ADi Shankaracharya lived only 32 years. He criss crossed India on foot to establish the various mutts and studied all the Upanishads, and wrote the Jnanavali which forms the crux of advaita. The very argument of Adi Sankara Bhagavatpad was that the form, nature attributes of Brahman are beyond the grasp of human intellect. Hence, he used negators such as nirguna, nirakar, nishkriya etc. He knew that such a philosophy would be beyond the grasp of most people. Hence he composed numerous hymns to foster bhakti. Although, he considered the latter to be a lesser gnosis, but neverthless an equally potent medium to reach out to the almighty Brahman.
