'm wanting if for
Advice please as I am at a loss 9f what to pick
Harley sportster
Honda cb650r
So many to choose from 🙈🙈🙈🙈
Hey sorry for late reply. Have you bought a bike yet?
I have a 2020 Rebel, but not the S. I hate the look of the cowl, but got the other visual upgrades including the small wind screen, which really helps at higher speeds.
I 6'4" so I got a forward kit, which works great.
I love it. Put almost 3k kilometers on it already 😁
Nice! I havent seen one with forward controls
I'm a taller guy too (6'2) who really wants this bike but was worried I wouldn't fit. Awesome to know that a forward control kit fixes the issue. Thanks for letting us all know!
The camera view is ok but it's a little overexposed. I think, on balance I'd rather have the Suzuki SV 650. Best, Pete.
Yeah I use a fixed shutter speed and an ND filter however was a bit too sunny! Actually bought a darker filter after filming this but that was too dark when in the shade 😂 I'll keep trying to get it perfect though
Hey man! Thinking about getting the Honda rebel 500 as my first bike any thoughts or recommendations?
I think its a good choice. Make sure you have a test ride first
I am 4.7 only
but also I feel tight.
But due to the nice style - size - handling
I decided to get it.
Even the 250 cc would have been
alright for me here and in Japan
(speed limits), but I spoiled myself
a bit this time.
Great honest review.

Aweosme! Enjoy!
If you feel tight, try some Metamucil.
Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed
Can someone tell me the auto DCT range bike options ie: models, within the Honda range, please!
Tank is to flarkin small. At least 4.75 gallons would be nice . I understand it's a city bike , but it can handle highway speeds.
Superb riding video!!!
Thanks !
How can you hear it when you’re talking non stop?
Honda Rebel 500 is a great bike for a short ass. The Honda Rebel 500 is no problem for my Thai secretary ( 5' 0" ; 40 kgs) . to drive but worries she will drop it and prefers the Honda Monkey I also have.
I would not pay £500 extra for the S.
I don't like the S either.
I just bought a 2020 Honda rebel 500 as my first bike, thanks for the review. "this horn is a horny horn" xD
The 500 doesn't have too much power so no reason not to get it
My next bike ❤
It sounds great. But I looked up the exhaust and it said 'for racing only, not legal for UK roads,' Could you get prosecuted for having this exhaust? Where would I stand?
Hmm, I dont know the details for this exhaust. I would think fine though if its on a demo bike. You probably could get prosecuted for an exhaust that's too loud but I would think most cops would give you a verbal warning to sort it out if its a problem.
@@TommyBarnezTV Many thanks for reply, Tommy. Ride safe mate.
@@iniakpmarc28 you too buddy
Yeah looks like decent power for the street...
What do you think of this year versus last year?
Way better then last year's model with everything :) im considering buy the 2020 model as first bike this or vulcan s 🤔🤔
@@jezzamouse5644 I havent tried the vulcan yet, they look pretty good though
@@TommyBarnezTV will you get your hands on a vulcan s for a test ride or maybe try :) do a video would be amazing :)
@@jezzamouse5644 if I can I will however I dont think my local dealer has one in their demo fleet

Yeah I'm pretty sure it would be fine. My gf is 5ft2 and she has sat on one and is very comfortable on it
hi I'm 5.6 with knee replacements I have a HD street rod and kill my knees, is this suitable ?how tall are you ? thxs fred
I'm 6ft. Hard to comment really if it would be ok for you, get a longer test ride on one to see what you think

Ah man I loved the lextech exhaust!
Excelente video. Un saludo desde España. Thanks.

Perfect bike for you
Where to buy 2021 rebel 500
Is the fuel economy on this bike any good? I commute to work about 120-130 miles per week and I'm so used to sticking £6 in my 125 tank weekly 😭
They say 67mpg and that sounds about right to me. So will be a bit more, at £1.24 a litre that'll be £10.94 a week. But I think that's a fiver well spent 😉
@@TommyBarnezTV I shall bear that in mind, as long as it sits at 70mph comfortably I'm happy! 😊
@@TommyBarnezTV I'm currently getting 85mph on mine according to the computer ...mpg sorry
Does the cowl on the light help with wind?
No I wouldn't say so. If it helps a bit it's not noticeable
Love the pipes, the stock 2020 pipe is ugly as sin and sounds wimpy, so I'll be getting a new one, wish they had the S versions here. Cheers
You could probably order the items online to make it an S version, but would be more expensive. Personally I'd get the cowling and upgrade the seat to a dark brown leather. I'd then chop the back off and sort out a side mounted number plate holder, would be awesome 👌
Is filtering what we call lane splitting here in California? Because that’s legal here in California and most states think we’re crazy also 🤣
It amazes me that so many states over there dont allow it! So much safer.
That's one of reasons to own a bike, so long as it's done with care it's safe but you do have to use care.
whats the colour of this Rebel?
Black
Nice landscape
Bike with a low seat height, Triumph Street Twin :)
Awesome bike :)
Sounds good.
Great video the only thing I liked about the bike was the sound stay safe 🇬🇧👍🏻
Thanks!
i wish it didn't have the feet forward position as its fairly small and puts all your weight on your bum, so no good for long trips.
Seat is pretty comfortable, im blessed with a bit of derriere padding too which helps 😀
Looks nice. Sounds nice.
Those are nice 👍
