- I rushed outside to capture Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad locomotive 501 heading north on this Tuesday evening when I noticed he was there again. I decided to cross over and walk past him, to see if he was filming this train or watching me. After the train passes, I walked up and left my camera going... He says he's thinking about getting an PPO "Personal Protection Order" against me because he says it is me who is harassing him.. Just feet from my house, yet he lives 1/4 mile away and comes here. This video is unedited because I don't want to be accused of doing something I didn't.

I remember that video where the female trooper gave you a hard time when you were on a public roadway. She was in the wrong. I think you should make a complaint about the way she handled that. I was doing a little research on that road and it does appear to be a public road especially considering that tax dollars go to maintaining it. That was an interesting conversation with the guy in the car also. Lol. Yesterday I took a friend along with me and I showed him a sign right next to a public sidewalk that said photography and filming was prohibited. We took some selfies by it for my videos

Years ago there was a derailment in my town and my daughter walked down a public road beside the tracks and a train detective was there telling her she couldn’t film the wreckage from the road, I went back to the road with her and politely told him to go to hell.
I can't stand RR cops I've had my share of run ins with em it always gets me when they roll up or approach you about being on the property and you ask them where the property lines are and they're clueless I posted a couple of encounters on here.

He has no right to stalk you. Turn the video over to the local authorities and get a restraining order on him.
He just got a bunch of folks in big trouble. Saying he goes on cab rides with them. If they allow unauthorized people in the cab, they can be fined and fired.....

Jason needs to send that part of the video to the railroad.
It's not a class 1or 2 railroad so I don't know if anything would come of it if they even care.
Best to keep your distance and just film the trains Jason. Kinda like you don't go poking a stick in an active bee hive. I realize he is going to show up on the road there, but don't confront him, it is not worth the aggravation. Stay safe my friend!

There was a guy where I worked, who had a Neuro-Muscular condition, and when he talked, it was like his body was PUSHING the words out of his brain, and mouth! Another employee from another unit nicknamed him 'Rocky', but thankfully not around him. One day, he asked us, if he should send the mother of a friend who died from the condition a sympathy card, and THAT was when we found out, it was Really dangerous for him, and HE wasn't allowed to drive. MAYBE the guy in the car SHOULDN'T be EITHER !

I understand your frustration with Matt. His behavior seems a little strange but I wanted to point something out. If I heard him right...at a little over 5 minutes into the video he tries to tell you that he does have problems. He says that you have "no idea" and that you don't care. You may have missed an opportunity to help him and maybe even make a friend. Who knows?
I don't know why I felt compelled to comment. I do know that you have a good heart because it shows in your videos. Just something to consider.

The motorist on the other hand, seems to be a few fries short of a happy meal. That being said, not impressed with this video especially by the uploader. Okay, everyone to there corners. First, Jason. The fact your property happens to be literally right there doesn't really mean anything. Of course you certainly have the right to watch, observe, photograph, film, video these trains. However, that doesn't mean you can dictate, order, push etc others on public streets no matter what they're doing so long as it is not against the law. That fellow has every single right to sit in his car until doomsday unless there are laws, city, county ordnances etc that specifically state he cannot. Certainly during the day. At night, that would be different because most people agree such activities are not normal unless there is a good reason.
As for the fellow in the car. Sure, you're not breaking any known laws, I'm aware of, but Jason makes valid points. His property is his property. To that end, if he feels something isn't right or that what you're doing is suspicious, he has the right to either speak to you about or contact the authorities ( police). You should understand that Jason lives there. He's very active regarding the observations of these trains. He sees you just sitting there with no camera for example and his suspicions are justified. Me, I'd move on. Look elsewhere. Or, get to know Jason, befriend him and talk about trains. If you're truly there to see the trains, then you both have that much in common. Work it out, but for God's sake, don't turn this into some he said she said situation.
I don't live near any railroad, but I own a very expensive ranch in Texas. I've seen it all. If I see a suspicious vehicle, I go right to it, if its on my road and I'm armed always. Laws here work on behalf of the ranchers. Not those whose intentions might be nefarious or criminal. Well, you both are not in Texas. I hope you both can break out a few beers, share some train speak and let bygones be bygones.
One final note: Both of you are not too bright when it comes to safety. I wouldn't be all to fired up to start anything with some total stranger sitting in a vehicle or walking. Its just plain dumb in this day and age. At least until you both know its safe. One or the other could be a criminal or they could be a cop too. In either case, I'd exercise better judgment regarding approaching someone until I really knew. Again, here on my ranch, I'm armed, as are all my ranch hands.

The head bobbing and spastic hand movements tell me this guy is very close to snapping, like he's itching for a physical confrontation. How else to explain a person who is making it a point to get into every video you film at this location? Train fans as a whole are great people, most of them know to avoid being in someone's film shot as it's a basic common courtesy every rail fan knows and extends. Except for this guy. And he IS stalking you. If he were not, he'd have moved on after the train had passed, or proceeded across the intersection after coming to a stop. Instead, he stopped and waited cause his business, his job.....is to stalk you. Might want to consult with the local police, state police or a town lawyer. Cause the stalking has now been upgraded to direct verbal confrontation. Talk to the police and a lawyer. DO NOT talk to him anymore. And be safe out there, will ya?

I've had a railfan recently threatening the cops on me for railfanning at a church and said that I act stupid and also said he talked to the pastor of that church to have me removed from church property and get a trespass notice on me where I couldn't railfan there

Some people have mental problems that are hard to describe. Jason, you have proof that he makes a point to always get in your segments while you film trains going by. I suspect he is very lonely and doesn't have many friends that get along with him. That is just my opinion.

Definitely something wrong with Matt. You have a right to be on public property. Your job is filming trains and Matt is doing whatever he can to harass you and interfere with your job/business. Maybe you may want to send the video to the sheriff's department/police department and see what they suggest. Anywho, it's great that you are filming all interactions with Matt as it seems he has a way of misrepresenting the truth, eh.

If you just ignore the guy, that may piss him off more than acknowledging his presence. As long as he stays off your property. His thinking that he has more RIGHT than you do to be on RR property because he has a rapport with some crews is pure BS. Neither of you have any right to trespass on RR property. I don’t recall ever seeing you on RR property. In fact the crews could get fired for giving him cab rides without proper authority. Maybe you could go to the RR management and get the proper authority to get a cab ride for the day to do a story on a day with a RR operating crew. I wonder what he would do if he saw that posted on YT or other social media. He actually acts and talks like he has some sort of a mental problem. Do you know if he has a job, and if so what type of work he does?
