Superb. Just played and transcribed it. I can do all these licks individually but the way you pull them together is really just…great. Keep these brilliant shorts coming Pete.
Neat timing placing the Sus on the last eighth note of the measure. That really let's the tonality feel like it's expanding as it sustains into the next measure. Very cool idea.
It sounds complex at first but it is true that for a big part it is basic blues patterns. BUT the phrasing is just amazing which makes it sound incredible!
U gentlemen r still, hands down, the freshest stop on TH-cam! I am an old Blues guitarist and slide man but Open Studio always keeps it percolating aka bleau
Man I love you state clearly not to overuse it. Sometimes the weird chords can become overwhelming, you keep it super fresh. Absolutely amazing playing :-)
Crushing it in-the-back-pocket,,, I can feel the Funk of these 'SuS' chords & begin to practise them (just don't know their proper names as I play by ear-haha) Thanks for the 'SimpleStuff' lesson, guys😁💙👍
I’m a drummer, so obviously I don’t know much about chords, but those “sus” chords remind me of Steely Dan. They are beautiful. I’m like one of those monkeys jumping around the monolith at the beginning of the movie 2001, when it comes to understanding chords and harmonies. Very excited. Don’t know how works. 🐵
Believe it or not, you’re learning it by hearing it! Being able to hear it makes you a better drummer! And it’s not “rocket surgery” 😅 (as an old teach of mine used to say), I’d be happy to share some excellent resources if you want to check into them - I’m not selling anything - just passing along free stuff I’ve gotten for free!
I doubt it. All the three people you mentioned happened to be able to do exactly what Jazz musicians do and probably more. Mozart and Beethoven could improvise sonatas and cadenzas on the spot. Bach could improvise entire fugues on the spot. This would not be something that would captivate their interest.
@@pjbpiano OP is most definitely separating technique from genre and application. They're not saying they'd be impressed by jazz piano technique, but rather the application of theory that creates the unique harmonies of modern jazz.
@@pjbpiano So true, I doubt hearing an entirely new genre of music being made often with a number of instruments that hadn’t even been conceived yet would be of interest at all to some of the world’s greatest composers of the past. They’d have to, what - be interested in music?
@@yoosh9034, hang on. I see what’s going on here. Do you think the only music that existed when these composers were alive where the music they wrote? You think they didn’t hear other forms of music that they actively considered inferior to theirs which is why they pushed their pen to the absolute limit when writing their music? I think it’s possible that most people on this thread do not know the absolute capacity to musical depth and study that Bach, Mozart and Beethoven had to say something like Jazz would have absolutely peeked their interest and fascination. If people did, they would know that on the contrary, these composers might actually heavily disagree with how jazz ignores several standards of high level contrapuntal harmony and reduces itself to simply melodic extemporizations of select chords (which they absolutely knew how to do to a very high degree to ability-on top of having top tier perfect pitch abilities and pitch memory). Imagine considering someone who composed his historic ninth symphony whilst being completely deaf and thinking this is what would fascinate him.
Damit, how can I listen to more of such music ? please tell me if you have done records, or whoever play this so groovy style. Thanks and keep grooving 8
Music is a language and these guys are FLUENT.
Timed language to be precise, harder than it looks
@@SamA-yf7up all languages are timed, all have inner rhythm and flow, just like music
Now take it through all 12 keys🤯, and you're good to go! 😂
Cool, I will. See u back when I’m done, in a year and a half 😂
Real lol😂😂
Beat me to it, lol
Happy practicing.
Lol
“Simple Stuff” 😅😂😢
Lmaoooo he dissed us in the most respectful way
Its only a couple of chords.
The rithm do...

Nothing to it, I keep it in my back pocket.
@@fishsmellbad1862I mean, we all knew exactly what he meant. Are you here correcting on behalf of the teachers? Twit.
I tried to play it and ended up keeping pretty much everything in my backpocket all the time.
😅 Very good joke ! 👍

😂😂😂😂😂
Thats my problem😂
Production values on this site are through the roof 🎉
Their scores suck, but other than that yes.
@@bazingacurta2567 I only watch the videos.
@@KirillBenIgor You can see the scores in the video. It's a huge part of it. They're very often very sloppily done.
@@bazingacurta2567 first: sorry for me being stupid. I'll try to check that out!
The funky drummer!
He knew what was coming !
This is so sick. Easy for guitarists. Love this channel more with each post; truly will go down as perhaps the GOAT free jazz resource on YT
These cats are the coolest!
Love this camera man

OMG I absolutely love this channel! You guys are crazy good players and fantastic teachers. Thank you for all you guys do. Very inspiring!
This is not just great music theory teaching but also eartraining!
👍👍👍 There's a whole nother lesson in double stops and blues grace notes in there too. The extra stuff that PM brings.

Enjoying that bass too 😎

Drummer is a legend
Perfect jam! * this bass is like (Thor's hammer), Strong and beautiful. You are fantastic players
the absolute masters of this stuff are Steely Dan, God bless them
This is the typical Ramsey Lewis style. great stuff!!!
That high hat nice and clicks
"Simple stuff"was a flex I wasn't ready to get lol sounds awesome
Jazz music is like combining fish sauce and lime. Sharp and polarising tastes. But paired together to make something amazing.
It’s better than that, haha! 😊

Steely Dan sus's are a regular feature on this channel if you watch it enough, and sometimes they'll even cite Steely Dan along the way.
Dude on the Bass is too cool.
I could listen to this ALL DAY!!!
I would listen to this stuff in my car, even with the talking, just awesome music!
Whats really cool is playing those last2 chords Bb13sus4 , B13 sus4 and then go back to the C7 and back into the groove. That would sound very groovy
Check out 'street life' if you don't know that song :)
@@ikkejick Oh my God thank you!!!! I was frantically searching where I know that combination from.
errrffffffff the bluesyness 😮💨😮💨
I love these guys
I've watched it hundreds times !! So good 🎹🎶
gotta love those sixteenth notes on the hat.
if a drummer can't do that with one hand I don't wanna play with him.
Hot damn, this was nice. Fire, right from the intro drum fill. I've listened to this on repeat *many* times now.
Beautiful feel. Joyous. Marvellous
So simple, so fun to jam solo over. Great video.
Significant groove, just great.
Absolutely excellent, need this cool stuff as ringtone
I just learned today from this video that F13 implies the 9
