I was floored when this aired on TV back in 2010. It was still pretty unusual to see game trailers on TV back then, and seeing something this long AND live action just hit differently. I remember even my mother, who is not into games at all, perked up when she saw it the first time. The trailer does a good job not really saying what it is for, until the very end. From everyone I've talked to about Reach, most agree that Reach is by far the grittiest of the Halo games. The game feels more alive and realistic that the earlier titles, and everything in the game looks used and abused - like real military gear would look during a long war. Paint coming off, bullet marks, dents - all of it. Compare this to the pristine look of stuff in the other Halo games and there is no contest. You can tell that Reach was pushing what the Xbox 360 could do, graphically. There is a lot of detail on objects and the textures look pretty good for a 2010-game. In certain areas the game would even get frame drops to the low 20's in the campaign, probably because of the low amount of VRAM available to the 360. I know Halo 4 uses the same engine, but that game has in my opinion less detail on objects and everything looks extremely clean - but performs better (on original hardware that is).
@@adarkwind4712 Absolutely true, however I was talking more about the UNSC gear. Reach had the best looking UNSC equipment - it looked like it had actually been used. In especially the later games every piece of kit looks brand new.
I love the gritty look Reach has. It matches the feel of the game and make it a lot more realistic. I wish they kept that style instead of the clean plastic look we see sometimes. I am surprised to hear how low the frames would drop, its been forever since I played it on the 360 so much less smooth feel than what I am used to now I am sure
Man… what you said about Thom and Kat having a conversation from just looking at each other, I honestly couldn’t have put that better myself 🥹. They both knew what had to be done ✊
Where I live at that time, I live in Singapore, the internet was not good , no multiplayer. But I remember rushing to get to a game store,the night it got released ,to buy the game with all my money I had saved at that time. I was 17 to 18. I'm 32 now. Reach has been the most memorable game after all these years. I had played it every day after school. Glad to see people still discovering it.
Hearing Rob talk about his friend getting emotional and even crying at video games made me think about Telltale’s The Walking Dead. It’s the one game that has and still gets me emotional to this day and I’d love to see him play the first season. It’s also an easy game for someone like him to pick up as it doesn’t require any specific skills to play outside of an having a good attention span and reading comprehension which he definitely has.

Tbf looking cleaner was a design choice as the game is set on a Forunner installation that's meant to be one of the best and houses the didact.

Something goofy, the original Noble Six wasn't Tom or Thomas, it was Thom, just Thom.
Yeah, I believe the h in Thom is silent, so I pronounced it the same way as Tom
