@durgasaran: My dear chanting is not enough unless and until you also don't contemplate on the essence and meaning inherent within the divine verses. The act of contemplation will be the one to actually bring about the changes in our behaviour in the outer world. In one of the verses it talks about effulgent divinity, in other words, think about how an effulgent divinity ( pure unconditioned consciousness) would behave in the material world. That is literally the brain of a few months old baby, where mind isn't conditioned to think right and wrong, where a colour of a person doesn't matter, neither their ethnicity, race or nationality. We should behave like a child below 9 yrs old. When we like a young child , we don't like them just for the fact that they are child but rather we like them for their innocence and purity. Unfortunately as we get older that innocence and purity is lost. We learn less to forget and forgive. A young child would easily forget and forgive, if their parents scold them or say something nasty . They forget and easily come and sit in the lap of their mother or father. But an adult is very unlikely to do so. In fact, the relationship might become estranged, if such things happen. The one who is able to preserve that in the adulthood are saints, monks. They maintain their composure despite criticism or insults hurled at them. They pray for the growth and wisdom of the corrupted mind that the person has , and forgive them unconditionally. These verses calls you to reflect on the true essence of your being and understand the reality about this universe. I don't know if mere chanting would bring you to that transformative state wherein you are supposed to see divinity in everything that pervades in this universe. If we truly understand the strotam we wouldn't definitely pollute our sacred rivers or throw garbages on the streets. Only a person who chants these strotam superficially and not understand and reflect the meaning of the verses would do that. (Hari Om tat Sat)
