- The last Madden NFL game that could be considered a great game would be the Playstation 2, original Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube versions of Madden NFL 08 with Vince Young on the cover. This video is NOT about the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions of the game, which were very different. The franchise mode, superstar mode, and more were incredibly deep and detailed. Easily my favorite Madden. Problem is the PC version has issues running on modern windows. It's hard to find without pirating it, and the graphics don't go above 1080p. Emulating the gamecube version has nicer graphics and a crisper resolution. Only thing I like more about the PC version are the mods
@@SOFTDRINKTVWhile there ate problems on windows 10 you can find it easily on Amazon for 10 bucks without pirating it and there are mods to fix the w10 problems, and with a game as old as madden 08 is there really a difference between 1080 and 4k? Idk personally I feel like the mods make up for the differences between them but if the next windows OS is even worse with madden 08 then it's going to be bad
After I won a superbowl I definitely built a new stadium, made it 80,000 seats and made everything expensive as hell. 7$ hotdogs out here

ma'd Johnson same I imported my running back from ncaa and got drafted to the eagles we won I built a glass roof stadium and got rid of Mcnabb because we drafted this rookie QB who was an 80 overall and was fast.

There's nothing like playing 4 years of Heisman mode then importing into superstar mode to have your created player go from highschool to the HOF.

I'm just starting through now on Gamecube and honestly, I don't notice much difference yet? Maybe it has more features as I move through the season? I don't really make us of create a player, team, superstar mode or training camp or anything.
Especially with " flex scheduling" having a extra game on MNF at 9:00 PM due to playoff implications. It started in Madden 2004 with Vick on the cover

If you get a PC you can play Madden 2008 on the PC, it's solid... Or get an original Xbox, it's worth it to play the old Maddens...

I know this is an old video. But you described exactly why Madden isn't like this anymore. "I'm still playing it after all these years." How are they going to get you to keep buying, if they create a solid game where all it would take is roster updates to keep the game up to date? They literally can't create a game like this anymore, or they lose money because people won't be clamoring every year for when they "finally fix it". It's truly sad, and I really can't wait till another company can license the NFL for simulation football.
No one talks about this but the fan base reaction to the vision cone was the downfall of madden QB play. It was an amazing idea, allowed the best QBs to stand out more by their vision, gave more head movement, forced players to not just run around backwards and throw passes, and it actually made QB awareness matter in madden
It also could be turned off, when this was taken out, QBs got gimicy again and is why nothing matters when it comes to QB play
The stupid fanbase protested it and madden got rid of it due to that, and now the only stats that matter are accuracy to an extent
Wouldve been great to expand on vision cone where some QBs vision could grow a bit when on the run, someone like Brady couldve had his vision cone decreased when on the run while someone like Allen or Hurts could increase when running but every QBs would decrease when running backwards
Punters would have a very very limited to non existent QB vision cone, QBs like Willis would be very small to force a one read type of playing style, Rodgers would have a half the field sized vision cone
This couldve also been incorporated into every faze of madden. RBs couldve had one where they wouldnt be able to cut to the side as well based on their vision, it would massively slow down or something, WRs who were average couldve had issues tracking the ball, OL would miss blitzing defenders based on their vision while great OL would pick up on this, safeties would lose some of the field when playing zone, CBs wouldnt track the ball or break on the ball based on their vision cone (someone not that good would only focus on the receiver while good dbs would see the whole field and break on some passes)
For instance, say you throw a pass to a receiver who has a big vision cone, they would be able to track the ball anywhere and be able to catch overthrown passes, sideline passes, get feet in bounds. While a lower vision cone receiver would let the ball sail over their head, let the ball hit their feet, look over the wrong shoulder on deep balls
This wouldnt have to be something that would be seen, but incorporated in the actual player's ability. It could be invisible, it doesnt have to be visual, maybe pre snap it would be cool. Itd allow you to know what direction of passes to use for certain receivers. If you know their vision cone is limited, you would be less inclined to throw directional passes, when it was big, you had free game. Running backs you knew you had to run strait behind the blockers in the hole with a limited cone while someone like Saquan would be able to see the whole field without any lag to his running
This was something that could've altered maddens future, yet was removed. If expanded, this wouldve been a great feature for all positions
Great idea vision definitely need as its a big part of football ability, all wrs rbs and oline all have different vision
I still play this to this day I remember when my dad got a hummer h2 when it came out and came with a ps2 under the back seat and I was able to play this in the car

A+ this was the last video game I really played. I remember taking down 30 bombs with my homie Jeremy and playing it all night getting smashed.
I;ve never played Madden, before, mostly NFL Blitz on Dreamcast and Gamecube.
Madden 08 is like NFL Street and NCAA Football 06. They both have great physics and satisfying hits, also lots of madden youtubers say that madden 08 is better than the new Madden 21. And they are right, because in the newer madden it feels stiff and the graphics aren't "amazing" compared to the smooth, awesome graphics that Madden 08 has. If you have a xbox 360, PS3, or if you have an old PS2, I'd recommend you buy Madden 08 and try out the Superstar Mode. it is way better than the others maddens 13-present

Another thing that was possible was when a famous player retired he might show up in the off-season as an available coordinator for you to hire, this always happened to me with Terrell Owens for some reason.
It's unbelievable to look back and realize that EA cared about their product instead of releasing the same game every year with updated rosters and gamble mechanics (MUT).
The last Madden I brought was 15 and for some reason when I played the training mode I was expecting the players to come out with the training uniform but that was nothing but a distant memory when NFL football games were good. Thanks for the vid, it sure made me look way back to better times.
Hell, even FIFA got that treatment until the last few years when they started abusing the MUT in that game too. FIFA 15 let you play as a player, retire, and then coach and maybe OWN a team later on down the line.
I WISH there was HALF the passion and creativity in those games nowadays, compared to their older versions. Makes me so sad.
Yes! I ended up hiring Jerry Rice as my Offensive Coordinator for the Niners, and a couple seasons later promoted him to Head Coach. Right now, I'm playing Madden 08 with last year's mod, and I have Aaron Rodgers as my OC and Frank Gore as my Special Teams Coordinator.

Because for over a decade now, they've stripped features from the game and bled customers dry with Ultimate Team, receiving very little backlash. Yea, there were a few vocal people complaining every year, but the vast majority kept shelling out for the "new" game and x amount of money on the Ultimate Team. The review outlets kept giving the game 8.whatever scores. The sheep finally woke up from their zombified state and spoke up this year. Next year's game will be better, guaranteed. Thing is, it'll only be marginally better. EA will do the bare minimum to get back to those 8.whatever review scores and have the sheep back in their zombified state. Make no mistake, it'll only take the bare minimum to do that.
Sadly until people stop buying the game, EA has no reason to change. So disappointing

The crazy thing is people will argue with me about why I’m requesting certain features in Franchise mode. I have even heard the phrase, “You’re asking for too much”. Crazy how soon people forget what EA once created themselves. Great video man!

The problem is the people who play Madden religiously and give it a pass every year and the ones who say your asking for too much, probably didn't get the experience the maddens and the NFL2k in the 2000s. They probably was little babies. So they probably only grew up on games like Madden 13 to Madden 20.

I STILL play Madden 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, and Arena Football: Road To Glory regularly on my PS2. My 10 year old son is always amazed at how much better these old football games are compared to today's Madden games lol.

Abilities are also a great addition as well. I never besides the glory days of madden, felt like I had to game plan around elite players I played the beta and the game felt amazing!
The lighting, the player movement, the throwing trajectory, the animations, almost everything felt incredible!. And I really hope the don’t fuck it up🤞🏾I’m telling you when you play this years version you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.

Looking at the pictures of 19 vs 08 definitely favors the 19 graphics, but in gameplay 19 looks really cheap and flimsy to me, 08 looks solid and full of weight in my opinion. (Btw I mean the overhead cam during playing, not cutscenes and replays.)

Booker The Wolf a bit of both I think. I think part of the effect is the better graphics look better up close but in long shots sometimes its too crisp. Similar to how you can take a blurry photo and try to sharpen it. Perhaps the graphics are better than my eyes? I think youre right ftmp but there was something that made me dizzy about the 19 look overall.
My all time favorite small detail that has been missing in the new maddens for YEARS was in the older maddens in franchise mode..... the raiders had the baseball dirt on their field for the first few weeks of the regular season

I don’t even play Madden games, and I’m shocked by how in-depth ‘08 seems from your description. The idea that all of that functionality could be crammed into the PS2 and Gamecube but now it overwhelms the PS4 seems absurd.

When madden 18 came out they updated player likeness and added OBJ's tattoos, Derrick Carr's tattoo and That Bryant guy who played WR for the Steelers amd raiders they added his tattoos and Collin Kaepernick's tattoos. I think Collin was the only who had tattoos on 16 but once 18 came out I would change OBJ"s name to my name cause I wanted tattoos for my player.

Agreed, but I still really love 03. It was that kinda awkward transition from the clunky slower Maddens before, to the smoother quicker Maddens after. It introduced sooo much and help be a great base for a bunch of the next Maddens after it
@@KaiVellichor 09 madden the best. They added the sideline catch for receivers. Plus you can turn qb vision off on all madden unlike the previous versions. Plus it's john maddens last game he commentated on for the ps2.
@@realone3602I actually didn't like 09 as much. I mean it's a great madden, but it feels like dlc for Madden 08. Plus if i remember correctly, 09 had some really wonky CB issues, where they would really struggle to pick off anything, even if it was thrown at them. But it has been forever since I last played it so I could be mistaken

You’re spot on about franchise mode, I had my Baltimore Ravens 25 years into the future. The draft was my favorite feature. Sometimes I would simulate the entire season just to go through the offseason.

I think that was more of an NFL call. Certain things they dont want in the game, like hits that knock the helmet off and fights. Looking out for their image

For example, l made Jalen Hurts & put him as the Eagles starting QB and played them against the 1992 Dallas Cowboys I made. It was a shootout Hurts vs Aikman. But Dallas edged the Eagles 33 to 31. Charles Haley managed to get a huge sack in the last minute that iced it for Dallas. I give all the players real stats, and most teams are comprised of their best players from the past, or present so all the games stay competitive.

@@thegoat6325 I just started doing this on Madden 08 a few months ago, so I have not gone in too much depth with the draft stuff yet, but I will let you know if you can when l get there. So far l have mainly messed with the rosters and play testing them. Whose SPD AGL and ACC ratings are you asking for Hurts' or Haleys? I go back n forth between madden 08 and 05 all the time lol. I can go back and dig up every Sean Taylor ratings if you need them. I have ratings going back to Madden 98.
@@breal1183 im use to playing Madden on madden 12 but recently got a ps2 and madden 2005, on the drafts in madden 05 the prosoects ratings are all, mosty due to speed, all of their speed is low at every position for some odd reason, is the other maddens on ps2 the same as far as drafts concerned? Example: madden 2005 the first pick in the draft was a 67 overal running back who didn't have not one 90 at any of the speed levels, all of them draft prospects speed low, one lineman had a 33 in speed. Is the other madden drafts on ps2 like this? Or are draft picks atleast respectable on other maddens? Like top first round picks should atleast be 80 overall and up

I've purchased Madden every year since Eddie George was on the cover in Madden 2001. Every year it seemed to get better and better until they started to remove features around Madden 10 and then would attempt to add them back in years later as "new". As the video mentions the Pro-Bowl, Super Star Mode (aka Face of the Franchise). What happened to team creation, uniform creation, offensive/defensive coordinators, retired players becoming coaches, training camps, etc. The list goes on and on. MUT is trash and microtransactions in a game like Madden is ridiculous. What also blows my mind is how gaming review sites such as IGN continue to give the games 8.0 or higher rankings each year. How??? EA is trash. I feel sorry for the new generation of gamers who don't remember what the games used to be....and could be. #boycottmadden

If anybody ever tries this themselves, the first few draft classes are EPIC. You will find 90+ overall players in every round. The game "rebuilds" the quality of the league. I always turn off trading in franchise, so draft picks are more important. Rebuilding teams in this mode was the most fun I ever had. Every team had insane cap space so there was never any free agents. Those 7 draft picks became literal gold. It would take years to make a winning roster, and when you did, you remember where every player on your team came from.
Highly recommend any madden franchise players to go back and create thier own league just as a nice change.

I recently re-acquired a PS2 and immediately hunted down a copy on Mercari. Even with the lack of presentation of the newer maddens, I'm having so much more fun in 08 than I've had in YEARS. Yeah you're not kidding. I wish I could play sports games still today but sadly the desire isnt there anymore. I remember putting so much time into ESPN college hoops when I was a kid. That game had so much depth it was unreal, players even practiced in warmups.

Not me, didn't buy it. I got suckered into buying the Madden with Calvin Johnson on the cover & returned it. Madden 08 was the best Madden, Madden 12 (Peyton Hillis cover) was the last acceptable Madden. After that, it was just a cash grab from EA.

Honestly I have so much more fun with this game than any other Madden. Create a team with random generated players and build them up. You become attached to this players and give them backstories since they don't exist in real life. I really tried to have fun with Madden 19 and I just couldn't. 20 is nearly identical in terms of franchise mode from playing the beta, so there is no real reason to buy it in my opinion

@@STANPEDETV I got it and have been playing it for a week.I think the shows with Chris berman are way ahead of it's time.Gameplay is amazing, I just have a problem running the ball (maybe its because I suck).The ball deflections are so good.Its very satisfying when my DB tips it up and then catches it.I enjoyed the weekly training but I wish it wasn't as hard as it was,literally every week almost every position would go down in overall. Franchise is pretty deep,the only thing I dont like is scouting and drafting. Overall its great, I cannot believe how amazing the gameplay is.

The Chris Berman was amazing, he definitely made me a fan just from his presentations. The game was definitely before it’s time. The game is very realistic. I don’t remember running the ball like that but I do remember tapping the A button to run faster and holding it down to power up for a Juke or a Spin even a Stiff arm. I definitely do miss that game. I believe you can change the difficulty of the game. I think I was in 4th grade when it came out I couldn’t been that good at the game I remember having 200 yard rushing games and getting trophies in my crib for them.. breaking the TDs records etc. Damn I miss that game. Again I’m just happy you enjoyed playing the game and experiencing what I did and whoever else after playing.

This video makes my late teenhood feel so validated. I have so many memories playing this into AM hours in my room on a 20" tv. I spent 10+ years in franchise mode across multiple teams, documented great games I had and season summaries (I still have the notebook!), took notes for drafts... This was always, and probably still is, in my PS2. Such a great game

The player movement, animations and fluid changes from running and catching, changing directions, game-play etc. is so much better in 08 than it is in 20. It also had a true coach mode in franchise, the fact that you can't even have a true coach mode in online franchises in 2020 without the potential of your opponent taking control of a player without you knowing is pathetic and you have to kick FG's/punts manually.
Popular Opinion: Madden 2004 - 2008 was just more fun. About a dozen of us still play online with updated rosters. Its PC but you can even get the PS2 reciever icons. Lmk if interested 🏈🎮

PC version is WAYYY better than the PS2 version, ESPECIALLY now, considering all the mods that exist for it. I play Madden 08 on my PC myself and it looks about 10x better (graphics-wise) than any PS2 Madden ever did, and that's without any mods (running an older nVidia Geforce GT 640).
