Had the pleasure of seeing them in concert in Santa Monica Friday and hanging out with them a bit after. The most talented and nicest bunch 'o guys I've had the pleasure of meeting in many a year. See them if you can, and get their new album "Antifogmatic."
i dont know why this comment is thumbed down, holy shit is most of times used to express awe. im awestruck by these gentlemen. I've bought their cd and i absolutly LOVE it. and i usually listen to metal or electro or minimal. I said holy shit the first time i heard these fellows. thumbs up.
My sentiments exactly. Though I wouldn't say I listen to metal or electronica exclusively, I definitely never thought I would've ever like anything bluegrass. I went from NoFX to Dream Theater to The Knife, and now Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers. It's incredible listening to the best of each genre, and difficult to find other bands that match your standards after you pick your favorites, haha.
@CooperCarr87 while the best ever is too subjective to really deem anyone, i would definitely say that Chris is a genius... especially in this setting... i mean go see them live... the composition is out of this world and every stop and transition is seamless... i would definitely call them genius... one of the few musicians with that level of technique, vision, lyricism, composition ever
This highly inspirational! I was already planning on starting to play mandolin and now I'm definitely doing so. I would be a nice addition to my guitar. :)
He does have a signed Loar, but he's playing one of his Dudenbostels here...most likely #5. He also has #14 I believe, but played #5 on his Nickel Creek and now Punch Brothers recordings.
Magazine: Classic Rock Edition is: Roll of Honour, as far as I know, and it has got this DVD, with this piece included, just in HQ, and another DVD with music videos from various bands, including Motörhead, Deep Purple, Judas Priest and more.
He didn't own one. He had a few around this time that were loaned to him but he still primarily played his Dudenbostel, which is the one he has in this video. It wasn't until 2012 that he bought his personal Lloar.
Completely off topic here, but I just discovered this band a couple hours ago (score!) and this is the first performance I've seen. They're great and all, but I keep thinking the mandolin player looks like Edward Cullen's awesome cousin from West Virginia.
I like how just cause mainstream is so pop that people regard these guys as genius. Go see a classical performance. Not to say this band is bad. They just are "the best ever" or "genius"
Cooper Carr Um Chris Thile, won the MacArthur genius award so I guess that does make him a genius. And these guys can very easily play your so called precious classical music as they played it during their performances at the "Living room " you can easily find it here on TH-cam.
Damn hell, sorry man, I was all wrong here. I'm gonna do the right one here; Magazine = Guitarist DVD = The DVD Volume IV I'm not sure what else to say, but sorry for typing wrong.
Give it up...it's not bluerass...but bluegrass has never had respect since Ned Betty was rapped in Deliverence. Chris is the virtuosos of are time...set back and enjoy the ride and just see where he takes music. I am thankful for the next link in the chain of musical progress!!!
excuse me... you name is Emotastic.... i believe its you who is the loser. they do a beautiful job at their chosen instruments.if you dont like it, turn it off. you dont have to leave negitive comments,

This is my favorite Punch Song - but all of their songs are great. Can't wait to see them again live!
I just freakin' cry every time I hear these guys. They are everything that has been good in bluegrass for the past 30 odd years.
Just got back from one of their concerts! It was awesome. Talked to the band, and got signatures.
Very Nice! I love Chris Thile. He pretty much introduced me to Bluegrass.
Sometimes I think these guys can't possible exist, like they're too good to be true.
This is one of my favorite songs from the Album... well, that's hard to decide since they're all awesome. But I feel this one
Seeing them tonight in Columbus!
These guys are absolutely amazing.
Thank God for you and your music
This is incredible! Chris Thile is great! First Punch Brothers song I've heard! Love it!!
Absolute geniuses! Love what they do, and I hope to see bands like this replace crappy modern pop someday.
My God, where have they been all my life?

string-tastic! seriously though, incredible instrumentation by some of the most legitimate musicians anywhere.
so good...
sublime, so uplifting :)
my name is james and i always watch chris's right hand because it's godly. my heart skipped a beat at 1:31... coincidence?
my god they are so tight, and the dynamics are perfecto! Best band out there.
Five virtuosos.....Hard to see the end of Nickel Creek but this is awesome.
Feeling the exact same thing here!
So good.
This highly inspirational! I was already planning on starting to play mandolin and now I'm definitely doing so. I would be a nice addition to my guitar. :)
Son Fantásticos.

Beautiful
haha Critter sneaks in that old lick at 4:24 and gets a laugh...i think he's done that on different vids I've seen of them lol
Great stuff

That's incredible, I was going to tag certain times but the whole thing is good. Holy moly
wow
There are two of each note/pitch, and four different pitches, so eight strings total. It gives it a nice ringing tone. I can't really describe it.
Amazing
That's a lotta strings! =)
Loved it:) would be great in a child's animated movie.
WOW.
you guys are prob too young to know windham hill, but this tune really has thier flavor- bravo! much work has paid off-
Yeah. Chris plays a Loar. he talks about it in another video.
Gotta love the exchange between Thile, Critter and Gabe at 4:25.
Outside the box. Good!
oh so THIS is how you make good music
great great

I could be wrong... But to some of the people commenting, I think he actually didn't even have a Loar yet. This video was taken in 2008.
He didn't own one. He had a few around this time that were loaned to him but he still primarily played his Dudenbostel, which is the one he has in this video. It wasn't until 2012 that he bought his personal Lloar.
Someone buy me a banjo/mandolin so i can turn the women in my life into beautiful music like this?!
tight
exactly
Completely off topic here, but I just discovered this band a couple hours ago (score!) and this is the first performance I've seen. They're great and all, but I keep thinking the mandolin player looks like Edward Cullen's awesome cousin from West Virginia.
g run cracks everybody up but the banjo player. That's how they are.
@axsys212 They make me cry too.Just great great musician's.The world need's to hear them not Lady Gaga
@sjporr knickle? hahaaa.
exactly. quite common for mandolins actually.
my guess is a signed lloyd loar... just a guess.
four people were having a terrible day.
I like how just cause mainstream is so pop that people regard these guys as genius. Go see a classical performance. Not to say this band is bad. They just are "the best ever" or "genius"

@EmotasticPrez94
well N'Sync is in your favorites... and you know, that's totally... not gay at all?!?
Damn hell, sorry man, I was all wrong here. I'm gonna do the right one here;
Magazine = Guitarist
DVD = The DVD Volume IV
I'm not sure what else to say, but sorry for typing wrong.
what kind of mandolin is he playing with?!
@rangerdjim115 me too!
Hey I didn't know Chris Thile was in this band!
SOMETIMES I wish I didn't have to hear these guys
oops, I meant the magazine Guitarist!
ok so my name is james and when it said james look here i was zoning out fuckin freaked me out that as awesome
o, Chris Thile, you hipster god of all that is good.
He sold his #14 Dudenbostel...
Hah look 3 people missed the Like button
If you guys knew what your music does to me, you'd wanna take a shower!
i think im in love with the violin guy :/
It is or isn't bluegrass...who cares; it's music and categorization is meaningless. If you enjoy the music, that's all that matters. Great stuff.
the violinist looks like chuck norris lol
@64wing no he doesnt he looks like the rabbi next door..... ;)
Give it up...it's not bluerass...but bluegrass has never had respect since Ned Betty was rapped in Deliverence. Chris is the virtuosos of are time...set back and enjoy the ride and just see where he takes music. I am thankful for the next link in the chain of musical progress!!!
@64wing
good thing its not, cause if you actually looked at the real Chuck Norris you would instantly die.
ah, like a twelve string guitar (I think)
excuse me... you name is Emotastic.... i believe its you who is the loser.

It's "you're" not "your"…way to make a point about intelligence.
Maybe you have conflicting definitions of hipster?
