    I was privileged to be able to attend your outing due to my two daughters and my wife making it my Father’s Day gift. Thanks so much for sharing you’re property and knowledge for such a great charitable cause…Camp Kicking Bear. Chris Bee’s presentation on archery (especially as a Camp Kicking Bear Alumni) was excellent and Roy Howell’s discussion of his life story and creation of Camp Kicking Bear should be made into a movie. I couldn’t help but feeling inspired driving home. Thanks for a very special day.

    I was just at Bass pro in Springfield Mo. And took the tour of the Wonders of wildlife museum and I doubt any of those deer were shot over food plots. Most were killed before the food plot craze any thoughts on that?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So many giant bucks are killed in the fantasy land states on plots every year...and many times MORE are spared due to the overhunting of food plots.
      The risk is just as high as the potential level of reward. Very few manage their food plots correctly and they do more than harm good relative to the landowner being able to create a quality herd and hunt

    Hello long time watcher... I have a question about switch
    I sprayed heavy to eliminate competition, two times so far. Spring and two weeks ago, and will spray again a third time later this month when planting seed. Is it ok to plant (pure live seed) this fall/ late July to get the stand started this fall rather than wait for spring. I plan on following the recommended amount of simazine in the spring, and still practice what you preach. mowing as you recommend and so on.
    I did change my plots last year to buckwheat then brassicas last year, worked great.

    I have a question. I need some guidance on what to spray this spring on the spot I opened up in a wood thicket this fall. It's not all that big under a 1/4 acre. It's my new honey hole. New to this whole no till food plots thing. You got my attention and I'm willing to put in the work just need some guidance, please help. Jason in Ohio.

    Thanks for the videos Jeff. Do you have to mow or burn off the previous year's switchgrass every year or just until it is fully established the second year?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Doug!! You don't have to worry about last year's growth in any way. I mow for weeds and wouldn't necessarily recommend burnish as mowing is so easy to do when needed.
      Mowing in May when old switchgrass is 10-12" high is great! Or in July for new switch...

    Thanks for all the great content! Could you sow your new fall plot blends into standing rye left from the previous fall or sown this past spring? If plots are fairly weed free and there is a good stand of rye, could it be used instead of the buckwheat to sow fall blends into? Then roll it and kill it like u would the buckwheat?

    • @douglasroseveare7295
      @douglasroseveare7295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only thing with the rye is that it might not cover as well as the buckwheat because it is a grass but I can't see why it wouldn't work as long as it was thick enough. Try mowing it maybe and then seeding then pack. You would probably need it pretty thick though and then you can't use some of the lighter broadleaf sprays to kill it so your limited as far as herbicide group selection. Glyphosate is over used in my opinion and the weeds are getting resistant.
      Maybe even try one spot mowed and one spot just rolled. I am interested in this also. Was thinking about clover chicory and winter rye. My soil is really sandy so dry years won't be great however this stuff is exciting.

    • @smallfishbigpond5047
      @smallfishbigpond5047 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@douglasroseveare7295 Thanks DR. Agree on the resistance and overuse. Just looking for a way to maybe get close to the same results and spend less time, money, and use less chemical. Rye is a natural weed suppressor and if i have a good stand of it going into mid to late summer why not just use that as the cover for the fall plots rather than creating a buckwheat stand? That's my thinking anyway.

    • @douglasroseveare7295
      @douglasroseveare7295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smallfishbigpond5047 For sure. Like he mentioned in this video you can stack rye also which is interesting to think about. Sprinkle a bit with clover or something early so they don't over graze and maintain their main feeding area then a bit later seed a bit more rye and then the final seeding heavy. Deer seem to like rye and all the cereal grains really so I can't see why your idea wont work and even if it doesn't work perfectly who cares at least then you know and you can change it up a bit.

    • @douglasroseveare7295
      @douglasroseveare7295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smallfishbigpond5047 And don't get me wrong. There is no problem with using glyphosate it is just good to rotate herbicides and not always use the same thing.

      Unfortunately no other way...is way too hard NOT to name them. The big 10, wide 10, heavy 10, etc got way to confusing for several people that watch and hunt these bucks with me...sometimes for several years at a time. Even just Dylan and I watching them for years and having to refer to them each for years at a time for 1 buck is impossible.
      I also can't stand the overused names like Goliath, King Kong, Megatron, etc...

    Thanks Jeff I have been excited for videos from this day!!
    I have a question about atvs on land.
    I have permission to hunt a 180 acre cattle/horse/hay farm in Kentucky (they’re like my second parents). The farmer regularly uses trucks/tractors/side by side on his land, but not in the woods (where I hunt) unless it’s after dark and I killed a deer.
    Do the deer get used to that much or that type of arc activity or do you think they still shy away from hat land due to the vehicle use?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning John! I think they get used to them to some extent, but the mature bucks definitely shy away from areas of consistent ATV use. The amount of separation between the woods where you hunt and the fields may be just right!
