This guy is why they removed the game corner in future versions lol
From what I'm aware, before you even start doing anything, the game first determines if you're even allowed to win anything on the current spin at all. So even if you line up the first two 7s correctly, the last one sometimes will never line up no matter how perfectly you time it because the game has decided that this round will not pay out.
You can see this for yourself if you start up a spin and then save state before stopping any columns. Sometimes you'll find that no matter how many times you reload the state, the current spin is impossible to win.
I know this is true for GEN four but I don’t know about GEN three
@@EpicFail7777777 This is true for FRLG. I have seen it for myself when I've tried grinding coins in those games on emulator.
@@EpicFail7777777It is.
I use speed run Leaf Green's Casino for fun when I was a kid.
Even when I was younger I pretty quickly realized that you can learn the muscle memory to get triple sevens pretty often, since the column patterns are always the same.
I never knew how precise the timing needed to be, but it felt pretty precise.
Glad to see something that I wasted time doing as a kid become an actual competitive speed run!
Looks like there's a lot more RNG to this game than I thought as a kid!
CELADON GAME CORNER GET WHAT I'M OWED
After some brief research into the game's code:
There's actual 6 different "bias" sets in the games code.
It's completely random and doesn't depend on which slot machine you use as it's re-generated when you play any given slot machine.
Based on RNG, these biases affect what icons the reel will want to stop at.
Here's the spread:
Bias 0: 50%
Bias 1: 9.1%
Bias 2: 13.63%
Bias 3: 13.63%
Bias 4: 9.1%
Bias 5: 4.54%
Bias 5 has a significantly enhanced bias for 7's:
Bias 0 7's Bias = 73
Bias 1 7's Bias = 73
Bias 2 7's Bias = 73
Bias 3 7's Bias = 80
Bias 4 7's Bias = 80
Bias 5 7's Bias = 115
If there was a way to ensure you always got the best bias set, I'm sure the record could be lowered much further.
Looking at the RAM value at position 0x800D shows what bias set was selected.
Theoretically someone could use that to get a feel for when they have the perfect bias, then grid attempts until they get something that feels like the best bias set.
If you want a better idea than just my poor explanation, anyone more skilled or just better at understanding C code can find the decompiled code for the slot machine here:
github.com/pret/pokefirered/blob/master/src/slot_machine.c
What the HECK.
this is awesome stuff! yeah i read a bit afterwards in the decomp about how this bias is coded, just have yet to find a way to identify optimal biases and get the best ones. might have to go back to the lab for this one…
@ackoladeTV I can't remember how painful rng manips are in gen III, is that a viable route?
EDIT: Tragically, at a glance it looks like machine bias is reset when you get a payout (line 1042). Could be wrong tho
ending gave me such a loud schadenfreude laugh. great video.
See you in the Yahtzee speedrun
Not a fan of how he tried to consistently psych you out. Not very good sportsmanship.
It's not what I would have done if someone was trying to steal my record. But on the other hand, it also feels superficial when a WR holder is overly nice and chill about their WR getting taken. Speedrunning is a brutal competition, so overly nice attitudes don't always feel genuine. So I get both sides of these types of issues.
It seemed playful, and this is a meme category anyways. I think if it was a category that was far more refined and much more popularized/taken seriously, then yeah, but it seemed moreso of having fun. As much as he did, he also gave him advice in DMs, and he gave him viewership. If he had malice he wouldn't have offered advice.
as a counterpoint: it is very funny
yeahh like other people have said, it's not that serious and at the end of the day, served as a motivator to get WR haha
Just some friendly competition
Thank goodness for Voltorb flip also there are some ways to get all 2s and 3s. But if you’re starting out, I’d say flip over the cards that have 0 Voltorb in them, then if the numbers add up to 5 on both the numbers and Voltorb, you mark them all with Voltorb. I’ve done this before and it helped me get through the first level, although the numbers are always at random spots so it might not be the same as mine. 😅
Um, why are you waiting for the coins to pay out. If you press the start button it skips the coin count down (there is a small delay before it works tho)
I kid you not I made 1600 on one machine , left and misclicked on the wrong item now I can’t win at all
I tend to lurk in a lot of these videos, and I've never attempted speedrunning personally, but I do find it really intriguing that with how dissected these codes are nowadays, and how optimized these things are, that things are still being discovered.
In a way, it kinda reminds me of Goppier's videos. While he used the game's code to figure out how to trade a Pokemon from Gen 2 to Gen 3 and make an actual IRL physical device/cable to do so, this is looking into uncharted territory in the code to find new ways to play the old game.
All in all, really amusing, and I'd be curious how much more there might be to find in this. Also I saw your comment about RSE and I'd be really curious to see just how far that rabbit hole goes, as someone who's coding knowledge is at a very basic/script kiddy level.
yo appreciate it! been thinking about digging into RSE’s game corner - if nothing else, could make for an interesting video haha
Once I learned the infinite nugget glitch to get infinite money
I did that to just buy all the coins lol
Now I learned the RNG Manipulation calibration to then rng manipulate the game to get me a shiny charmander in a new file once I have that
I can trade to emerald and clone it
The only think I can't seam to find info on is rng manipulating for a shiny eevee!
Does anyone know if you can rig the odds of the RSE casino games?
ive done some real brief testing but RSE casinos are wayyy more complicated, as of writing this nobody’s ever completed a speedrun of it
So I notice none of these make use of the start button paying out remaining coins without having to wait, is there a rule against it?
I think this will get you addicted to slots IRL XD
Fantastic
99.999% of gamblers quit before making it big ;(
Bruh that ending lol
Is this the beginning of a rivalry arc?
Another banger
OMG I LOVE GAME CORNER I SPENT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF HOURS PLAYING THE SLOT MACHINES EVERYTIME I GOT A ROW OF 7S MY DOPAMINE LEVELS ROSE UP TO ASTRONOMICAL HEIGHTS. BY FAR THE BEST FEATURE IN ANY POKEMON GAME BY FAR
Do this work in Emerald? I can probably just buy the coins with money but I wanna beat casino at least once.
Súper underrated
If it's actually true that the difficulty of the slots is somehow different every time you play, then that's just cruel to the kids who spent tons of time trying to get good at them LOL.
I saw your video from your short, really liked the idea! Your humor was spot on and I definitely laughed while watching your video. Interested to see where you're going to go from here!
My lucky machine is bottom right above the gentleman
sooo.. work harder not smarter then?
I love u, asian minecraft steve
I have 2000 coins I got in ten minutes
