    I have been using an R9 on my desk for the last 6 months. I typically have it at 70% (6.3Nm), because I don't really see the benefit in having to work much harder. It's pretty hard work at times, even at that level (and I'm relatively fit, I climb and cycle etc). So I totally agree that 5.5Nm is probably enough for an awful lot of players.

    • @chepilevski
      @chepilevski  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I know exactly what you mean buddy! Driving the R9 the last 7 weeks and coming from Simucube Pro which I use for years I still get fatigue after long sessions 😁
      The R5 will be probably very powerful for those coming from Logitech and other les powerful wheels 😁

    • @Sithhy
      @Sithhy ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree with you. I have a Thrustmaster T300 which outputs "just" 4Nm at peak, yet in a game like Assetto Corsa I usually run the FFB strength at 60-70% because otherwise on higher values it feels unrealistic to fight with your steering wheel. I do also agree that higher FFB gives you more details, but you can only go so much higher before you just will make the steering wheel heavier for no reason without any additional feedback to be felt & for me, that value is right around 5Nm

      I have the same worry, but mostly because, for the money, I would get equipment, which is highly specialized, so it cannot be used for other stuff (Unlike PC, monitor, gamepad, or VR headset)
      In my case, for now, I solved it with gamepad with gyro/motion control (basically PS5 Dualsense controller, although there are some alternatives). Thanks to it, I have retained the versatility and I got the precision that steering wheel offers over the standard thumbstick steering.
      Sure, no force feedback except for rumble, but the improvement is still quite significant.

    When Fanatec announced DD 0.5 everyone started calling it "entry level DD". I always thought this was a misnomer, because it is not "entry level". When you add boost kit and wheel (+QR), you're at ~900-1000 EUR. And you still need pedals. Moza R5 is the closest in my mind when talking about "entry level DD". I hope they add console support because at that price, it would be the perfect combination. PS5 + R5 + GT7.

    • @chepilevski
      @chepilevski  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Totally agree with you !
      Bay the way I heard they work to make there wheels compatible with the consoles but not sure wen will that be ready!

    • @gavancorrigan8813
      @gavancorrigan8813 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The licensing for PS must be crippling because it seems so prohibitive. I’m hoping to be on PC in Q1 of the new year so I can get away from PS ecosystem. GT7 was a letdown for me and PC is just so attractive (apart from the price).

    • @alpha007org
      @alpha007org ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gavancorrigan8813 I partially agree with you. But we, PC players, often forget that 99% of the games are made for console first. Sims are probably the rare exception (racing sims, flight sims,...).

      @@gavancorrigan8813 Yeah, I know. I was a competitive Unreal Tournament OG (1999) player. And I played mostly FPS games until 2012-2013 when I lost interest and stopped playing altogether. Then in 2018 I got G29 and the rest is history. My next purchase was the rig, then pedals, dedicated PC and ultrawide monitor (I wish I would go for triples), and lastly DD. I consider simracing a hobby and as with every hobby, it's expensive.
      Consoles on the other hand are relatively cheap, and a cheap bundle from Moza would be an entryway to simracing. Now, simracing is 99% on the PC. While most gamers are on consoles. If we (simracers) could tap into that large playerbase, AMS2 wouldn't have 500 concurrent players but maybe 5000. Because F1 games are pretty popular on both Xbox and PS.

  • @ab8jeh
    @ab8jeh ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just got mine and it's incredible for the price. I actually sold my CSL DD in order to get this (for space reasons), but the FF for the Moza is much smoother and feels honestly better. The quick release also feels amazing, and the desk clamp (if you don't have a rig) is stable unlike the clumsy fanatec one. Making sure to also get the brake mod, it's a complete bargain.

    I've had my Moza R9 for almost 2 weeks. I upgraded from a Clubsport V2.5, that has served me well about five years. It had one issue with a broken pin on my Formula V2 rim that was caused by an incompatibility issue with my base and the wiring harness used in the early production Formula V2. I'm really loving my R9 and GS wheel. The R9 is the first direct drive base I've ever used. Although the R9 is a pretty big leap in feeling and wheel speed, I can agree with Fanatec when they advertised the V2.5 as being the closest thing to direct dirive. I'm still a little worried about quality, because Moza is new to sim racing. I know that they are an established company that sells camera and photography mounting equipment. Hopefully, since they are a company with a decent history, they will continue to deliver great products. Only time will tell as far as quality goes. I will be happy if I get at least five or six years problem-free use with this base and wheel, until I can move up to a more powerful base.

    I have the SRP pedals. The brake pedal, although good, has so much travel that it feels like a road car that needs its brakes bleeding! Moza do the Moza SR-P Accessory Kit that has two springs and a damper. The trouble is, I can't find any information that might suggest that the damper is longer perhaps and would cut travel. Do you have any info or knowledge on this? Bit of a long shot but any help would be great!

Is the difference big enough to make a difference? Shippement fees are also a thing (The TS-PC is avaible localy while the Moza R5 is not as far as I know). It will be very interesting to see if/when Logitech and Thrustmaster enter near this price point with direct drive. It’s a shame Fanatec has been sold out on 5NM bases for so long! Clearly there is a strong market for high end/ higher priced items - but as you say - not everyone can make those financial leaps and the beauty of direct drive can still be felt at levels such as the R5. Glad to see that you made some headway on the R5 pedal set too.

    I've been considering purchasing a dd setup for some time now. A few years back I was lent an old Logitech belt driven setup by a friend and I fell in love with it and ever since I've dreamt of a nice racing setup. Reading about the customer service of moza and the great reviews I've seen I'm leaning towards them but can't make my mind up about which to go for. Obviously the r9 is a better base but is it that much better than the r5 as it is in the bundle ? I've always bought things that would serve me long term and reading on Reddit and other places most people say that the r9 with the srp pedals is a great setup that really does not need an upgrade in the long term. I just don't know how justified the price is considering the r5 bundle where I am is 620 euro and the r9 with the same wheel and srp pedals is around 870 euro. Also am I detecting a Bulgarian voice or am I mistaken 😄

If the bases are even stronger it is just impossible ro drive it on even a half of full power, and they can actually brake your fingers, if the car spins.
      So if I put on MAX feedback level the R5 won't it be feeling almost the same as R9??

      Ah Dane , that kit is from Imsim for the talento pedals in cost like 200€ as it have lots of elastomers and some pedal guards and is not worth to upgrade those pedals with such a kit but I have to check ware we can find elastomers on the market for good prices !
      I talked with the Moza manager and explained the problem and he said he will provide all the details to the engineers and they will probably come with elastomers set soon !

      First off, amazing videos you’re making!!The Imsim performance kit in fact looks like an overkill for the srp lite pedals.
      I’m currently looking to find cheap elastomers, but am a bit overwhelmed with the many different “spring rates” available.
      I was wondering if you could maybe provide some more details on the particular elastomers you preferred (e.g. inner/outer diameter, length and spring rate)?
      I would try to find cheap matching alternatives as a budget friendly alternative for beginners:))

      However, I received the performance kit for the SRP lite pedals (this one was apparently available) and am considering keeping it for a DIY handbrake. I can send you the dimensions of the elastomer/spring as a starting point for your search, if that helps?

The CS is of better quality but is a lot heavier. Do you think the R5 base will be too weak or overheat when paired with the CS? I have the g29 now and don't run that at 100% since i mostly play dirt rally 2 and casual assetto corsa, both with reduced FFB strenght. Sorry, but what you say is completely crazy ... the vast majority of gamers are content with belt bases or "first price" dds ... moreover, the best sim racing players (pro and amateurs), are mostly still on belt bases.
      Personally, I had come a long time ago (after many tries) to the conclusion that a dd of more than 10nm would not necessarily be for me.
      Logically, more than 10 nm would be a good base for a real life pro pilot, who would like to train or the enthusiast who would like to race with the same ffb as a real competition vehicle ... the level of detail is certainly superior, but in an endurance race, the price to pay in terms of fatigue (this to be taken in the broadest possible sense) is also...and that's something to think about
