  • In search for the best beginner cruiser motorcycle, I decided to buy the 2020 Honda Rebel CMX500. I compare the Rebel 500 versus its competitors: Kawasaki Vulcan S and Yamaha Star Bolt and share some of the reasons why this is the best beginner bike.
    0:00 - Intro, exhaust, walk-around tour
    0:45 - Honda Rebel 500 First Ride
    2:00 - Why ride small bikes?
    3:47 - Honda Rebel 500 vs Triumph Street Twin
    4:59 - 2020 model overview & upgrades
    7:30 - Honda's Best Beginner Bike
    9:13 - Highway test
    9:39 - Handling & Ergonomics
    10:54 - Rebel vs Competitors (Vulcan S, Bolt)
    13:17 - Future plans
    14:08 - Bonus
    The Vulcan and Bolt are fantastic bikes with more power and highway capability, but I think for urban riding around town the Rebel 500 wins it.
    Let me know what you think of the Honda Rebel in the comments, and please subscribe to join our growing community!
    Ride safe.

    I just saw this video now two years after you posted. At the age of 71 I decided to buy a bike. Looking at whats available and my level of skill I decided on a Rebel 500 and drove a brand spanking new one out of the dealership in June 2023. I agree with all of your points with an added one for our older folks and that is its weight. I'm not afraid of dropping a 900 pound 1800cc bike that I lost hold of at a stoplight or something. I have been loving it a lot. I added an Amazon luggage rack and I am able to keep an expandable 40-60 liter pack on there all of the time. I keep all my little things in there with plenty of room to bring home some groceries or takeout. I get about 60 mpg and I'm 5'10" and 200 pounds. Good luck with your channel and always ride safe.

    I can't wait to get into an MSC and start riding. I've always wanted a bike, and now that I been researching and came to the conclusion that Scramblers are my favorite bike and then a blackout cruiser. Now, being a beginner and not wanting to spend lots of cash and crossing the line too much into toy territory, I feel a 350 to 500 is the sweet spot for my highway commute. I'm a heavy dude, at 110 kilos and 1.85, but I'm not a speed person. I'm a grown 34 year old man with small children that depends on me not doing stupid things like going above speed limit and getting killed or being pulled over. My current commute vehicle is a 2003 honda Accord V6 that gets bad gas economy and just with the amount I'll save on a 500cc, the bike will pay itself. Also, insurance here in California is too expensive for new riders and is the most expensive state, but cruiser like the rebel I'll be saving half compared to types of bikes.
    Right now my two top bikes I'm looking for are the 500 rebel or Husqvarna Svartpilen.....Sadly there are non in my area.

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a solid plan and the Rebel is certainly excellent on fuel. I too am not a speed demon in any way and the Rebel is perfect balance between performance and practicality in my opinion. Ride safe ✌️

    yup, i am 66 yrs old, 5' 6'' 135 lbs. i seriously wanted a Honda Fury. sooo glad i bought the 2019 Honda Rebel 500. good looking bike, fast enough for my little butt. i love it. only had mine for 3 weeks now, i work during the week, ride it to work, about 15 min. from work, and it's been raining the past 3 weekends which sucks, because i want to ride for at least 50- 60 miles for once to see if the seat complaints are real. mine handles really well, again it's quick. mine is all black with an orange tank, looks reall cool. people love it, as do i. the Fury would have been too much bike for me just to get back into riding. so yeah, me be a happy camper with my 500.

    So I'm still watching but wondering, did you own the Bolt or similar or what? Own the Bolt. Getting kind of tired of the weight and I pretty much just ride in city and low speed practice also. The Bolt gets hot and the weight is great for highway. I have wanted a Rebel since before I started riding. Riding the rebel was very uninspiring and the brakes were terrible. I wanna love it though, it did really great at jumping into highway traffic, I liked that a lot... just no torque. On the OTHER hand that 500cc engine and throttle actually did what I was telling it to do unlike the Bolt that takes getting used to. In low speed stuff that throttle does not like to twist at the start. Overall I like everything about the Bolt but wanna go back to a small bike so I'm really looking at the Rebel.

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not own the Bolt but I've ridden a couple different cruisers before pulling the trigger on the Rebel. The biggest factor to decide against the Bolt was the weight as you mention - I don't do a ton of highway and don't really need the power, so I downsized from a Scrambler to this Rebel. Absolutely love it, it does highway as I need it to on the odd occasion, and it's amazing in the city. Try to give a 2020 or newer model a try because they upgraded a lot of things including the brakes. I think you'll be surprised! Ride safe ✌️

      @RideYEG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the type of riding you want to do. I like nimble bikes and I don’t ride highway as much as I need the power for so I much prefer the feel of the Rebel over the Street Twin.

      Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one! After riding it for a couple months on longer trips my knees will start aching. How tall are you?

      @@RideYEG im 5.10 and after a 2 or 3 hours rides my knee were aching. Could be my knees tho haha. I went with a cb650r for my first bike and its perfect for me.

      @@tobie-pierrebeaulieu2307 That's great to hear. Those 650's sound amazing. I had a CBR500 before the Rebel and the riding position is surprisingly comfortable! Ride safe.

      Yup I’ve done so a handful of times. Wouldn’t recommend it for long rides but in the city it’s fine.
      Although my partner and I are relatively small and combine under 250lbs just to keep in mind.

      Try to save up! Even if it’s just a small amount over time it can add up quickly. Or perhaps you can look into the Rebel 300?

    Seems like the long life a motorcycle can offer is 25 yrs or Way more! 9 bike's in two years is not the bike being enough but rather yourself being consistently unsatisfied!!

      I just love trying different bikes. Coincidentally, the Rebel is the longest I’ve owned so far - I still have it!😂
