    It a high-end interior with those details, with a nod to arts & crafts. Also, it breaks my heart!!! to see anything like this be demolished. it has value. Demo is the easy answer. Material for wall covering isn't as unusual as you might think. High end designers do this treatment frequently.

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, this one isn't guaranteed to be demolished, i just get the feeling it will be. Fingers crossed! Ya, pretty sure that's the first time i have upholstered walls before and i have been in a fair number of homes too. Maybe it is more popular in some areas compared to others. Thanks for the comment!!

    I adore this house, I don't even mind it being blue!
    Fabric on the walls was very common, back in Victorian times and earlier. Someone obviously took that idea and ran with it, but the fabric here is all much newer and more like upholstery fabric. Early cloth wall coverings were never this heavy duty.
    Our next door neighbours had a double set of French doors made a couple of years ago by a true wood craftsman, and the price tag was almost $8,000. Imagine what it would cost today to recreate the ones you just showed us! I sound like a broken record, but I pray that somebody does an architectural salvage here before it's all destroyed. You can't get the base materials any more to do such lovely woodwork.
    Great find James!
    Cheers...
    Marian 🇨🇦
    Sounds like it's on a very busy road though, which would be a deterrent to putting the energy into restoring this place.

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes one of the previous owners had an upholstery business on the property and he did the wall coverings as well as all the woodwork apparently. Yup, they don't build them like this anymore, will be a shame to see this one go. Thanks Marian!!

    Static spaces, this is my first time to see your channel I'm going to subscribe because I like the way you do your videos and this place is very beautiful the detail would the fabric on the walls used as wallpaper that was common back in those days I love the pocket doors in the walkways of the home the wood is very beautifully detailed and a very well kept up sorry to see this house go if it's going to be demolished it's just too bad that it couldn't be refurbished and maybe used again well thank you for sharing and God bless you

    Congrats SS! What a sweet find. All that beautiful woodwork. Its hard to believe that nobody painted any of it over the years. Which is a good thing. I never understood painting over woodwork, especially like that. Those pocket doors, the old etched glass, stained glass, fireplace-what a beauty. How strange that fridge was off & full🤔Every time I moved, I took my food. It looks like they went to the grocery store. Regardless, great find

    What an amazing house! So many rooms. In the states, they take large, older houses like that one and turn them into apartments. It seems like that was what happened to there. Cat pee on hardwood floors is notoriously difficult to remove! I'm glad the previous owner of the building kept the molding, staircases, doors, and glass door knobs.

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, i think there were three separate apartments in this home. It isn't very common when places are out in the country like this one was but larger homes in the city generally end up that way. Thanks for the comment!!

    I think the “wall paper” is what tapestries were years ago. Not positive in that. I do know that it wasn’t always paper. I love this house. I hope somebody restores it. Beautiful!! ♥️♥️♥️
    Who ever built that home put a lot of love into it. You can see that back in it’s time it was special!! 👍

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, definitely a really cool house for sure! The story goes, the owner had an upholstery business and he did all the walls himself, pretty cool eh? Thanks for the comment!!

  • @veronicamensch3160
    @veronicamensch3160 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I am guessing this would be in Eastern Canada. Fabric on the walls is very French and often found in chateaus there. Beautiful home, would love the hardware off those doors. All our doors have lost their charm because most have been painted. I would love to think the developer would retain this house and build aound it rather than pull it down. They will salvage all the doors, fireplace mantals, stained and etched glass, etc. sell for pretty penny. Our home is very early 1900s built by an MLA, but we could not afford to list it. Thank you for sharing with us.

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds great except for the painted wood doors, you could always strip them and then restrain. Hopefully this one doesn't get demolished but because of its location and the fact it's not protected by heritage status, it most likely will. Thanks for the comment!!

    The woodwork was beautiful. They really don’t build places with this kind of character anymore. It looked really charming until you mentioned the smell. A cat infestation *and* all the trash in the attic? It’d be hard to get rid of that. It’s sad that people just don’t take care of anything that isn’t theirs.

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I couldn't believe all the great woodwork in there, such a great place! I don't know what the deal was with all the garbage maybe the people that lived there last weren't worried about leaving the home a mess. Whoever lived on the lower floors definitely had a few cats too many! Thanks for the comment!!

      Don't blame the developers for not protecting heritage though, they are just a business fulfilling a need. @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know I have to always open the fridge! Oh the blue definitely looked good but the problem is painting brick is not a good idea. It stops the it from breathing and it can begin to rot from moisture getting trapped inside and when it starts to peel in about ten years, you have got a massive and expensive job trying to clean it off. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment!!

  • @jeannegayle6365
    @jeannegayle6365 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fabric is often used for rental properties on the walls as it is easy to put up and easier to remove for the renters. Doing one wall makes it a feature of the room. Depending on the fabric used it can be a really cheap alternative to paper wall paper. You see this all across N. America in rental properties, fairly common. That 2x6 door is very nicely done and in keeping with the room it is in......not ghetto at all, just needs some stain and varnish to finish it, extremely well made too.

As for the fabric, I'm pretty sure that's just what they used to use for "wallpaper" before wallpaper was invented. Some folks just still like doin' it that way. It is believed that the first wallpaper was created in China 200BC though popularity really began in the 1800's. The green flocked wallpaper seems to be from the 1960's made to look vintage though, of course, I'm not sure (but flocked was popular then). James pulled back a bit to show the old wallpaper and it's very similar to the newer. I noticed that in other rooms. Most of the newer decor looks to be from the 1990's.

      I don't think it was abandoned for very long before my visit, maybe just a couple of months. There were vandals inside before me which is why the upholstery was coming off and it also explains the other vandalism. Thanks for the comment!!

    The architectural details in this home are gorgeous! I love the French doors between the rooms, the pocket doors, the built in cabinets, all of it! It's heartbreaking that it's going to be torn down. I hope that someone familiar with those wall coverings will post something here. It looks like that fabric was plastered to those walls when they were plastered. It seems like something they might have done in the 1800's rather than the 1900's - but it doesn't look like it's very old at all. I guess it was just set up for separate living spaces on each floor and I guess the back stairs provided a separate entrance for the tenants on the upper floors? Anyway, thanks for sharing this beautiful old home with us!

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it was a definitely a cool place. There is more information but the upholstery covered walls in the description. One of the previous owners commented on another explorers video and they had owned an upholstery business that operated on the property. Thanks for the comment!!

    It’s not so unusual to put fabric on the walls using liquid starch. This house is beautiful and seems to be in really nice shape. It does appear some squatters have made themselves at home and left behind their mess. Makes you wonder why a family would abandon such a nice place!

    Wow 😳🤔
    This house was quite a mixture of chaos and insanity 😆 . What in the world happen here? 🤪
    I like real wood in homes so it had that going for it but unfortunately very bad decisions being made on all levels of what to construct inside the house with rooms/ different living sections. Really bizarre in my opinion.😬
    I did enjoy the video it was interesting and I was left thinking where have these insane people gone to destroy a good house again 😂.
    Maybe the person who was coming up with what to construct and how as well as saying yeah this would look amazing together and very pleasant to the eye 👀 didn't finish thier degree on construction and design and appeal.
    Let's just throw everything together and call it a house with apartments 🥺🤔👎
    Sad because I bet at one time it was a beautiful farm house ❤.

    Very interesting
