I watched your video, I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 and after watching, I went and bought the upstream and downstream sensors thinking I am ready to go. Upon returning home I discovered you need 4 on my vehicle, two of each so back to Auto Zone I go. I also ordered the right tools because I am afraid of stripping them out. You might want to indicate to people that they can cut the wires on the old ones which would now allow them to use a socket. Ok, he made it look easy, it's not for me. I sprayed them with blaster, used propane to heat them and can't get any to budge. I did not cut the wires as I bought the correct tools from Amazon.
OMG thank you. I'm gonna do that on Friday to my 03 RAM. I'm sure it needs it. Running very rich. Also getting a tune up. Feels like it wants to die at the light. Should I have a Pro do the tune up?
Well I'm not sure Of your mechanical abilities. Doing the tune up it's not hard at all . It's not hard at all you should be able to do it in a couple of hours. If there's something you're unsure of let me know and I'll make a quick video about it.
Good video. But... It's funny to me, I've never had a O2 sensor come out that easy. In most cases you need heat and lube, as well as a 6 point socket (or 02 socket) using a open ended wrench is usually a big no-no as it will strip the sensor.
Ive never had an issue with them i just replaced 02sensors on a 2007 Ford Expedition they came out just fine one was a little stuck and i always use a open wrench never had an issue. But use what your most comfortable with. Thanks for the comment have aa great day.
I have a 04 ram 1500 5.7 quad cab Do you know if the sensors are the same for both upstream and downstream or do I have to buy two different types of sensors?
They do the same thing the only difference is the length of the wire harness depending on vehicle. This is why when you go to the auto parts store they ask you if it’s a upstream or downstream sensor.
When the computer indicates O2 sensor fail, do you always change both or do you try to determine which one is bad, or perhaps the computer will tell you which one to replace???
You have the upstream which is the center closest to the motor the downstream is the sensor closer to the rear of the truck. I’m not sure which sensor brand new purchase so I’m not sure what size it would be as far as your rent goes. You could use an adjustable wrench if you have one big enough.
@@donaldbell9669 I don’t think it would but I’m not 100% sure ill look into it tomorrow. I think that code is your MAP sensor related or throttle position correlation.
Looks simple but I don't have a jack to life the truck up:-(. I think my truck is high enough that I can get under it

heat the pipe, not the sensor. then tighten a tiny bit to break seal. then will come right out.
Thanks!!! Unclipping the sensor was my thing saved me!
They do make a spark plug/oxygen sensor thread chaser to help the installation of a new sensor.
Great video I was able to change one out on passenger side no issues but on driver's side couldn't get clip pushed in enough to pull old one out :/
According to AllData the Neg cable should be briefly disconnected after replacing sensor(s).
The other side has less room to get to I wish you would have did a video on the Passenger said upstream, O2 sensor.

D. Payne so how did it go did that fix your issue.

D. Payne my 03 is doing the same thing. Idling really low and sometimes dies when coming to a stop
@@darrellw82 how many does a 2003 dodge ram 150p with a 4.7 engine have?
1500
Thanks for the info !
One thing you did not mention was that Bank 1 and Bank 2 (upstream) sensors are different than the downstream banks 3 & 4.
Does rough idling indicate sensor replacement ? Or early morning rough starts....little power on take off ?
That’s what this one was doing rough idling at takeoff and when coming to a stop, it would almost seem like you wanted to shut off.
@@CaptK-pv7ow , appropriate the quick reply. Thank u !

Yes it’s best to change both. Some prefer to change all 4. That up to you I don’t.
Four? Where are the other two? Upstream is one, downstream is the second, what would be the third and fourth O2 sensors???
Passenger side
What code did you get for that specific 02 sensor??????
From what i can remember I believe it was P0420. What code did you get.
The error code is P0141 02 Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2. Which side is this on and before or after cat?? Thank You
after cat
I believe that is the left side after the cat
I have an 04 dodge and a 7/8 wrench is too small for the o2 sensors I got and mine has one before and after the cat converter

Come on man. You know it was a bear coming out . Once it was out u put it back in for the video.
I have the same problem in my 5.7 hemi do i need to replace both or just one?
Both driver side and passenger side.
capt K thank you
This video is miss leading. Ive been trying for days to get mine off. Used PB blaster, heat torch. Still won't come off
If I replace one side should I replace the other side also?
Yes you should I actually replaced all of them.
Would it cause the code p0068 to come up if I didn't do all four?
@@donaldbell9669 I don’t think it would but I’m not 100% sure ill look into it tomorrow. I think that code is your MAP sensor related or throttle position correlation.
Which side is bank 2?
Bank 2 is also known as downstream These are going to be the ones located directly after the catalytic. Or closer to the rear end
Bank 2 is on the passenger side of the truck, Bank 1 is the drivers side... Correct me if I'm mistaken...
@@CaptK-pv7ow I thought bank 1&2 were left and right, and sensor 1&2 were upstream and downstream
How do I clear the code afterwards? Thanks in advance.
Undue the battery and it clears the code
the tool you seek is called a 02 sensor socket...
Thank you
