    I bought my first MG111's when they first came out and replaced then with a pair of MGIII Improved! They were around between the III and the IIIA. Can't remember which had which but there were changes to crossover slope, tie downs, .... I think the Improved might have had a crossover change and the A the physical change?
    I now have 1.7i's (with bad mid panel) and thinking of 3.7i.

      @@OCDHIFiGuy Sold my original III's to a church to replace their organ and sound system! There were rooms above and to each side of the Altar where the physical pipes were for the organ. It had died and they could not afford to fix it. So I mounted the III's against the floor/ wall intersection and sealed the rest of the opening. Basically the III's as a driver in a virtual infinite baffle enclosure. The sound was incredible and because of how they loaded to the church, intelligibility was exception even at the back!

Had Tympani 3's in main room at the store I worked at in the Valley and drove the p*ss out them with an AR SP-10 and an Electron Kinetics Eagle amp (Jon Iverson built, he lived in AZ but hung out too much in NV, disappeared and was rumored to be residing in an interstate abutment) 300 watts per powerful for it's time blew up lotsa ribbons, and got good at replacing them. I admit I wasn’t much of a Magnepan fan. This video really changed my mind. The thought process, philosophy, the crazy amount to attention and labor to get a special sound. Does anyone know how long these speakers last compared to cone speakers? Also D class amp??

    • @OCDHIFiGuy
      @OCDHIFiGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These speakers last a long time. The new models have an even LONGER duty life due to using foil, rather than heavier round wire that after like 25 years may de-laminate from the membrane. MAGNEPAN even will rebuild 40 year old Tympani ONE if you send them in !! Companies like MAGNEPAN are few and far between any longer...

    • @wishuwerehere73
      @wishuwerehere73 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So in some ways they last longer than cone speakers. I noticed that several of my speakers with long excursion drivers, the surrounds have gotten malformed. A lot of the new speakers with the smaller 5”-6.5” drivers move a lot and I’m thinking they mechanically wear faster. I heard the older magnepan 3.6 years ago and I was astounded.

  • @arthurpug
    @arthurpug 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well that answers the burning question I had over why the left LRS speaker has three 'tie downs' and the right only one - I thought it was dodgy manufacturing. I bought mine second hand in the UK (where they retail at well over twice the US price) just cos I always wanted to hear maggies. They are slightly ballsier & less transparent than Quad ESL 57s & I still use Tannoy Gold's for reference but it's a joy to enjoy their soundstaging. Thanks America! Now for some horns...

    I haven't even watched yet but I can tell this is going to be a great tour. I'm even more sure about that than knowing that Joe Biden is the BIG GUY!🤔🤫🤭😉 After watching this 1st video I will say, I wish you would have asked about changing the fuse to the ones you recommend and all the other things that you particularly do to make the speaker sound much but better. Why they don't do that from the factory!🤔😇 Maybe that's in the next video? We'll see!😬

    I love these factory tours, especially this one, as I own a pair of 1.7i's. But why Isn't the second guy miked up?? We can hardly hear him talking. Also, considering the supposed huge backlog of orders, why is the factory not a hive of activity, but almost completely empty of people working?? I don't care what time it is, they should be working. Magnepan - what are you thinking?! If mark's dad is production manager, why the hell doesn't he employ more people to build them, as you have such a huge backorder situation? I saw a very large amout of speakers ready for testing/evaluation, why Isn't there someone doing that job 24/7, or at least use a two shift system? From personal experience, attempting to deal with this company, I would suggest the management needs a REAL shakeup!
    Also, why was the view of the listening room so so brief? That would have been interesting to see exactly how they listen in what kind of environment - or were you stopped?

    It’s unbelievable they are still in business selling giant resistors that sound. I had the 3.5’s and dumped them quickly. Bought them off a guy for $600. Probably if not the worse speaker I’ve ever owned. The violins sound like they are 7 feet tall. The female voice the size of a 7 foot tall woman. Good luck to them.

      LOL, Its due to over demand.... Better to be slow and well done than rushed and botched, I say... They are worth the wait.
