Thank god I found this video, mine broke while camping, it wasn’t a pretty site. I’m back home now and will seek to repair my shattered shitter, Many thanks, a new subscriber
What a lifesaver you are!! I just broke my cassette here on the Dordogne. Struggled to fix it with no success. Wondered if there was a TH-cam video....there was!! All sorted now. Holiday continues....thank you very much.
Thank you so much. I realized I had this problem an hour ago. I emptied the cassette this evening and I was going to use the WC for the first time. (We're starting our 15 days holydays in Pyrenees Mountains) TRUE PANIC 😱😱 Thanks God (or whatever) for TH-cam tutorials, and specially to you for your video. You really saved our hollydays. You're a HERO and your memory will remain in our family for generations.
I shouldn’t laugh but I am in joy that I saved your holiday. How incredible to be travelling the Pyrenees mountains!!!!! So jealous. Hope you have the most amazing holiday. A simple subscription to my channel would bel lovely 😉
It has happened to us as well, interestingly also when I was cleaning it, one thing to point out, the bit you slid out can slide in on the other side and then acts in the same way as the wood to open it all up 👍🏻
Well that is very handy to know! I don’t often take my garage with me ha ha. So that is a great tip. Thankyou. And I’m sure others reading this will appreciate. Cheers
I’m extremely grateful for that comment. I’m not known for bringing out lots of videos and frequently but I do try my best to make sure when I do it’s good quality and entertaining. Thankyou. Hope you enjoy the rest. Take care
Thank you. You got me out of big hole while on site. Had exactly this problem and your video got me sorted. Luckily had ppe gloves. Didn’t quite have the right side wood but a spare steady wood block helped turn the cylinder.❤
What a fab video, I had a similar issue when getting our motorhome prepped for an upcoming holiday. You’ve saved me the cost of a new cassette at £140. Love the fact that you don’t waffle on like a lot of people do, straight to the issue and how to fix it. Many thanks 😊
Had exactly the same problem caused through cleaning. The video was a replica of what happened to me and the tip on how to repair came as a big relief. Thank you for sharing!
What a great tip I never new you could take the toilet apart like that Well i no now what to do .Do not shake to much I have just shown the wife this vid her reply was no shit,
Hi... great and very useful video. we did one recently about the 'Horrors' of emptying a caravan cassette lol... I doubt if anyone actually likes doing it lol....good to see you here and have fun take care Paolo and Roger aka 'The Camp Caravanners'
Hey Gents. Thankyou very much for commenting and the compliment. It’s certainly not a job a I look forward to doing. And the blue does a job but it’s not all blue when it comes out is it. Ha. Take care
Thanks for that handy tip. We’ve just bought a nearly new (11 month old Swift Sunrise 580). We’re not expecting any major issues with the Swift, but I’m guessing this sort of thing could happen at any time. Had I not seen your video, and experienced the same thing that happened to you, then we would have assumed that we would have needed a new toilet cassette. Thanks again…I’ve now subscribed! 😃
You can’t go wrong with a swift. And I’m sure you won’t have any Issues. But you’re right it really doesn’t take much for this issue to occur but if it does. You know what to do. I appreciate your subscription thankyou.
Great video Rob. It’s very important to carry out a One minute risk assessment before carrying out any task as you never know what sh*t you might encounter 👍
Not sure if anybody has mentioned it but you can open top using the slide cover as a lever. Not everybody has a lump of 4” x 2” hanging around and it did the job when i opened & cleaned it.
Stripped one of these completly down last week after 5 years of use it had a scale inside like a kettle. Used 2 dishwasher tablets dissolved in hot water and then topped up with coldand left for a couple of days, giving it a good shake for a minute a couple of times before emptying. Opened up the slide valve but appeared scaled up like a kettle inside, but not slimey, so opened the large cover in a similar fashion to this video. Took ot all the stainless steel screws and scrubbed the inside and all removed parts with an old kitchen brush that had been relegated the motorbike cleaning duties, untill clean looking with soapy water, then reassembled. Incidentally I had been intending to replace the seals but the large round cover seal looked like new and was given a smear of silicone grease (rubber friendly) to reduce the torque required to refit cover and the slide valve seal was removed by unscrewing the seal retaining plate on the underside of the cover and again inspection and a good scrub showed no signs of perishing or any signs of mechanical wear to the defined edges of the seal face. Seal was refitted with a smear of silicone grease and works perfectly, Ihave heard some say the lubricate the slide valve with vaseline but I would imagine that it may not be compatible with the seal material. My motorhome is 12 years old and I have no reason to believe that the seal has been replaced, Ive owned for 5 yrs and the seal has loads of life in it yet! Great video, it really is no harder thanthis to take the top off, I didn't even use the wood, only the sliding grey cover applied from the outer end as the levering tool.....carefully! Recommend having a look while at home for fammiliarisation, then if you ever get a problem while you are camping abroad, you wont be scared to try and carry out a "field" repair!
Cheers Neil sounds like you did a great job on yours!!! And thanks for the tip someone else said the same thing a out the cassette sliding cover as the lever. Great idea as I never even thought of that.
@@thebigtow I had my wife hold the cassette on the ground and used my hands on the llid surface trying to turn that whilst applying as little force as was needed on the sliding cover to get it turning. Putting it back is less risky as you will have lightly lubricated the lid seal. Maybe you could do a full stripdown video as your presentation and video skills are so good!
Hey Sean. Thank you for your great comment. It’s Thetford seal lubricator great for any rubber seals around your leisure vehicle. From lockers to the toilet seals. Hope that helps.
I’ve got the same set up but I’ve tried pulling the toilet cassette without closing flap in the caravan and I’ve broken the rotary valve that opens the flap Could you give any advice on how to get into the toilet to refit this piece Many thanks if you reply
Not seen this come apart like this, but I've experienced seal failure, sticking float level and various failed electronics boards. You can actually use the sliding door reversed as the Lever if you have no wood the correct size.
Yeah I think I will make videos on these in th future and your right. I made a short which can be seen on my channel when a few people told me about the sliding cover. Cheers.
can you explain how the THETFORD VT90/C400 TOILET SPACER IS FITTED OR WHAT IT DOES PLEASE = cannot pick up from supplier no measurements online , thanks
Hi ill be honest having never used the C400 im not entirely sure, however i have found the measurements and a little more information that it appears you have managed to find... take a look ...www.caravansplus.com.au/670mm-wide-curved-toilet-spacer-suit-thetford-c402-p-12669.html sorry i can't be of much more help. Rob
So the only thing that will stop it coming out is the that the little orange knob on the top of the cassette is facing the right direction for it to be removed. Have you tried opening and closing using the slider on your toilet to make sure that is closed properly. As this issue although it would prevent your cassette for being put in your toilet, it’s shouldn’t prevent it from being removed.
Think yourself lucky you have this newer cassette, old ones you can’t remove that disc and you have to repair it just through the little hole. Not good. Mines done something similar a few times. And yeah doesn’t take much of a shake. Wanted to say something childish and smutty about giving things too much of a shake, but I won’t 😊
I shall think myself lucky then David. I would not like to attempt that through a small hole. Well that’s makes too us, the word knob was used a fair bit in that video! 😉
Cheers. I created a short on my channel explaining this as I never realised this at first. Although I do prefer the wood as it’s a lot easier but we don’t always have a piece of wood with us so we ha. Thanks for your comment.

I've just looked at a couple more of your videos, they are very professional. You surely work in graphics or the media. Can't wait for more from you.

This happened to me, it was caused by me! I tried to pull the toilet cassette out when the valve inside wasn’t fully closed.
Great video. Subscribed
Thankyou very much. Well I nearly did the same thing trying to get this in the cassette holder before I realised there was an issue. Ha
Good video Rob. Keep doing what you are doing.
Thanks Rahul!! Appreciate it

Yes someone has mentioned that as I wasn’t aware and currently working on a short about it. Thanks for commenting and watching I appreciate it.
I was going to mention that too
Great work well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
That's a great tip I'm going to get me a piece of wood or similar to carry in the motorhome thanks for sharing
It's definetely easier than using the plastic guard on the Cassette that's for sure. Thanks for commenting
Thanks very informative
Glad it was helpful!

Great vlog

Glad you enjoyed it

Hey Sean. Thank you for your great comment. It’s Thetford seal lubricator great for any rubber seals around your leisure vehicle. From lockers to the toilet seals. Hope that helps.

Good luck. Ha ha

Exactly Graham!!! It still seems strange to me but the fact I had opened it before I cleaned it I knew it worked before hand. Very strange
Tip top ta
Thankyou very much.

Well as you say Thank God you'd already cleaned it out !
As well as the rubber mitts, my ensemble would have had to include a mask as well 😅
If you turn the removable flap round it acts as a tool. You won't need the wood.
Cheers. I created a short on my channel explaining this as I never realised this at first. Although I do prefer the wood as it’s a lot easier but we don’t always have a piece of wood with us so we ha. Thanks for your comment.
