Great DIY job. But for those looking to imitate I would highly reccomend applying a LOT more liquid at a time then this. You always want a wet edge. The point is to have it soak in. A thin dry application will never soak in properly.

As a professional seal coater, this was painful to watch. Two guys could knock this out in 20 min start to finish with 60" brooms. Those little puddles of sealer made me cringe. It's nothing for us to dump 100 gal at a time, but obviously not on a tiny driveway lol

I’m in the sealcoat business and the homedepot buckets is a big rip off especially only lasting months they don’t have a lot of sand your basically sealing it for the color not getting much protection

Do you have another recommendation for DIY? Or should I add some play sand into HD bucket?

@@davem1212 Yes so i would hire a asphalt contractor that offers maintenance services sealcoating being one of them but be careful! Some asphalt contractors leave overspray and do crappy jobs, so i would recommend you view their website and online reviews so you can know who your working with.
ask them to apply by squeegee NO BRUSH and no SPRAY and no up and down patterns simply side to side asphalt contractors will have the best sealcoat that last long time looks way better and is more durable. Home depot products are the worst sealers i have seen i think the reason you got by is because you sealed your driveway very often.
your prep and cleaning is great i would let the contractor know i will do my own cleaning
just read the reviews on the product your using now there is lot of bad reviews on the home depot app when you view the sealer
home depot sealer washes away fast and is to much money for every 5 gallons

    • @nickjohnsonj9291

@@davem1212 but you did great for DIY just next time side to side patterns only with squeegee and if you do use homedepot product again then add sand and mix

@@davem1212 and you sealing it to often looks like its chipping off when sealcoat is to thick then the sealer itself will chip off that is why its important to hire someone that knows what their doing

tbh you have coated the driveway too many times. asphalt bends and flexes and the pores act as expansion joints for that. wait a while before you seal it again and have a company apply a oil base coating to it. btw im a 3rd generation paver for a company thats been in business since 1955

I understand he sealed it a lot, but with your experience you should know in his case it’s normal. He lives in a area with weather conditions provide snow and ice and probably high winds and rain. In those climates it’s recommended to seal every year and if you experience extreme weather , every 8 months.

Who in the heck recommends sealing a driveway every year??? The sealer salesman?? Depending on the product you choose, the premium sealers have up to a 10-year warranty. You don't see the state or local DOT out sealing highways every year, and they get way more abuse than the typical driveway. I have a neighbor who sealed his driveway too often, and after many coats the sealer itself started to "alligator" and looked awful. Also, he managed to get his driveway surface so shiny that it was slippery as heck to drive on with snow on the ground - his snow blower couldn't get any traction.

This guy has such a dull life he has to reseal his driveway every 30 days to stay entertained.

  • @kevinchampeno962

Your over sealing it. Asphalt needs sealed every 5-6 years max. Oversealing causes asphalt to become smooth and non flexible like glass which causes early cracking in winter.. I'm a 40+ year professional asphalt contractor.

3 apps in a year And a half lmao. Using wrong product as well. Your driveway is cracking like that because of that paint... it's paint. Why are you painting your driveway lol.
