    Good God, Tucker! You took one or two steps and you were airborne! In all of the years I've been watching your videos, I've never seen you get lift so fast. It was the equivalent of hitting the throttle and going straight up! Just amazing.

    For torque compensation, we are working on aerodynamic fins that can be easily added over the spars. I think this will make flying much more comfortable, especially when goosing the throttle.
    Our goal is to create the most comfortable and user-friendly paramotor. These are aspects I believe we can excel in. Whereas, focusing on really long flight times might be better suited for ICE motors.
    So like you mentioned, noise is another concern. I think this will become increasingly important in the future, less so for the pilot's perceived noise and more so for the surrounding neighbors. I believe that reducing noise would greatly decrease the likelihood of being prohibited from flying in prime locations and would keep the neighbors happy.
    That's why we're currently working with E-Prop to develop quieter propellers. Previously, it didn’t matter much if the propellers were quieter since the engine noise was the loudest part of the system.

      ​@@morkovijaFor efficiency one larger blade is better as flight is currently the biggest con for electric aircraft.
      Also the X4 was a kit so the end user has to build it and most people just want to get it out of the box and fly. So that is why we develop the SP140.
      I think it would be cool to revisit the X4 in the future and do a redesign and update it, but for now we are focusing on making the SP140 the best it can be.

      A couple things: Using a planetary reduction unit to reduce the prop RPM's, use a wider blade and higher pitch prop would really help with noise (Think Turbofan jet engines which use much higher core RPM's). Also, integrating regenerative charging for windmilling/gliding situations; it would be a boon to recoup the potential energy from altitude back in to a regenerative charging. A proper electro-prop brake for L/D extension when you needed no windmilling prop drag.

      Hehe, yea... Prop noise was never a concern with a IC engine on there since it makes so much more noise than the prop. Very cool problem to have and stoked to see EVs taking off in the paramotor hobby/sport.

      While that shot was particularly impressive, I think it is on par or slightly better than the Factory R. But that's only on a full charge, the climb rate is noticeably worse after 50% and you can barely climb when the battery gets down to 20%.

      they have a very long ways to go in battery tech to get to the same performance level of gas. 4rs charge time for less than 60 minutes run time is not very exciting.

      @@FosterFarmsOk Ok boomer. Buy 2 extra batteries and spend 5 minutes swapping it and you got like 2 hours of flying.
      Nobody is flying more than 2 hours a day consistently.

    I dreamed of this when flying nearly 20 years ago. The motors were close but battery tech had to catch up. Nice to see these are real now. They will only get better.

      @@chandolomite smooth and clean power. No crude chugging pistons with all those mechanical moving parts. Battery life is the only penalty.

    Horse & Carriage - Same feeling as when I got my Performance ModelY 4 yrs ago. Going back is 100% antiquated. Range will get better over time. This is the future, and the future is bright. Love it, gon have to grab some more merch to get into this drawing. Can't wait to see some more from this kit. Also, since this one is relatively cheap for an EPM - I'd love to see a more expensive model demo'd. Yes, electrics will be more expensive right now, but over time...they'll drop. Fun stuff, thx for sharing TG! looks like you're diggin PHX. Lots more season, lots more content....so much room for activities :)

      Similar experience trading my 2017 Chevy Volt (150HP) for my 2016 Ludicrous Tesla (~700HP). Even though it was older, it felt like a future-car that could defy physics. It's silent yet brutal acceleration seemed like it shouldn't be possible. 🙂

      Nice cars - our EQC gets all our love over our Tesla MY though. Not as practical, but there’s still a place for luxury and ride quality. Hopefully Tesla will catch up soon!

      Yup! We had the same experience with our Long Range Y, the range anxiety also went away after a year and a few long road trips. Paramotors always make me think of flying cars and now that it is electric... 🤤

      @@paulrybarczyk5013 well, only 1 1/2 times as much, but yes, you need to pay for quality, comfort and luxury.
      I wish Tesla had something that matched the quality, comfort and luxury of the Mercedes; but they’re focussed on producing functional, but somewhat bland machines.
      I do get it, it’s a winning formula for them as most people demand function over form; so they’re happy that the Tesla is by far the most practical EV - they’re just not very special/unique/luxurious. They’re the Model T of the EV world - perfect for families and the younger generation, but when you get to a certain age and want a touch of luxury, there are nicer cars out there.
      As the EV market matures, alongside its customer base, manufacturers will have to up their game to win over the grey pound/dollar. An Apple-IKEA blend of a car isn’t going to cut it….

    Hey Tucker, thanks again for another great video. Im a firefighter out near Monterey CA and watch people fly near the bay every once and awhile and would love to do this! I have a daughter with medical needs and most of my off time goes to her, but watching your videos makes me feel like im there. Keep up the good work and thanks again! Amazing!

      Once you learn how to do it, you can take your daughter with you. You don’t have to just run to get up in the air with the motor. You can have a trike or whatever it’s called. I can’t remember, but you do have options so if you have the means, go ahead and do it and take your daughter with you.

    Electric paramotor is the future, the first time I flew the Sp 140 was the best feeling paramotor flight I had, same reaction like you. Smooth quiet and the instant on and off power brings paramotor flying as close to as free flight feeling as you can get with a paramotor. 3- 5 years it will be all electric paramotors with 2+hr flight times

    This is an awesome demo video of the openPPG. It was the first motor I looked at coming into paramotoring from the drone world. Basically it's just a big-ass drone motor which I know all about. I wound up going with the Iris Infinity because of range and flight time. But I'm ready for electric once the battery efficiency goes up.

    Tucker that thing is awesome. For a first electric paramotor it definitely top notch. And you know what? They are the future and they are just going to get better. Love the fact is you don't have to fill with gas and warm up and I would think a lot more reliable .They will eventually get more power and more run time. Just getting used to. Quieter too.     Can’t wait for solid state batteries. Imagine a quarter the size and weight battery with the same power as this one. 40 something pounds total. Or same battery size with 4 times the power. Wow!

    One I was very anxious to see. Hopefully in the future we'll see some of manufacturers ie, EPP make improvements in the areas you mentioned. Battery technology is also improving all the time and it would be excellent to have a battery with twice the distance and half the weight. I know there are no old, bold pilots, but I hope you are the exception! Carry on.

    two ducted fans might cancel the torque problem and limit propeller tip noise making it quieter and more stable....but...might increase the weight slightly...and with bluetooth head set connectivity and a heads up display might give you some extra information on battery status and navigation..great to see this evolving

    when they finally get battery tech advanced to the point where you can fly for a hour on a tiny battery petrol will only be around with the die hard piston slammers, i couldn't care about environmental impact or what's greener i just love technology

      Yeah no gas fumes it's probably the biggest plus. Great if you live in an apartment or want to travel with your motor in a van.

      @@mgkleym That and it's quiet as well (and will probably get better as better models get developed), which is a big plus for areas where the neighbors can complain about the noise. If EV paramotors were much better in the past, Tucker probably wouldn't have gotten reported to the FAA so much.

      @@allaboutroofing2 I run klotz in my Thor 202 140cm foot launch machine. To my eparamotor friends, your machine is awesome and I hope it continues to improve and become more widespread to lower costs and hive mind develop it better. I'm not in the target audience however; for this emotor cannot yet compete with sustained ~33 hp out of the thor no matter the level of fuel is left in the tank, and at 120kg all up I burn 0.9 gal/hr with a 4 gallon tank, 4/0.9 = 4.44 hrs hypothetical endurance, consider I've done measurements several times, start with a 5 gallon jug, launch fly land, pump out all the fuel back into the jug, and the difference is the burn.
      I'm also a mechanic and engine calibrator, so it runs like a top more than not which is the big difference and why I'm not normal here. The last thing I want is an engine out, as bad as anyone who got an eparamotor. I'm just blessed with the skills to take it the other direction and make the combustion engine above average reliable, not invulnerable it's a 2 stroke, just relatively speaking lolol

    This looks like so much fun, and pretty cool to see an electric one in action. I'm not too big on the whole EV thing at least when it comes to cars, but something like this is really cool, and an electric paramotor might be the way I'd go when or if I'm able to get into it. Still a really cool video, and it'll be interesting to see what kinda flight time that battery can achieve.

    One thing I did with my sp140 is I added a spring to the throttle to add a little bit more resistance, I feel like it's a super touchy throttle.

    As somebody who drives an electric car, I often say that it feels like a much closer approximation of the theoretical "ideal car"; it behaves in smooth, consistent ways, delivers power linearly, is quiet, requires minimal maintenance, doesn't smell, and does not require you to adjust your expectations to accommodate the messy reality of generating variable on-demand power from a combustion cycle.
    Sounds like this paramotor is similar; obviously there are compromises in power density (hydrocarbon fuels are absurdly energy-dense), but if you can make the limitations work for you it's a really interesting option.

      I've been flying this for 3 years now and it has changed everything for me. I had so many engine issues with the 2 stroke and this has given me stress free flying like a bird. I love it.

      @@sandiago7564 I have the first generation so it looks like the frame is improved. I would normally fly 40 min to an hour with my 2 stroke but always flew very cautiously because of broken belts, exhaust issues, engine outs etc. This has been amazing! It's incredibly reliable, I get 40 min to an hour easy. I just flew the other day for 45 min and had 40% left. My favorite thing about it is no idle, as soon as you're off the throttle, it's silence. If you need an escape from the world, there is nothing better than going up 3,000 feet and then gliding in silence with no vibration. You're not gonna be doing cross country with this but if you're just looking to go have fun for an hour, nothing beats it.

      mine burst into flames when I plugged it in. luckily I was on the ground at the time. no way to tell anything was wrong with it. diagnostic ability is about zero.

    I wonder if a small hydraulic prop (like a boot lid strut) could be used to smooth out the throttle? A conventional throttle has the weight of the cable, and blade, then there's the friction too

      also I don't think it'd be too hard to have a wheel that you could rotate to set a power amount. You could also then have it disable with any touching of the throttle etc

    Buzzing and that's not the motor, that's the excitement to see this get tested with expert feedback. Keep sending it, love the response when you goosed the throttle, there's a bit of power there. Hopefully with future developments in the battery industry a better chemistry will make batteries lighter, more energy dense and faster charging.

    Even if its not as good as a 2 stroke overall, its a new segment of paramotor! I really like the instant power and the quietness of it and it will only get better from this with longer flighttime and lighter batterys. I really hope more paramotor companies start selling electric ones also.

    Eventually, the electric paramotor will go from the exception to the standard for fliers. Flight times will get longer as battery and motor technology improve. Even the noise will likely be less in future models. Plus, there are no exotic fuels to mess with and maintenance will be so much simpler.

      The prop noise will still be there, unless they can make toroidal propellers that have similar thrust characteristics. And battery technology has been at a standstill for a decade or more. Lithium polymer and lithium ion is as good as it gets. Hopefully that changes, but I haven’t seen anything new come out. Some sort of super capacitor would be great because they charge up almost instantaneously, but don’t have the power density of LiPo or LiIon, but like I said hopefully someone comes up with something better. And I don’t know if you have seen a lithium battery go up, but the burn quite violently, I’m not sure how much a vent would help, especially when at high altitude, it would definitely burn up your lines at least. But with the quality BMS (battery management system) today there is a lot of safety features programmed in. I’m definitely excited to see what the future holds, but like I said battery development hasn’t improved for quite a while, the FPV drone scene has been hoping for better battery performance for a long time, and they have become slightly more powerful and energy dense, but not much.

    Stoked about the electric paramotor review!
    I have a few observations I would like to share.
    One reason for the extra feeling of torque is the design of the electric motor, the shaft and armature stay fixed to the frame and the outside housing rotates around the armature spinning the prop, unfortunately the housing is the heaviest part of any electric motor.
    The housing looks be approx. 8" to 9" in diameter, at that swing radius and mass results in considerable flywheel effect exaggerating the feeling of torque.
    Another factor is the power curve compared to a two cycle engine, the electric motor can develop full torque at virtually zero R.P.M. where as the two cycle probably develops it's full torque at approx. 4,500 - 5,000 R.P.M. the lag in the time it takes to "Spool Up" the engine has a ramping effect.
    This brings me to another point, prop design, the props design for two cycle power band are not ideal for the way electric motors operate.
    I believe there will be a lot of innovations in electric paramotor prop design, a smaller diameter multi-blade props with curved "Fan Blades" accomplishes two things, reducing the overall flywheel effect and a quieter prop.
    Because the electric motor can produce so much torque at a lower R.P.M. the tips of the prop blades will not need to go supersonic as most props do currently, because they are designed to extract maximum thrust at R.P.M. required by the two cycle power curve of todays paramotor.
    From my limited time of looking into this sport there has not been that much change in the hardware until the last few years with advancements in engine technology as in Electronic Fuel Injection, some innovative wing designs and now electric power and all that it could brings, it's a good to be me alive!

    I'm interested on the thrust numbers this unit puts out. I'm about 250 these days so I wonder how it works for the bigger pilots. Looks like the power is there but I wonder how it effects battery life when you add the extra pilot weight. I'm not impressed with the 3D printed frame parts as I haven't had much luck with printed stuff in the past.

    As an R/C aeroplane flier this really interests me. And I can tell you at the club electric is now 90% of aeroplanes, this setup looks good, but they can sacrifice some outright power for longer run times, also props for Electric can be Wildly different than even the one they are running there. My long range planes (FPV) running Li Ion last over 45mins and run AI. designed props.

    Shim the motor. That'll help compensate the torque. Thats what Macfly has, as well as offset arms

    Gas is archaic. Just think of all the maintenance on a gas car. Radiator antifreeze, oil oil filter, gas, gas tank gas filter, oil changes, tune ups, fuel injectors, belts, I'm sure there's a lot more, well that's thousands of dollars in savings and less things to worry about.

    The fabric of the glider or/and the lines must be electricaly conductive to harvest the voltage potential, and recharge in flight (100 volts per metre altitude above the earth), graphine may work.

    I would love to see a gas electric hybrid.
    That power on demand looked like it will have a lot of stunt flying potential once the electronics are bolted up to the right frame and stuff. I look forward to seeing a custom build for stunts . How about a new altitude record? O2 to fuel ratios won't be an issue.

    Neat. Can you test the Duration of Full Throttle before it cuts off? Some reports are in the 45-60 second range. I'm sure climate conditions change that for the ESC temperature but is a good to know. I'm considering using in in a twin pusher fixed wing configuration.

      I place my bet comment here I can return to in 3 years. I think that in 3 years there will be at least double capacity available than in this current SP-140 which is (200wh/kg). I think the main reason why I think we will see a bigger leap compared to the last 10 years is that since the 2020s there have been a lot more efforts put into r&d on new cells

    Thanks! Maybe some people now believe the things that we in Europe have been experiencing and knowing for over 10 years when flying with electric paramotors. The technology behind the electric motor for EPPG is around 15 years old and has not been changed since then. only many copies of the technology are now available worldwide.

    You could buy a second battery. And if you went on a longer trip. Somehow make a nice custom mount on the paramotor to hold that second pack. I do that with my ebikes. I backpack a second battery. Love riding NYC. I live in ct. And I also pack my charger. I do about 70 miles. Charge while I'm eating. But not really necessary. I like to get as many miles as I can. Most I did was 80 miles. I could go farther but got tired all of a sudden when I reached 80 miles.

    just going to say:
    electric motor speed is mostly dependent on voltage, so i am not surprised with Li-Ion batteries that the power drops off a lot at lower battery %. its open source, so can see some upgrades that might help already. for the love of all that is holy, i hope no one ever tries using li-po batteries. some LTO cells would be a bit heavier for sure, but 0 voltage sag at low charge would likely help. also, i don't know what sort of motor controller is being used either. always room for improvement there.

    I wonder what sort of distances/flight time you could get if this also had added regen, so when you power down or on idle the windmilling it recharges the battery a bit, or if the gains adding that tech are greater than the losses through added weight, as this definitely is a heavy setup!

    In a decade or so, this is just going to be the norm. 2-stroke engines will still be in use, sure, but for sport riding and short flight plans (which is by far the majority of flights) electric just makes so much more sense. And in that time, every improvement that goes into the rapidly-advancing EV industry is going to have trickle-down effects.

    When it comes to car and motorcycles s i prefer combustion motors and manual gears.... Just because they are fun to interact with and get to know their kinks and personalities.... but in almost all other cases I will prefer electric motors. So much more simple, precise and responsive, but also loads of power and torque... I never tried paragliding, but as soon as I saw this title I felt sure that you would love it....

    It's interesting seeing how the electric paramotor era is unfolding. The ideal electric paramotor would have solar charging, in my opinion. I hope one comes out soon, or at least that the SP140 would come with a battery that's capable of that. That would be totally epic. The only drawback would probably be that that technology can be expensive, but hey, maybe the cost will come down a bit here soon. ☺️

    As someone who has never flown a paraglider, I feel it might better if the mass that normally sits behind you could be balanced with some in front - i.e. moving the battery to sit in front of you.
