I like the subtle hints about what happens in the game through the whole opening. The best part is when it has Terra in that white hall running from the dark and then shows Ven in the dark hall running from the light. I like to interpret it that Terra walks in the light and is running from his own darkness that catches up to him in the game. Ven's interpretation is even better though. He walks in the dark because of his past and the fact that he doesn't remember it. Running from the light is him trying to escape the truth of his past and of what he is. It's beautiful.

I just now realized the FORESHADOWING that this intro has. the kingdom key in the ground. ventus is running away from fire (aka light) whilst terra is running away from shadows (aka darkness) the kingdom key and the way to dawn clash into ventus station of awakening, symbolizing ventus and terras connection to sora and riku. and ventus looks like a ball of light that looks like it's entering sora.
Also unlike Sora/Roxas, Ventus doesn't land on the Dive to the Heart, because his heart was smashed by light and darkness, he falls through the remains of the pannel, into Destiny Islands
Also, the way finders. They change into Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella. Snow White and Aurora for Ventus and Terra, because they end up being cursed to sleep. Ventus literally, and Terra in a suit of armor. Cinderella for Aqua because she meets Sora briefly before leaving, and Sora finds her keyblade in the first KH3 teaser, prompting him to go after her, much like the prince with the glass slipper.

Let me share my opinion with you: I think Aqua isn't so beautiful in the normal game, BUT in the secret ending of KH2 and the opening of BBS she looks so excellent. So the comment was related to the secret KH2 ending and the BBS opening.
This was one of the saddest openings. In the very beginning, it practically SHOWS you that no matter what you do, you can't stop what happens. Ven freezes and his heart goes to Sora. Terra falls to the darkness and can't leave. Aqua is trapped in the realm of darkness. No matter whose story you do, you can't stop it. It's so sad.
after beating the game and knowing the story the intro is really sad to watch as a friendship is torn apart fighting a losing battle against the darkness and failing with two succumbing to darkness and the other trapped in it
for the people saying xion won't be back I'm pretty sure seeing xion at the end of ddd is proof enough she'll be back yes she was artificially created but remember she has been shown to cry therefore a heart was forming so I'm almost positive she will have relevance in kh3 one way or another

Joshua Bradford That really doesn't make any sense. Isn't Roxas Sora and Sora is Roxas. They are two halves of the same person. The only way Roxas can be his own person is if he becomes whole again, and the only way for him to become whole is join his original self which is Sora. They aren't two different people but the same person, which is why Xion isn't coming back because she is basically another part of and exists inside Sora like she is suppose to.
Am I the only one hoping to see Vanitas on the roster for the True Organization XIII? He was the dark half of Ventus and since it's been heavily implied Ventus is on the roster for the Seven Lights it would be great to see a final showdown between the two, even more climactic than the Ventus Story final battle. Right up there with Lea vs Isa and Aqua vs Terra/Xehanort (who I'm hoping is also on the Dark roster).

I don't know if its time has taken its toll or if i was just used to the psp screen, but this looks so much worse than i remember, it feels very choppy, like it was recorded on a potato. BUT I KNOW IT ISN'T its actually very high quality I'm so confused

Is it bad that the only thing I want after this game is for Aqua to come back and be a playable character? I really loved her storyline.... She got stuff done and she (along with Ventus with the internal battle) destroyed that x-blade. Between the three characters, she was my favorite to play. Simple and Clean and Sanctuary are just too awesome for words. I wonder if we'll see a new song for KH3... I'm not sure if they can top those two though.

He later destroys the X Blade which contains both Ventus's and Vanitas's hearts, putting his heart to (Birth by) Sleep inside Sora. Hope that helped
1:43 really gets me, it just shows how much Aqua deeply cares for Terra (Ofcourse she cares for Ven just not in the same way), and combined with what happened in the secret episode it just.... it just breaks my heart :((
Spoilers- Me and my brother played this game and it was utterly heartbreaking. I played Aqua, my older brother Terra and my younger twin Ven. The end had us all really messed up. It felt like our family was being split apart and no matter what as the middle child I could do nothing to save them. And the secret endings, Aqua falling into the darkness after jetting Terra's possessed body out of the closing portal was just so emotional.
It better! If kh3 is going to be the closure of the Xehanort saga than they have to do it with a BOOM, and that means being better than bbs and bringing something new that will blow our minds away!

Why did this make me laugh so hard when I first watched it? Oh yeah...because it reused KH Chain of Memories music and I was laughing because I believed the music didn't fit this cinematic because I remembered the other opening with this one. I like this opening, don't get me wrong, it's the music that got laid on top that just cracked me up.

I know the plot and series ( expect the kh3 which I hadn't seen yet nor played ) but the thing that confused me in the end with the stain glass all those key blades must've been in the key blade grave yard but this takes place in the past and 97% of those key blades in the water are in all the games , so were theses key blades premade wayyyy ahead of time before their owners ? I know the two obvious ones from the first games that broke the glass , but am just ... Confused ! Am I making any sense here. ??? D;
Yeah, I understand what you mean. I think it's like, everyone has their signature keyblade(Like Sora's Kingdom Key) but like, those other ones were made from attaching different keychains to the keyblade. So like, maybe those keyblade wielders from long ago also went to the same worlds that Sora did and got they keychains from their worlds, thus enabling them to turn their keychains into the same ones that Sora did. And then they had the keyblade war. And that's why in some of the worlds, the people already know about the existence of other worlds. Maybe. Just guessing.
It is MUCH simpler than that. It's just an allusion to the other games. None of the weapons in the Keyblade Graveyard have keychains so no one is currently wielding it but it's more likely that they just used Keyblades everyone knows than making up completely new ones because it's easier. The weapons that landed in Ventus' Dive to the Heart are Sora's Kingdom Key and Riku's Soul Eater. They hint that Sora and Riku are involved because they land next to each other and, at the end of the opening, young Sora and Riku sitting next to each other on the beach.
KH3 isn't even finished yet but if you meant KH3D then you should DEFINITELY play it soon because of all the connections to KH3! (And also because it's a Kingdom Hearts game so it's awesome by default.)

Evan Coburn i am aware of rikus keyblade am like a die hard fan i hadnt seen or play kh3d yet but what really really confuses me cause i know riku and sora are young at this time but they aren't key blade wielders yet and not choosen unless when ventus rests in sora's heart would that make sora already a key weilder when he was young like in the first kh game when the voice said " you must awaken " or something similar would that mean ventus woke up inside of him making the kingdom key come to sora ( sorry if am not making any sense! This opening cinematic is so fucking masterfully done. It just feels so real and true. I love Square Enix and this is one of the reasons. Their cinematics are by far the best in the industry. Brings chills every time I watch one.

This is a triangle of friendship that I find really strong and is amazing how Aqua wanted to protect both terra and ventus, terra wanted to protect ventus and ventus was after terra. And the cutscence fit the song so well.
It's a prequel, and prequels are usually described as getting to know the lore of the story. It's like the narnia, it's best to read the magicians nephew after the three main narnia books so you can be like "oh, that's how that happened"
Depends. If you play it before, and play the rest of the games chronologically (KH1-Chain of Memories-358/2 days-KH2-DDD), then you could understand the story and many parts of it. However, if you play it later, you can still understand the story, any part that you remember that at first didn't make sense should make sense now, and the tearjerking will be more effective, as no matter how happy things seem in BBS you would know that something bad must happen for KH1 to happen.
The Kingdom Hearts series is very well known for its emphasis on back-stories and in-betweens. That's why for the past 7 years, we've been dying to get our hands on KH3. I mean, really. Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Coded, and Dream Drop Distance were wonderful games and they made some serious connections to the main games, KH 1 and 2. Birth By Sleep is no different. But the problem is that you don't want to play them all in chronological order, because it contains spoilers for the two main games that really take away from the overall emotions in those games. Playing the games as close as possible to the order in which they are released will give you a more complete experience without getting spoiled on what would happen if you were to go in chronological order.
This game is great, if you really look into the detail it explains a lot. Like how Sora, Rikku, and Kairi all came to wield Keyblades, and why it is that Roxas looks so much like Ventus. I can explain if you don't already know.
Trust me it makes a difference. Source: I love MGS, and the later games are known for using gameplay to make sad moments worse (Boss' death) and hopeful moments better (Microwave Room)
+Madison Mclin I actually think they were at the "In Between" shore (like the World that Never Was kind of place). It's like the same beach, but on the opposite side of that ocean thing. Aqua was at the "Darkness" shore.
My first ever KH game . . . Every time I watch the intro, or even play a portion of the game, I get a tear in my eye, because of how tragic things go, and we are witness to those happenings. Now I must only wait till the next game.

I think Aqua isn't so beautiful in the normal game, BUT in the secret ending of KH2 and the opening of BBS she looks so excellent.

Terra is so.... Dense? Guy didn't seem to figure out how much Aqua really cares for him.
This was one of the saddest openings. In the very beginning, it practically SHOWS you that no matter what you do, you can't stop what happens. Ven freezes and his heart goes to Sora. Terra falls to the darkness and can't leave. Aqua is trapped in the realm of darkness. No matter whose story you do, you can't stop it. It's so sad.

The only way Roxas can be his own person is if he becomes whole again, and the only way for him to become whole is join his original self which is Sora. They aren't two different people but the same person, which is why Xion isn't coming back because she is basically another part of and exists inside Sora like she is suppose to.

He was the dark half of Ventus and since it's been heavily implied Ventus is on the roster for the Seven Lights it would be great to see a final showdown between the two, even more climactic than the Ventus Story final battle. Right up there with Lea vs Isa and Aqua vs Terra/Xehanort (who I'm hoping is also on the Dark roster).

Is it bad that the only thing I want after this game is for Aqua to come back and be a playable character? I really loved her storyline.... She got stuff done and she (along with Ventus with the internal battle) destroyed that x-blade. Between the three characters, she was my favorite to play.

Pierce Singletary Ok long story short: (Spoilers) (duh) Ventus heart was nearly destroyed when Xehonort extracted Vanitas from Ventus, Sora's heart mended Ventus's heart, and Xehonort trained Vanitas and gave Ventus to Eraqus.. He later destroys the X Blade which contains both Ventus's and Vanitas's hearts, putting his heart to (Birth by) Sleep inside Sora. Hope that helped

Me and my brother played this game and it was utterly heartbreaking.
I played Aqua, my older brother Terra and my younger twin Ven.
The end had us all really messed up. It felt like our family was being split apart and no matter what as the middle child I could do nothing to save them. And the secret endings, Aqua falling into the darkness after jetting Terra's possessed body out of the closing portal was just so emotional.
Still my favorite opening to a kingdom hearts game so far. I hope the Kingdom Hearts 3 opening beats this one.
It better! If kh3 is going to be the closure of the Xehanort saga than they have to do it with a BOOM, and that means being better than bbs and bringing something new that will blow our minds away!

Everything about this intro is beautiful. I am so speechless. And watching it in HD makes it even better.
Why did this make me laugh so hard when I first watched it? Oh yeah...because it reused KH Chain of Memories music and I was laughing because I believed the music didn't fit this cinematic because I remembered the other opening with this one. I like this opening, don't get me wrong, it's the music that got laid on top that just cracked me up.

I love kingdom hearts ! I know the plot and series ( expect the kh3 which I hadn't seen yet nor played ) but the thing that confused me in the end with the stain glass all those key blades must've been in the key blade grave yard but this takes place in the past and 97% of those key blades in the water are in all the games , so were theses key blades premade wayyyy ahead of time before their owners ? I know the two obvious ones from the first games that broke the glass , but am just ... Confused ! Am I making any sense here. ??? D;
Yeah, I understand what you mean. I think it's like, everyone has their signature keyblade(Like Sora's Kingdom Key) but like, those other ones were made from attaching different keychains to the keyblade. So like, maybe those keyblade wielders from long ago also went to the same worlds that Sora did and got they keychains from their worlds, thus enabling them to turn their keychains into the same ones that Sora did. And then they had the keyblade war. And that's why in some of the worlds, the people already know about the existence of other worlds. Maybe. Just guessing.
It is MUCH simpler than that. It's just an allusion to the other games. None of the weapons in the Keyblade Graveyard have keychains so no one is currently wielding it but it's more likely that they just used Keyblades everyone knows than making up completely new ones because it's easier.
The weapons that landed in Ventus' Dive to the Heart are Sora's Kingdom Key and Riku's Soul Eater. They hint that Sora and Riku are involved because they land next to each other and, at the end of the opening, young Sora and Riku sitting next to each other on the beach.
KH3 isn't even finished yet but if you meant KH3D then you should DEFINITELY play it soon because of all the connections to KH3! (And also because it's a Kingdom Hearts game so it's awesome by default.)

Evan Coburn i am aware of rikus keyblade am like a die hard fan i hadnt seen or play kh3d yet but what really really confuses me cause i know riku and sora are young at this time but they aren't key blade wielders yet and not choosen unless when ventus rests in sora's heart would that make sora already a key weilder when he was young like in the first kh game when the voice said " you must awaken " or something similar would that mean ventus woke up inside of him making the kingdom key come to sora ( sorry if am not making any sense! D: ) but back to as i was saying about the soul eater and kingdom key breaking ventus dive glass ( thingy.... gahhh ) so would that mean a previous owner made these keyblades before they were wielded by riku and sora and other key blade weilders in the game sequels . This is a triangle of friendship that I find really strong and is amazing how Aqua wanted to protect both terra and ventus, terra wanted to protect ventus and ventus was after terra. And the cutscence fit the song so well.

It's a prequel, and prequels are usually described as getting to know the lore of the story. It's like the narnia, it's best to read the magicians nephew after the three main narnia books so you can be like "oh, that's how that happened"
Depends. If you play it before, and play the rest of the games chronologically (KH1-Chain of Memories-358/2 days-KH2-DDD), then you could understand the story and many parts of it. However, if you play it later, you can still understand the story, any part that you remember that at first didn't make sense should make sense now, and the tearjerking will be more effective, as no matter how happy things seem in BBS you would know that something bad must happen for KH1 to happen.
The Kingdom Hearts series is very well known for its emphasis on back-stories and in-betweens. That's why for the past 7 years, we've been dying to get our hands on KH3. I mean, really. Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Coded, and Dream Drop Distance were wonderful games and they made some serious connections to the main games, KH 1 and 2. Birth By Sleep is no different. But the problem is that you don't want to play them all in chronological order, because it contains spoilers for the two main games that really take away from the overall emotions in those games. Playing the games as close as possible to the order in which they are released will give you a more complete experience without getting spoiled on what would happen if you were to go in chronological order.

My first ever KH game . . . Every time I watch the intro, or even play a portion of the game, I get a tear in my eye, because of how tragic things go, and we are witness to those happenings. Now I must only wait till the next game.
