Not only has this brilliant actor not won an Oscar yet, but he also doesn't have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's a crime right there. They give these bullshit newcomers a star the first year they break out. An actor like Gary who has been in the business for nearly 40 year's, and he still doesn't have a star. Complete bullshit right there.
Actually, to get a star on the walk of fame, you submit a form with a check to the local Hollywood city hall and then you get your star. It's like this, there are stars and there are artists. Oldman is an artist. Think of Van Gogh and you have Gary Oldman.
Oldman disappears into every role that he lays his hands into, that its so jarring to see his humble, calm personality on shows like this. He's unique in being able to embody larger than life characters like Sid Vicious and most recently, Winston Churchill as seamlessly as painfully subtle and underplayed characters like George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Shelly Runyon from The Contender and Commissioner Gordon from the Dark Knight. One of the greatest, most underappreciated actors ever and I hope he wins an Oscar on his second try.
Hi - I am a Brit and a MASSIVE fan of Gary Oldman. I agree with everything you said. I have been a fan of Oldmans since he did the football hooligan movie 'The Firm'. One of my absolute fav actors. Dracula, True Romance, Leon, State of Grace really cemented him as one of the greats for me. His presence and energy is truly something else.
I love how enthusiastic Fallon when Oldman’s doing the impressions. Like we all got our own DeNiro or Walken but it’s still so fun to hear someone else’s, especially someone unexpected like Gary Oldman.
@DH, how is he stupid? I know it because I've seen interviews with him before and read his biography. Vam The Anomaly obviously hasn't. I guess you associate knowing useless pop culture with intelligence. 🤣🤣🤣
Well, during an interview, he said that he kind of lost his accent after living in the US for so long. He even had to hire an accent couch to retain it back.
okay first of all kudos to you for linking the article. However, what I inarticulately called bullshit on is re-learning his accent. It sounds like for TTSS he had to relearn English accents in terms of playing them because his normal accent in this interview is a South London accent, but in TTSS I believe it's RP? So I can understand that it's hard to do RP if you've been living in the US for so long. I say this as someone who is not from the UK but lives in London.
Gary Oldman is one of my favourite actors. I had heard of him long ago, but I never got round to watching any of his movies until I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the start of this year. He is bloody brilliant.
The Firm (Not the Tom Cruise one), True Romance, The Fifth Element & Leon/The Professional. Some of Gary's best movies. He also directed a movie called Nil By Mouth which is also excellent.
GrV Kar Honestly, I think.he doesn't even care. Oscar is just pompous fake Hollywood reward. It is not a proof of someone's great acting talent. As we could see over the years from the bad actors and.actresses who got it and even more from those amazing talents that never recieved one. As I said who cares if Gary get an Oscar. It is so irrelevant when you look at his amazing talent
No Oscar for this man .he and Viggo mortensen, are the two most versatile actors I ve seen.there are times I see a role and I m saying “nice acting “and then I notice it’s. Gary oldman.unrecognisable In every role !!
Agree with you about Oldman. But are you joking about mortensen??? He's a boring actor. You're comparing the two??? What has he ever been versatile in? I don't think he's a bad actor, but most definitely a so so, average actor , without much depth.
hello and happy new year !well vigo movies to check ,i m bad at titles but search the one he s playing lucifer, another one with demi moore where he plays the evil military douche ,gi jane is the name i believe, also history of violence and captain fantastic ,he is almost unrecognisable from role to role,if you haven t checked hust check !two other actors who have these chameleon trait in their acting ,jamie foxx and denzel washnigton !
happy new year . Guess we have a different definition of chameleon. I've seen various viggo movies. I think he's a very limited actor, were little depth or range. History of violence is a good example. Was a good movie because of the director, Cronenberg, but that could've been a tour de force role by viggo, and I thought he failed. Don't see it in Foxx either. Denzel Washington I think is a great actor. Again, guess we have different concept of chameleon. I think actors like oldman, sean penn, depp, hoffman, day lewis, streep, etc. are chameleon actors ,where they completely transform. I think Denzel is a great actor in that he has the depth of character, but it always seems to be denzel, which I don't mind with him, as he has the depth, so it still works. I don't find either depth or range with viggo, find him a boring actor.
it s a matter of taste anyway !for example i think depp is only good playing weirdos ,but i enjoy him ,as for chameleons ,blanchett and christian bale too!
I completely agree, Viggo is so underrated as an actor (Primarily I think that's because he doesn't do any of the Hollywood BS haha) but they're both incredible and they really do their research and really get absorbed into the person they're playing, Viggo's just incredible how far he'll go to make his performances a little more real.
Gary Oldman is one of the best actors on this earth! How humble he is, not believing he can do the part he´s given. But... maybe that´s why he´s so damn good! Some young (and even som older) movie stars have a lot to learn from him, both from his acting and his attitude!
"He (Winston Churchill) changed the course of civilisation (by standing up to Adolf Hitler)" - those words by Gary are so very true. And through terrific acting Gary Oldman brought the great man back to life in 'Darkest Hour'.
Happy B-day Gary Oldman. Call Of Duty Black Ops, Lost In Space, Air Force One, The Dark Knight & Rises... is awesome, loved it!! May the Peace be with u. From Harlingen Texas. March 21, 1958 March 21, 2020 through March 21, 3020
Yes, another seriously overlooked performance by The Academy; Oldman was incredible in so many films, esp. Immortal Beloved. It's really such a disgrace on The Academy's part that he only just received his 1st Oscar Nom. a coupla yrs. ago for playing George Smiley.

He's such a committed, gifted actor that he disappears once the camera rolls. Can't say the same about Jack Nicholson or De Niro, even though they're both great actors.
He played Congressman Sheldon Runyon in the 2000 film "The Contender." It took minutes for me to recognize him. Oldman is amazing. The DEA agent fom the Professional. Holy Shit. And then, there's this gem:
th-cam.com/video/DOxWmI1PipA/w-d-xo.html
One of my absolute fav actors. Dracula, True Romance, Leon, State of Grace really cemented him as one of the greats for me. His presence and energy is truly something else.
Mr Gary Oldman one of the best actor
Sheila Dey him and Mads Mikkelsen
you get likes because you're hot
Attractive people attract more attention. Get over it.
Some people don't get over it. Get over it.
Scott K i have. Believe me. I was trying to give an advice.
I love how enthusiastic Fallon when Oldman’s doing the impressions. Like we all got our own DeNiro or Walken but it’s still so fun to hear someone else’s, especially someone unexpected like Gary Oldman.
Gary is so good, I'm almost 50 and just found out he's English.
You mean British
London is in England and England is in Great Britain.
@DH ROFL
@DH, how is he stupid? I know it because I've seen interviews with him before and read his biography. Vam The Anomaly obviously hasn't. I guess you associate knowing useless pop culture with intelligence. 🤣🤣🤣
carmen mccauley Gary Oldman is English.
Simply put, when he takes a role , you don't know it's him, one of the The Greatest Actor I've seen
One of the greatest of all time
Gary Oldman's English? His American impression is phenomenal.
Were you born yesterday? Welcome to the world!
It is phenomenal!!!
Well, during an interview, he said that he kind of lost his accent after living in the US for so long. He even had to hire an accent couch to retain it back.
bullshit
okay first of all kudos to you for linking the article.
One of the versatile actors of all time.. much luv to Gary & also Jimmy. Both have entertained so many people for ages. They r epic.
Loved him in The Professional, The Fifth Element and True Romance.
Sid and Nancy.
MrGaimer i was trippin..like..Gary wasn’t in True Romance 😐..totally forgot..thought it was whiteboy day 😂
The f@#$n Drexl!
Don't forget Air Force one,
He's truly terrifying there, I think Harrison Ford really shit his pants there... hehe
You forgot Dracula and jfk
Gary is so handsome and talented. Love him so much!
He looks like he smells nice. Mmffph..
Watch him in TRUE ROMANCE .Enough said.
stacyblue1980 TRUE, HE LOOKS SO FANCY I BET HE SMELLS NICE AS FUCK.
Gary Oldman is one of my favourite actors. I had heard of him long ago, but I never got round to watching any of his movies until I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the start of this year. He is bloody brilliant.
Watch Sid & Nancy so good.
The Firm (Not the Tom Cruise one), True Romance, The Fifth Element & Leon/The Professional. Some of Gary's best movies. He also directed a movie called Nil By Mouth which is also excellent.
Watch State of Grace
Isla Ross have you seen True Romance?
Watch Tinker Tailor when you're a grown up. Amazing performance!
I never thought I'd say this but Gary Oldman is adorable
What?! Are you new here?
Gary Oldman is one of the most underrated actors ever! I just simply love him. He should have won an Oscar for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
I wouldn't say he is underrated, but I would say he is underappreciated
His SIMON RITCHIE (Sid) in Sid and Nancy was PUUUUURRREEEEE GOLD!!!!
that's how I was introduced to him!
Like '97 I saw that the 1st time
He is one of the greatest to ever do it
ever to do ...what?
Acting
In top 10 best male actors of all time without a doubt
Wasted? He was a highlight!
If he doesn't win Oscar this year, then #WeRiot.
GrV Kar he won’t , he up against Daniel Day Lewis and Tom Hanks this year
GrV Kar Honestly, I think.he doesn't even care.
No DDL is here this year:)
GrV Kar chill out idiot
We'll be "Burning Down the House"
The edgiest version from The Used:
th-cam.com/video/1WNRtCzNaTc/w-d-xo.html
One of the very best.
Him in The Professional...that villain was so underrated..
Omg. I totally forgot that was him!
Great character!
Yes! He played Sid Vicious, too, in the movie biopic movie, check it out, its great.
I absolutely HATED that villain, in the best way. Like, actually hated him, and loved Gary Oldman for bringing that raw emotion out in me.
A complete psychopath played so well! That bathroom scene....
#GiveGaryOldmanAnOscar
No Oscar for this man .he and Viggo mortensen, are the two most versatile actors I ve seen.there are times I see a role and I m saying “nice acting “and then I notice it’s. Gary oldman.unrecognisable In every role !!
Agree with you about Oldman. But are you joking about mortensen???
He's a boring actor.You're comparing the two???
I completely agree, Viggo is so underrated as an actor (Primarily I think that's because he doesn't do any of the Hollywood BS haha) but they're both incredible and they really do their research and really get absorbed into the person they're playing, Viggo's just incredible how far he'll go to make his performances a little more real.
one of the best actors of all time
he's the best
The man. The legend. Every movie he's in he always nails his role.
The great thing about Gary Oldman, for all his acting ability and success, he has to be the least pretentious actor in Hollywood.
Gary Oldman is one of the best actors on this earth! How humble he is, not believing he can do the part he´s given. But... maybe that´s why he´s so damn good! Some young (and even som older) movie stars have a lot to learn from him, both from his acting and his attitude!
This is amazing. What a phenomenal actor.
Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of our time. #SidandNancy
Andrea Talbot -
"Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of our time"
Yep - but with Tom Hardy fast coming up on the inside rail...................
I watched a film called The Contender with Gary Oldman in it. I hardly recognized him.. Definitely worth a watch.
My favorite actor ever. HIs ability to meld into and out of a character is mind blowing. And what a great ear for accents! just one of the best!
Gary is amazing, truly one of the greatest actors of our generation.
Pure Genius... You got to love the man, both Gary and Winston.
What nobody ever talks about was how he played Beethoven. That was a phenomenal performance.
March 21, 1958
March 21, 2020 through March 21, 3020
Fifth Element, Book of Eli, Darkest Hour, and many more. He's just fantastic!
Gary Oldman is a phenomenal actor I am so happy to see him get a role that could actually get him a much deserved Oscar.
Unbelievable, definitely deserves the Oscar.
On top of all these amazing performances, he's now added the unforgettable Jackson Lamb in Slow Horses. By far my favorite character in the series!
He should have got an Oscar for Immortal Beloved. Such a good movie.
Yes, another seriously overlooked performance by The Academy; Oldman was incredible in so many films, esp. Immortal Beloved. It's really such a disgrace on The Academy's part that he only just received his 1st Oscar Nom. a coupla yrs. ago for playing George Smiley.
He also played a pretty good LEE HARVEY OSWALD in JFK (1991)
He did an awesome Oswald....!!! Held his face like him, mouth bends, lip pout, expressions, and everything....
That was him???
He plays a pretty good everything.
I saw that in the cinema, the only seat I could get was back and to the left.
@@Hellwyck I was only in the cinema for ten minutes, before the police rousted me out, falsely accusing me of assaulting a police officer named Tippet. I'm like, 'WTF!? I'm here for JFK'.
Immortal Beloved
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Léon: The Professional
a remarkable cross-section of his work showing his amazing range as an actor....and there's literally dozens more to see.
Did you ever see true romance?
The 5th Element. Although it's a cornball role, he's great as Zorg. Also, there's a surprisingly great performance by Chris Tucker.
Gary Oldman is a top class actor
Gary Oldman is the best of the best
My all time favorite actor ever
He’s a very talented actor. He played Sirius and Commissioner Gordon perfectly
he is so getting his first Oscar! there is no doubt about it! he truly gave the best performance not only of the year but in the las few years at least.
His deniro impression was on point. Facial expressions and everything. Gary Goldman is awesome.
Oldman could be the only person who could make me click on a Fallon video and tolerate Fallon
Gary Oldman as the villain in Leon!!! The scariest thing on two legs. When he is taking his “meds”, he made me want to hide under the table.
Thank you for following my page, support you showered on me ,I hope you never stop.
It took me a long time to realize Commissioner Gordon was Sirius Black when i was younger
wasim sultani I just realized that reading your comment.
wasim sultani and they all are Bram Stoker's Dracula! 🕵
He is just so good that you don't see Gary Oldman on screen when you're watching the characters.. you see the character.. I didn't even know that he was in a Friends episode and I have seen that episode 3-4 times.. he is that good
WHAAAT?
my absolute favorite DRACULA hands down!!💋💋💋💋💋
Brilliant actor. I remember him in The Professional and was awesome in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Uh, 'Bram' Stoker, not Abram..........sheesh ,do people ever read anymore....like books?.
dude, breathe. Lol
Hey dud, grow up, and stop reading emotion into comments.
The only one's who would comment to my comment, are illiterates, who get offended , as they can't read anymore.
martin woyzeck breathe man, lol no need to take offense at everything. ho humm
Can’t think of Gary Oldman without thinking of the move TRUE ROMANCE
I’m from the U.K., please tell me the appeal of Jimmy Fallon. He’s annoying af.
bmarkyt132 I’m from the U.S., I don’t understand it either.
He's annoying and disingenuous.
We're still wondering how he got the Tonight Show gig. It's a low point for American talk shows. The best interviewers from the USA are, for the most part, dead or retired.
bmarkyt132 chill out for fucks sake he probably isnt as bad as jonathon woss.
@John Savage I'm a Yank, but because of a previous relationship, I have spent lots of time in the UK. I understand the English accent is not for everyone. If you haven't already, give Graham Norton a try. You can find him on BBC America, His talk show has a bit of a different format than the American talk shows, which basically haven't changed since Johnny Carson. You like what you like and that's cool. Just offering a suggestion as to something you "might" find to your liking.
